    Canadian Corner 13/05/08

    Good Morning CC Friends

Looks like area's may have go frost - might have to scrape the car this morning. Off to have the car service early this morning.

Katie - hope Dave did not totally forget the BD and he cooked you dinner.  Or did he eat the leftovers and you BBQ yourself something yummy. LOL

YF-have you heard yet about your biospy?  know they said a week, but in this day and age they have to be faster than that.

China sure had  terrible earthquake killing so many people, imagine their Gov't will get control of that quickly with the Olympics being there in 100 days. I feel sorry for the people in Burma - their regime not letting food aid etc. in. There is something wrong with heads of gov't  in some of these places.

Long weekend does not look great for the first season of campers around here. Hope the rest of you Char, Pat and others that are camping have better weather.

Marilyn - those aspargus will be yummy next year - can't wait till our local ones hit the stores. Have to feast on them because its such a short season.

    Have a good day

Go this recipe off the board and its yum-made it yesterday - used frozen rhubarb. I did not use the lattice top

    Rhubarb Custard Pie
    pastry for a two-crust pie
    4 c sliced rhubarb
2 extra large eggs or 3 medium, lightly beaten
    2 T milk
    1 1/4 cup sugar
    3 T flour
    1/2 t nutmeg-use freshly grated, if possible
    400/350 oven.
Put one round of dough into 9" pie plate. Place sliced rhubarb in unbaked pie shell.
In a bowl beat the eggs and add milk. In a separate bowl, mix together sugar, flour and nutmeg. Add these ingredients to egg mixture and stir until blended. Pour this over the rhubarb in the pie shell.
Use other piece of dough for lattice top. Using pizza cutter or knife, slice round into strips(10-12 pieces). Put longest pieces in middle on two sides(not opposite), remaining pieces to either side of the longest pieces. Now, start weaving the pieces over the pie. Pinch edges.

Bake for 15 minutes at 400, then lower oven to 350 and bake for 20 to 30 minutes, or until crust is browned and pie is bubbly. Cool pie before cutting.

     Good morning CC friends,

Its still grey and damp in my neck of the woods.  Yay!! We,ve got some moisture, but there's lots of room for more.  Keep it coming.

Crea: last year when we camped the May long weekend, it was plain nasty weather.  I curled up under the covers and literally slept for 4 hours in the afternoon.  This for someone who rarely naps.  The break and the chance to stock up on sleep is a good thing.  I have too many jobbies here to relax and sleep at home so getting away is good .  Yucky weather is OK in my book.  It would be different, if I was camping with young kids.

    Enjoy this day.  BBL

Pat - I think camping for you will be a good thing - you won;t be able to get your hands on anything to do and that is what you need - relax and sleep under the covers. LOL

    Good Morning Crea and Friends,

A cool morning and foggy out, just lift this morning. I have to go to Chatham today, back to work.

We have a few posters missing Boo have been MIA for quite a long time, Emc hasn't posted, Hauke, Joan, Heather and Beesmom but we know she is very busy in the greenhouse.

What a devastation in China, many many dead and still finding survivors. Also the tornado that hit the US, I didn't know that Oklahoma would ever be hit with a tornado...what do I know about Tornadoes. In Burma, what is wrong with their government not letting in relief for those people.  They are starving, need medical help...sheeeeeesh.

What a cool month of May, we had to turn the furnance on again till the house warms up and shut it off.

I haven't heard anything yet Crea, I have quite the bruise.  Should hear something by the end of the week.

Have they started your balconey yet? I suppose they didn't work yesterday due to the rain.

Have you heard the noise coming from the other apartments?

    BRB, need my coffee.

YF- I think Eija was going away for a wedding.

I'm really worried about Boo - it has been forever since we have heard from her.

Beesmom will be in the thick of things at the greenhouse.

Crea, I have been thinking about her too, hope she is ok. Maybe I'll email her again, we worry when we don't hear from our posters.

The last we heard from her was she was doing a puzzle and she had cut her finger. Since then...nothing.

Katie, what is the house like now that your DD and family is gone?  How are they doing on their own for the first time?

What a gabby group for so early in the morning! MY crown is in a whirl!

Nice here this morning, it's a very pleasant 9 so far. We are expecting rain by about noon, so have to get our walking done early. Yesterday we walked a little more than 3 miles.

The forecast says rain on Friday. Swell. Not looking forward to a graveside service for MIL in the rain. I expect that the funeral director will put up a canopy, and there won't be many of us, so maybe we'll all be able to fit under it. One hopes.

Hope those MIAs are all okay. Maybe just busy in the spring? I don't guess we're going to have much of a spring here. We'll probably just slam into summer; it's not unheard of here.

Off to get a coffee. BBL

     Music

    Coffee Good Morning ALL!!

What a GLORIOUS morning it is here! I'll be looking for my gardening gloves and getting my hands dirty in the balcony pots today!

WOW, are we ever all up and at it, early! We'll be changing our names to the Early Birds! I dunno about the diet though...worms?....nah...CCers is just fine.

    HUGS for Katie!

I've had the news on, and wow, I'm busy for a few days, turn on the nes, and find that the world was indeed spinning while I've been otherwise occupied! Tornadoes and earthquakes and measles and ....well, lots. Burma/Myanmar....sigh... the stalled relief efforts are the result of dictatorships. It's something we just cannot understand.

I'm going to go forage for coffee, and get my head around what I'll do with the balcony pots...prepare them first, I guess. I usually just pull out all the old dead stuff, and mix as many pots of soil I can mange to into one of those big restaurant sized plastic buckets, so the soil from the flowers and the herbs and veggies from last year will blend, then fill the pots back up again, and let the soil settle for a day or two. I think that's what I'll do with it all today....breakfast, VB, breakfast...focus, girl!

    Have a good one, all!!

Good morning everyone. Boy, did it get cold here last night, the bird bath is froze solid. I wonder what it is going to do to the trees and perennials who are just starting to bud out and come through the ground. This is such a strange spring.

Good for you Pat, getting away for a few days. They say the weather is supposed to be warmer by the weekend. I only wish that we had a camper or cabin to go away to for a break.

I have to bake buns this morning, also getting our hair cut this afternoon and then I guess to the centre for some card games. Keisha goes with the school today into the city for swim lessons so I won't have her for lunch.

Morning All!  Looks to be blue sky and sunny here.  Had my first mammogram yesterday.  Not nearly as bad as I had feared in my mind.  DH and I may be on the mend finally from the lovely cold he brought home with him from Virginia the other weekend.  Spent this past weekend barky coughing, blowing our noses, slurping Buckley's and for me...no voice from Friday am till this morning.  It's really true...It tastes nasty but it works!  Hope DD doesn't catch it before wisdom teeth out on Friday or they may postpone surgery.  Need some more perrenials out front so may go off to the nursery today to see what's there.  Have a good day everyone.
