    HC 5/15/08

What a day I had yesterday. It was turn off day and very hectic, my left knee hurt and I was limping by the end of the day, plus at WW I gained 4 tenths of a lb, even after tracking (most days but not every day) so it was a bad day on many levels. I came home, ate chocolate, drank a Mike's Hard Lemonade and fell asleep at 8:15. Such is life.

So today is a new day and a new start. I found out anyone who has points under 20 is supposed to get 20, no one told me that before. So instead of 17 I get 20. The leader seems to feel that was the problem. We'll see next week.

Looks like a nice day and pretty good weekend here. I am determined to use my gift cards and coupons up so I'll work on that. I have a dr appt Saturday so I'll be out and about anyway.

I hope everyone is doing ok. Have a good day, Sue

    Re: HC 5/15/08

Good morning, Sue and everyone to come later.

Sue, what a day you had, yesterday.  Okay, as you said, today is the beginning of a new day so forget about yesterday and the little bit of self indulgence.  I hope today will be much better for you at work and in everything else too.   I'm glad you get 20 points.  Having only 17 had to be frustrating.  I'm really going to try to start at WW tonight. My problem is that I have to convince myself, to do something I really want just for myself, and let everyone else take care of themselves.  I'm my own worst enemy where that's concerned.  I know it would be fine with everyone else, so why is it so hard for me to set time aside for me????  Hmmm......hmmm  Sounds like avoidance doesn't it!   Well, whether I'm right about that or wrong, I have to get moving and WW is a good way to start, so it's a new day for both of us.

Whew!!! Where did that come from this early in the morning. LOL  Okay, on to more important things. :)      Only the two Davids are left on IDOL, which we all thought would happen.  Now, to see who will win the title next week.

Nurse Pat, last day of work,Hooray Hooray, for you.  Leaving for the cruise won't be long now.  Everyone I know who has taken the Alaskan cruise has just loved it.  Are you on the cruise ship the whole time or do you also travel by train once you're there.  One of my friends did that and she loved it.  Another one, though, said that they took a sight seeing plane ride, once there, and it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.  She said they played music, by Enya (sp?)  once you were up and looking over the beautiful  scenes.  It all sounds wonderful to me.

JoLynn, I'm sure Mom will go out for lunch today because the weather has made a complete change from yesterday's rain, and today is sunny and a little warmer.  It's funny, though, I can't get there too early when she wants to go out to lunch because she wants to leave, then immediately, and it is a little too hard for me to eat lunch as early as she does.  I try to hold her off until at least between 11:00 and 11:30, LOL  She eats dinner at 3:30 now.  Does your mom eat her meals that early too?  I think a lot of the senior, seniors do  :)

Have to get some things finished here before leaving, so, I'll check back later. Hope everyone has a nice day.  God bless. Jo Ann

    Re: HC 5/15/08

Good morning everyone.  We had storms late last night and into the wee hours.  It is still overcast but the clouds are supposed to burn off as the day progresses.  The lawns are looking lush and the weeds are growing!  Too well!!  I'll have some more of those 3 ft dandelions soon.

Shirley...I think you've done well listing the reasons for weight loss.  for me, it's the planning ahead.  I have the best of intentions but can't (won't) seem to follow through.  I'm keeping that list too...it's a great one!  I haven't been eating enough....just grab a bite here and there. Hope that phase gets over with soon.   I think that once I'm truly settled in with pictures up etc that I can concentrate more on what I need to do for myself.

Sue...what an awful day for you.  I think your chocolate and your libations were the perfect ending for that kind of day.  After all, we CAN start fresh today.  Hope that today is much calmer and more fulfilling in every way.

Jo Ann, I think we just have to remember that we, each of us, are number one to ourselves...we have to take care of ourselves so that we CAN take care of our family and friends.  Just remember, you're worth it!  And there is no one in your family that will fault you for taking care of yourself.  Remember that.

I already have a load of towels in the washer.  Today is nail day so I'm looking forward to that and then I have Alpha tonight.  DS is coming up around noon with the casserole etc and hope he will have time to put the new headboard on.  With all this widely spaced activity, I likely won't get much done...but tomorrow is another day...so said Miss Scarlet O'Hara!

