HL Topic of the Week 5/12 to 5/18 It's National Women's Health Week!

The 5th Annual Woman Challenge began yesterday, as part of National Women's Health Week.     I signed up, and thought you all might be interested in checking it out as well!

    What is the WOMAN Challenge?

This May, thousands of women across the country will embark on an eight-week physical activity challenge for better health. They will be part of the WOMAN Challenge-that is, Women and girls Out Moving Across the Nation. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health is coordinating the WOMAN Challenge to kick off the ninth annual National Women's Health Week (May 11-17, 2008). This free eight week challenge encourages women and girls to walk 10,000 steps or get 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day. The WOMAN Challenge begins on Mother's Day, May 11, and ends on July 5, 2008.

How can I register to participate?

Participants are able to register online at www.womenshealth.gov/woman.

Participants will receive a tracking log (while supplies last) to record their progress throughout the eight weeks. They will also receive weekly motivational e-mails and health tips to help them reach their goals. Women can choose to travel one of six different "virtual" routes across America.

For information about the WOMAN Challenge and National Women's Health Week, please visit the National Women's Health Week Web site at www.womenshealth.gov/woman or call (800)-994-9662 or TTY: (888) 220-5446.

National Women's Health Week empowers women across the country to get healthy by taking action. The nationwide initiative, coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health (OWH), encourages women to make their health a top priority and take simple steps for a longer, healthier and happier life. During the week, families, communities, businesses, government, health organizations and other groups work together to educate women about steps they can take to improve their physical and mental health and prevent disease, like:

    • Engaging in physical activity most days of the week
    • Making healthy food choices
    • Visiting a healthcare provider to receive regular check-ups and preventive screenings
    • Avoiding risky behaviors, like smoking and not wearing a seatbelt

Waving good morning to all   :)    Hope everyone had a nice weekend!    Jake got up right behind me today, so have to make this short and I'll be back later.   I've got to get him off to school, hit the gym, library and grocery store, and I'm not quite sure how I'll pull that all off in the time I have!

Be sure to check out Jen's wedding pictures thread  :)    Sure looks like they had a wonderful day and a fun time!

    Back in a bit!

Good morning. Will check it out. Don't know what is going on today. May take the motor home to have the steps fixed and the air conditioner looked at. It started "freezing up" on the way back the other day.

    Hi to everyone

    Morning!

I hope eveyone had a nice weekend. And a good Mother's Day!

We ended up with storms again, friday & sunday. Had some pretty bad tornadoes & hail in our area last night, luckily for us it was all just a few miles north of our house. We got the rain & wind, but no tonadoes or hail. Apparently some of the hail was reported to be 2 inches in diameter & larger, that's some big hail!  Overall it was a nice weekend though - got a lot of little things crossed off our to-do list, I got some reading done, and just kind of relaxed the rest of the time.

Jolene - hope you get everything done this morning. How have you felt being back at the gym?

Dusta - hope you can get the motor home fixed. Where are you off to next?

    Jet - Morning!

the pics of Jen's wedding were great. I'm so glad she had time to post them for us. I thought of her saturday, wondered how the day was going.

going to be a bit busy here today, but hopefully it will make the day go by faster :-) Tonight dh & I go for our maternity ward tour.  I packed my hospital bag over the weekend. Also did a bag for Samantha ~ her outfit to come home in, a few diapers, onsies, etc. I put a receiving blanket in there - the doctor (and our vet) told us to have something that smells like the baby & bring it home for the cats to sniff. DH will do that when he goes back & forth to the house. Apparently it helps the cats get used to her scent so they won't be as freaked out when she gets home. Don't know if it will really work or not, but it's worth a try.

hope everyone has a great day!!!

it sure is quiet around here today ~ hope everyone is having a good day.

lunch today was potato salad, whole wheat crackers and a yogurt. Plus my always-present glass of water :-)  someone brought in a really good snack bread, trying to figure out who so I can get the recipe. I had a slice after my lunch & it was excellent! Very moist & a lot of flavor. Which means it's probably loaded with calories LOL!!!

Rode the bike for an hour, gorgeous here today and very little wind.

Dawn I know how we all say don't listen to people when they tell you things to do with the baby. I wanted to tell you this about my nephew and his wife. When they had their first baby decide she wasn't go to eat any sweets when she started eating other things. When she finally came in contact with sweets she went wild, she has a weight problem now. Then they had the second one and they gave her limited amounts and she did much better. Just a thought. I know you eat healthy and you are going to do the same with your baby.

There is a nice lady here today cleaning the house. This is the first time she has been here. I ask her if she had a nice Mother's day and she said she has 4 boys.

Just checking in - wanted to wish all you wonderful ladies a Happy Mother's Day.

