Re: HL Topic of the Week 5/12 to 5/18 It's National Women's Health Week!

Good morning!   Sun is shining, and they are finally back to finish paving our street   :)   Hopefully they will be done early so Jake and I can get outside today, supposed to be in the mid 60's and sunny.     My sister's surgery got moved to Thursday, so I will visit my parents tomorrow instead of today.

Need to get in my 30 mins of activity for the challenge today.   I wish Tim would get the bikes tuned up and usable, they've sat there for 2 summers now.     There's a state park out by the beach that is a great place to ride, there are even lots of paved trails so Jake can practice.

Dusta, yep, it's slow, I know Kathy didn't do posts in the summer for that reason too.   I really like the weekly format and keeping the post going year round though, even if the posts go way down a few times a year.      :)

Need to figure out what's for lunch, I didn't go to the store with a plan in place and not sure what I came home with.     :)

     Good Morning Everyone  Coffee

Going to be another nice day in NC - we've been in the low 70's without humidity. Very rare for this time of year!  We've had the doors & windows open at night, which I love. My allergies are protesting but it's worth it :-)

Last night we had our maternity ward tour - I was pretty impressed~! Even dh commented on their security in the nursery & maternity ward (which, as ya'll know, he's paranoid over that kind of thing). Out of 8 couples, we were the only "first timers".  They have internet in every room so ya'll will be getting plenty of pics :-)

I'm getting really, really excited. I thought I'd panic a bit, but I"m not. Right now at least LOL!!!

I think it's easier for everyone to have one post per week. Plus if posting slows down, we don't necessarily miss a subject if we can get on here at least once a week.

Jolene - I've got to get my weekly menu together also. Don' t feel all that inspired at the moment. I'm hoping it will just come to me as the day progresses LOL!!!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning. A lot of thunder and lightning right now and a little rain, suppose to move out though.

Dawn when my sil had baby they gave them a pass word that the nurse had to tell them before they could take the baby. It is sad that it is like this. When my children were little we would go to the store and they would look at toys while I looked at other things and you didn't have to worry about them. By the time my grands came along I didn't let them out of my sight.

Jolene hope you and Jake get to play outside and have fun. I use to get dh to do things by getting stuff out and I would start "working" on it. I know all men aren't the same but he couldn't stand to see me mess it up. :)

Re: HL Topic of the Week 5/12 to 5/18 It's National Women's Health Week!

Sigh, I'm a little disappointed in myself.   Grocery prices are so high, and the amount of food I had to toss is a little disheartening.      Tim has been much better about eating leftovers, but it seems like the produce I buy has a VERY short lifespan.     We ate out a LOT last week...

Dawn, LOL about DH.   I promise this is one of the most exciting and terrifying times of your life  :)      I think knowing you'll have a csect helps that too.   I did the virtual tour of the hospital, since I found out at the last minute that the hospital I wanted to deliver at didn't have an NICU so I had to go to the one across town.    And I had less than 24 hrs notice that I was having a csect, so I didn't have that much time to panic!     :)

Jake is occupied with a letter workbook, so I'm going to sit with my food inventory and plan some meals!

Here's my winner from last week, I never got around to posting it.  If you've got access to local berries this would be even better!

Rec & Review: Blackberry Limeade~ Cooking Light~ Easy and delicious!

    posted 5/13/2008

Morning everyone!   Blackberries have been 'reasonable' the last few weeks, and I had bought a bunch intending to make smoothies.    This recipe caught my eye instead.   It came together very quickly and easily, and I will definitely make it again.    I think it would also be great frozen in popsicle molds or made with carbonated water!   Other reviewers on the CL site said the sugar can definitely be cut back to 3/4c and also the addition of vodka would make it a great adult beverage.

                                Blackberry Limeade

Amount  Measure       Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    --------  ------------  --------------------------------
      6               cups  water -- divided
      3               cups  fresh blackberries
      1                cup  sugar
2/3           cup  fresh lime juice (about 4 limes)
      8               thin  lime slices
                            Fresh blackberries (optional)

Place 1 cup water and 3 cups blackberries in a blender; process until smooth. Press blackberry puree through a sieve into a large pitcher; discard seeds. Add remaining 5 cups water, sugar, and juice to pitcher; stir until sugar dissolves. Place 1 lime slice and a few blackberries, if desired, into each of 8 glasses; pour about 1 cup limeade over each serving.

It's sad, isn't it?   MIL gives me such a hard time because I still make Jake ride in a cart at the grocery and don't let him play in the yard by himself.    It's fenced in, but I can't see the yard from the house and someone could take him in an instant.