I'd better get on with things...I need breakfast!  Perhaps fresh strawberries sliced into vanilla yogurt and some cinnamon toast...that sounds good and reasonably healthy.  Y'all have a great day...hope Viny hasn't worn himself out with the garden etc.

    Hello everyone.

It's going to be 90 todays so I've just got a minute. Time Has a way of getting away from me when I come here and I  Have a huge list of things I want to get done and don't do well in  the heat.

Sue, it always seems odd to me when you guys say you have a Drs. appt. on Sat.  None of ours are open on weekends.

Don't feel bad about the weight gain.....it was probably all that stress you were under or maybe  just fluid build up.

JoAnn, Marti and I were talking about how we let what we do for others get in the way of what we should do for ourselves but Verna is right.  We need to take care of ourselves first.....I think it's a throwback to our upbringing of putting God first, others second and ourselves last.  Can we ever really get that out of our heads?

I'm a bit sore from my workout yesterday.  I did 20 min. weight tape and then did 40 min. of kickboxing.  I can tell you, I was "Dewy" when I finished that workout.  Tongue Tied

Ok, must go hang clothes on the line and then run to the store.

Have a sunshiny day everyone.  Cool

    Re: HC 5/15/08

Good morning - the sun is shining and we are to get up to about 75 today and then into the 80s for the next several days. WooHoo! Maybe spring has finally sprung. I went to the greenhouse after work yesterday and bought some phlox. Now, I have to decide whether to plant it in my raised circle flower or on the bank as a ground cover. Any suggestions?

LOL, Barb. I tried "speaking" to you all - in fact I tried twice. For some reason after I typed my post and posted it (both times), it said that there was a problem with the network and to try back later. So, I tried posting without typing anything and of course it went through! Now, I am trying from work - hopefully, it will work this time.

Sue, after the day you had yesterday, you deserved a little self-indulgence. Why is your knee hurting? Did you hurt it and I missed it? Like Barb, I have wondered about the doctor’s appointments on Saturday, too. How is your dad doing?

JoAnn, my mom lives in an independent living facility. She has a 2-bedroom apartment; however, as part of her rent, her evening meal is provided in the diningroom and they eat at 5:00 p.m. So, she likes to have lunch no later than noon. When I am staying up there with her and we go down to dinner, I feel like I’m having dinner in the middle of the afternoon - because dh & I usually don’t eat dinner until between 6:30 and 7:00. My father-in-law lives alone (he’s 89) and he eats lunch between 10:30 and 11:00, though.

Verna, you give good advice. I like what you told both Shirley and JoAnn. I think the reason I find it easy to skip out on WW is because I’m not truly committed to it. If I were, then I would make it one of my main priorities. As I said yesterday, I need to be in the right frame of mind to do it and be committed to doing it. I know you will feel so much more at home once you get the rest of your put away and put up. I think once you have done that, your eating habits will straighten out. You have had a lot going on in your life the last few months - between buying & selling houses, your trip, moving, Shirley’s visit, etc.

Barb, you don’t need to try and get everything done outside today - it sounds like we will have some nice weather for several days now.

Marti, thanks for the book review on Twenty Wishes. I bought the book at Costco the last time I was there - now just to find the time to read it!

    Until later....

    Re: HC 5/15/08

Just passing through the Computer room so of course I had to sit down here and see if anyone else had posted.

Glad you finally got to post Jolynn.  I thought you were snubbing us.  LOL

Rosauers has a 1/2 price sale again so we picked up some canned Salmon and TV dinners DH likes for when I don't want to cook.  He also  got a doz. donuts....the lady went in the back and got him warm ones and sliced him a fresh loaf of Sourdough bread.  Looks like I'm not the only one who spoils him.  Smile

I washed all the downstairs windows inside and out.  The flower bed I want to work on is in the sun right now so I'm going to have to find a different one to weed.

My aunt just called and asked if I want some Rhubarb and Lilac plants.  She lives about 20 mi. east of us, on the Wa. side.  I can't go there today but sometime in the next few days I'll go.