It is nice here today - sunny and 60.  Yesterday was cold and rainy and we had terrible winds.  Glad to hear you didn't have any problems Dawn, I was thinking of you.

    Waving to all!!

Dusta - glad you were able to get out on the bike. Did you have any of the storms?  there are some people I listen to, those of you on here are among them :-)  I know different things work for different people, but it's nice to have an idea or a piece of advice I can fall back on. Lately I haven't worried too much about what I eat, although I should. I'm probably eating more junk than normal, just can't seem to fil up. I am constantly hungry. But I try really hard to stick with "everything in moderation". I don't keep a lot of junk in the house, if I really need it I have to want it bad enough to go get it LOL!!! That has helped some, but I still find myself heading to Wendy's for a frosty, or the grocery store for reese's p.b. cups Big Smile

4 boys?!?!?!?!?!??!  that woman has my sympathy & admiration LOL!!!

Hello Dawn, Michele, Jolene, and TXcookie!! :)

I am soooo glad the weekend is over!! LOL!! I think I wore myself out, but we had fun....both meals went over good, but the bad thing is I have a lot of leftovers!!! I am going to get a tray together to send with dh tomorrow to work.....the guys just love me when i do that! LOL!

Tonight I am suppossed to go to my MIL for supper.....my BIL and SIL are coming down, so I probably won't be eating very well tonight... :(

I havn't been able to excersise for a month because of having the flu earlier and then my 'personal physical problems' I was having for 2 weeks!!! ARGHHH!!!! SO tonight HOPEFULLY we will get back to the routine......the bad thing is I will have to start over again, since I havn't done anything for while....

Hope that everyone had a good weekend!

    Good Morning.

I hope all the moms had a great day yesterday.  I had the best one ever.  My oldest dd took all 4 kids to have a professional portrait taken of all of them.  I knew she took them all "shopping", but I  was so surprised.  She even had them all color cooridinated and had did the two little ones hair.  It is so good.  I was wondering what was taking so long the day went "shopping".  I am surprised our three year old did not spill the beans.  I know a lot went into that effort.  SO SWEET.

Back to the office today and I am not in the mood. LOL!!! I want to go home and read a cooking magazine in PJs.  Oh well.  At least I only work for DH so I cut out early.

Hi to Jolene, Michele, Dawn and Dusta.  Hope everyone has a great day.

Re: HL Topic of the Week 5/12 to 5/18 It's National Women's Health Week!

Good afternoon!  I hit the ground running this morning and haven't stopped since.   Jake got up early but didn't want to do the morning school routine.  I managed to pack up my gym stuff and library bag and get half my shopping list done.   Dropped him off, 30 mins on the treadmill, library, come home shower, unload dw, run laundry, go back out pick up Jake, bring him to the store, feed everyone, get Tim packed up and off to work, more laundry!     Jake is napping, but will have to get him up soon or else he won't go to bed tonight.

Dusta, thank you for the card  :)   That was very sweet of you.   Glad that you got out for a nice ride, it's windy and chilly here today, was glad to be walking inside!    I signed up for the East Coast route, and I'm already worried about making my 5 days.   This week I can only do 2 at the gym, so I'll have to get 30 mins in 3 other days some other way.

{{Michelle}}   Good to see you.   Sorry about the icky weather, seems like spring isn't happening many places this year!

Hi Dawn   :)   While I wouldn't go completely crazy, eating some not so good for you things isn't going to kill you this late in the game.      Yep, I hated the "bottomless" pit phase.      The gym has been nice, April I'd been getting there 3 days a week, but since Jake's vacation I've only been doing 2.

Jet, glad to hear your meals went well!   :)   The guys at Tim's work love me for just that reason, I'm always sending in leftovers.   Mostly desserts, but once in a while more than that   :)     Sorry that you've been unable to exercise    :(     I haven't talked with my SIL in a while, I know that she gave up her nutritionist due to costs and she'd been doing so well controlling her symptoms.   Have fun tonight!

Betsy, that's wonderful of your DD and you sure deserve it   :)    LOL about not being in the mood for the office.     My parents had a doll store when I was in college, my sister and I both worked there weekends and summers.    One day I called my dad's phone from my mom's line and said I was calling in sick.     My dad's response was "Get your @ss out of bed and go to work before I come up with a bucket of water"     :)    Totally different ballgame when it's family!

I love the idea of the picture, I know you were surprised. I don't know how the 3 year old kept the secret. My brothers and I did that for our Mother's birthday one year. I was worried that I could talk them into it and said if I had to cry to get them to do it I would, but they all agreed.

Jen and Pammie are gone, having fun, and Muril is busy with her Mom, it is lonely here!
