OT: Dirty Dishwasher - ugh!

How can I clean the bottom of my dishwasher -there is build up on the bottom and water is not emptying well.

 Jet Dry has a product out for that very problem.

Although I haven't tried it, a package of lemon KoolAid is supposed to clean it.  Only lemon, though.

TANG powdered drink. I swear this is a great product to use to keep your dishwasher spotless. Just put some of the powder in the same place you put your powdered dishwashing detergent and then let it go through the entire cycle. It works like a charm.

Once on a program they were asking a Plumber this exact question.

He said CLR works great. And he said when you do this place all your silver ware and the sink plugs into the dishwasher before you run the cycle and they come out looking like they have all been polished.

 

I have never tried this tip but plan to.

Lemme Shine works the best & it's not toxic.  You can find it at Walmart with the dish soap.

I had the same exact problem. So first I ran vinegar through it in the rinse cycle thing. That helped but then I noticed the gunk at the bottom and scrubbed that with baking soda and vinegar. Then I used ran it empty with soda in the powder soap cup and vinegar in the rinse cycle thing. I would like to try some of these other ideas though too. After I did all this I changed to a better brand of dish soap and rinse aid. Glasses, dishes and silverware look great.

I swear by Tang!!! It is the only thing I will use. I AM a plumber's wife and that is all I will use on mine!!! A container last forever too. It will make your dishwasher sparkle.

I put 1/4 cup vinegar in the dishwasher when the rinse cycle starts.  Works great, and it's cheap!

 

Bayleecat---I never tried Tang.  How much do you use, and do you use it every time you run the dishwasher?

My neighbor is an appliance salesman/repairman.  He said the reason this happens is because we use way too much detergent. He said it is so concentrated, all we need is LESS THAN 1 Tablespoon of detergent, a light 1 TB!   And don't put it in twice, (I have two spots to put the detergent in, one covered, one not covered)  Since I have cut way back on my detergent, it lasts  much longer of course, and I haven't had the gunk problem at all.   Dishes are just as clean as they were before too. 

I had a terrible problem also....The inside of my dishwasher, bottom and sides were becoming a  ugly brown color and I tried everything I could use, but nothing helped.  I was told by a plumber to go to the drugstore and purchase  (Oxalic Acid).  Use only a teaspoon, can use up to 2 teaspoons, and let it run the cycle.  You won't believe how surprised I was when I opened the dishwasher,  It was like new.  It is poisen, so you have to use caution where it is kept.