I got 2 miniature Rose bushes this morning on sale at Safeway.  The flower lady even opened up a fresh container for me so I could pick what I wanted.  I think I'll go back and get  a couple to take to my aunt.

I should make my uncle a pineapple cake too.  He loves that and he has a birthday next week.

Well, I hear the mower has stopped so I'd better get off here before I get caught goofin' off.  Wink

Good afternoon Group....Well I did survive my last day of work till after vacation.  Guess I'll start thinking about packing soon.

JoAnn, we wont' be doing one of those cruie/train trips.  This is just the cruise--the same one Verna was on last year.  I'm sure people at work who know how cold I get wonder if I've lost my mind going up there, but it's somewhere I've never been, so I'll deal with the cold.

Round 2 of the storms last night wasn't quite as bad as the night before, but Ana was still having problems.  I did notice that one of the big old trees by the creek on the property has a huge limb broken ...I'm assuming the maintenance men or lawn service or someone will eventually cut it off the rest of the way.

Hope everyone is doing well. Talk to y'all later. Pat

    Re: HC 5/15/08

    Hi everyone,

Finally back home.  Unfortunately, all the good intentions in the world won't work if there just aren't enough hours in the day on Thursday. :)  Mom was just feeling so good today and, I think because it was so sunny outside, had lots of things she wanted to be out doing.  I was really glad that she wanted to get out to do them with us.  Of course, her back was feeling it by the time we got her back home, but it was still good for her.  She has such a nice patio off of the lobby of her apartment and when we got there this morning it looked very comfortable and inviting.  Part of it was in shade and the other part in some sun.  I suggested to her that she take a walk out there with her walker to get some fresh air and a little exercise, when we're not there during the week.  I hope she will do it.  There are automatic doors, so that will be easy for her to get through and there are always people either outside or just inside in the lobby, so she wouldn't feel alone out there.  When we got back home, I cleaned her fruit for her and my sister did the refrigerator, so that will make things more manageable for her during the week.

I might look into WW on line, since it looks like Thursdays just won't work.  There is only one other WW meeting in this area and it is on Tuesday mornings, and I can't get there at that time.  We used to have two meetings on Thrursday evenings, one at 5:30 and the other starting at 6:30 because there were so many people, but they cut that down to one jam packed meeting at 5:30.  In all honesty, I know the program and can really do it myself, I just have to start journaling again and, as Verna said, planning ahead.

You're right, Verna about our taking care of ourselves.  We owe it to ourselves and to our loved ones if we want to be productive and able to help them when they need it.  I'm sure you'll be back in the swing of things, like you said, once your house is really all completed.  Your breakfast did sound good this morning.

No, Barb, I think that was ingrained in us so strongly and for so long that it will always be first and foremost what decides how we priotitize.  We can recognize it, though, and that could come in handy when we need it.  Wow, kick boxing, I didn't know you did that.  Good for you.  I have to admit that even when I ride my exercise bike, I seldom get to the "dewy" stage.  LOL   That has to mean that I'm just not working hard enough.

JoLynn, I'm glad you were finally able to get on the BB.  Frank and I eat dinner later too, around 7 PM.  I know lots of older people, who have started eating their meals earlier and earlier.  My Mom also has her main meal for lunch and then something lighter for "dinner" at around 3:30. I can remember a Steinfield episode when he visited his parents in a retirement community they moved to and he was so funny about eating the "early bird special" with them.  I'm sure that's down the road for us too.  :)

Barb, your Aunt and Uncle will be so please with the special treats you're going to bring for them.  I love lilacs, how lucky you are to be getting some plants from them.  Tom just told me this morning that he saw some beautiful lilacs and remembered how I always brought some in during May and wished he had a bush in his yard.  If I know him, that will be one of the things he does in the yard next.

Nurse Pat, your cruise sounds like it will be just wonderful. When my cousin did the cruise/train trip, she said it was wonderful seeing all of the sights, but it was not an easy trip to make.  She was exhausted, so maybe just the cruise will be better.  Hope you take lots of pictures. What memories you'll be bringing back with you.

When Frank comes in from cutting the grass, we're having left overs from last night.  I made enough talapia and roasted vegetables for tonight, thinking I would be at WW, so that's an easy dinner but one of my favorites.