Our hospital had the coded bracelets, and they were checked about 200x in the 4 days I was there.   If you got too close to the elevators with the baby, and alarm would sound.    Very high tech.

That's a great idea, I'll go down to his tool closet and find the WD40 and the airpump and see what he does   :)

    Good morning everyone!

Well back to babysitting today......I have only a couple more weeks left and then the grandmother will be taking care of them for the summer and then they will be in school full time next year....

I have to run today and get groceries......

Dawn its hard to believe that your Samantha will be here soon!!! :) Glad your maternity ward tour went well! Its sad to here about all the stealing, ect......that happens sometimes...we live in a small town, so we don't have hardly any kind of security at our hospitals close....

Hope Jen is having a good time!! :)

    Waving to everyone!

Re: HL Topic of the Week 5/12 to 5/18 It's National Women's Health Week!

I remember my  mom would drop us off at K-mart, then go down the road to the grocery store. We'd shop for her kmart items and she'd come back & pick us up. Never thought twice about it. When we were older, we'd split up at the mall - decide a time & place to check in w/ each other. Again, didn't think twice about wondering around a huge mall in a city. Probably a combination of being naive & how times were then :-)

A few of the things stuck out for me at the hospital (good things). One, we all get wrist bracelets w/ matching info & the nurse checks both of us when she hands us baby; Two, baby gets an ankle bracelet w/ a gps chip in it. They know where she is at all times. If she's taken out of the maternity ward, it sends an alert to the monitor people. Three, ANY time baby is moved out of the nursery or our room, she is to be in a bassinett (it has wheels and she is pushed in that). If they see a baby in the hall & she's not in a bassinett but being carried, they automatically seize her from whoever is carrying her. They are very strict with this and I agree with it 100%. It's a great, and easy, way to see that something is "wrong". A baby being carried is much easier to walk away with than one in a bassinett.

That is great security. I don't know what they have in my area now. My niece is 16 so hopefully they have better security.

Muril's Mom is having eye surgery today? Right?

Re: HL Topic of the Week 5/12 to 5/18 It's National Women's Health Week!

Jeesh, been at it an hour and not making much progress.    So far I've nailed down that lunch today will be breaded, baked chicken tenders, corn on the cob and garlicy green beans.    Dessert will be the Brownie Dalmation Pops, I think Jake will get a kick out of dipping them and adding the spots.       I've got a bunch of meal ideas, but it seems like if I buy stuff to grill, it rains all week and if I buy stuff to make in the house it's hot and sunny!    Tonight will throw a pork roast and a bottle of Jack Daniels BBQ sauce in the crockpot for Tim's dinner, and he can have leftovers tomorrow night in his lunch at work.     Why is this so difficult?   I used to plan 4 weeks of meals at a time and shop for $125 a month, for goodness sake!

Waving to Jet!   Hope you have fun with the kids today   :)    Jake is so antsy, but until the paving trucks go I can't go out, it is so loud.

Happy Tuesday Healthy Ones!  Big Smile

Sorry I have been MIA lately. I am busy with Mom and also went to Miss Nancy's yesterday while Mom was at my sisters.

Well, Mom did wonderful today and the first eye is finished - Yeah. But,now she knows that she has to have an IV and be hooked up to a heart moniter so is dreading the second one already but ...good news although her vision is still somewhat blurry in the right eye(normal for right after surgery) she can already tell a diffference in the brightness of colors compared to the dullness from the one that still has cateracts.  Bet she will want the second surgery after all. :)

Hi Jolene(thanks for the awesome topic), Dusta(thanks for the email, you are a sweetie), Dawn(boy time is ticking on for Baby Samantha, can't wait!), Jet, Michele,Betsy, and all other Healthy Ones...hope I didn't miss anyone.

    Off to finish supper!

    Hugs,

Went to WM to get a couple of things, and managed to stick with that, unusual. Started riding the bike and about 40 minutes in it started raining and had to come back. At 4:30 I finished riding, got in 90 minutes. Did something silly, fell asleep on the couch and slept 2 hours! Silly me.

When I came back Mel was asleep in the chair, woke up and said it is cold in here. Not!!!!

    Good morning.

Got up at 4 and could not go back to sleep. Most of the time I have been sleeping until 5:30 or 6, 4 makes for a long day.

It started raining, hard around 7 last night and by 10 it had rained 3.50 inches. I looked out and the street was standing in water, so I went to look and the side walk was also covered, still raining now but not hard. I think it is suppose to rain all day, no bike ride for me.

Hi Jolene, Dawn, Jet and anyone else.