Hope everyone has a nice evening.  Take care and God bless. Jo Ann

    Good afternoon friends,

I’ve had a very busy day but just wanted to check in for a few minutes.

NursePat and Jo Lynn thank you for the offers to help me out after my surgery.Wink

Wouldn’t it be nice to have my own nurse and cook?  DD would appreciate that too.Yes

My friend came over this afternoon and planted the Knock Out Rose for me.

I’m thinking now that I should have bought two for that space. I’ll think about it for a while and just might do that in a couple weeks.

It’s already seven o’clock this day just flew by.

Marti my friend Ruthie and I are going to start walking the Mall again Monday.

I think it will be a good thing to keep my upper leg muscles strong.

I hope I can get in to see my doctor next week when he gets the results back from the blood work and scan.

My girls (yes Verna too) feel I should have the surgery ASAP. Huh?

Ok  Gotta go DD is calling ~~~she made dinner and it’s ready.

    Catch you all tomorrow.

    Shirley

Hello everyone.  NPat,  enjoy your trip to Alaska,  this is the trip we took in May and we had wonderful weather as I hope you do.

I don't feel up to speaking to all of you, started the implants this morning, and I've not felt really good all afternoon, pain medication is making me sick so that means no food is staying down, so I may hit the bed early.

    I'll check back tomorrow.

    Re: HC 5/15/08

Good evening all! A cool day here but I kept warm by going with my friend & spending money. We bought all the tomato plants we need, green pepper plants and clothes... Colleen now has to find a few HOT pepper plants & we should be good to plant. Our WW leader told us that it was 90 degrees on this day, last year. It was about 56 degrees the last time I checked, this afternoon. I did pick up a new iris plant for the yard, I love spring!

Sue, you did have a chocolate & Mike’s Hard Lemonade day yesterday. Hope it was a better one today for you.

JoAnn, I think we all do that avoidance thing. Did you have a nice lunch with your mom today? Dinner at 3:30 is a little early for me... Too bad your mom’s back bothered her... It’s too bad you can’t get to the WW meeting. I know the program too but I NEED the accountability of that meeting to push me into following the program. I don’t do it at all by myself. I’m BAD! What time does your mom go to bed, if she eats dinner at 3:30? I’m sure you’re right about it being down the road for us too!

Verna, I wish we could see a picture of those 3 foot dandelions! Think I’ll keep my little IL ones. How is Ms. Molly adjusting to the new place? You sure are a busy bee... Your breakfast sounded good, a little slice of angel food cake under it would have added to it...LOL

Barb, did you get everything done on your list today? You are very right on the way we take care of others before ourselves. Don’t know if I can change that in my mind.... How nice that all those ladies spoil you & your DH! What color are your new rose bushes? I thought the new mower was for you to use?

JoLynn, have your crops started poking thru the ground yet? I see a few cornfields popping up here & there! Did you get the ground cover phlox or the taller ones?

Nurse Pat, glad you survived your last day of work. Now get that packing done & get ready to relax. The Alaska trip is something my DH would love to do. Remember, LAYERS! Lots & lots of layers of clothes... Just have fun!

Shirley, your list yesterday was perfect. I have to go back & print it out for my frig. I want to hear how you like that knock out rose bush. That is one I’d like to try but have to decide where to put it first. Maybe it’s time to DIG up more of the yard!! DH will love that one. I kind of agree with your girls & Verna, get it over with while the weather is nice so you can get outside to walk some. You can read about gardening this year & use that knowledge next year. Make sure you check out NursePat & JoLynn’s schedules so they can be there with you!

Marti, take care of yourself. Those implants sound painful. Lynn also couldn’t take the pain meds they gave her last week. She took them but, like you, food came back up... Sleep tight!

About bed time here too. Take care all! Pat A

    Re: HC 5/15/08

Just got back from Heather's game .  It got up to almost 90 here today.

Pat, I didn't get everything done on my list but who can ever do that? I feel good about the clean windows though....well, until the sun comes in tomorrow morning and I see all I missed.

The roses I bought were lavender and kind of orange.  They had a large variety so it was hard to pick.  I want to get a real nice big rose bush for Landen.  I need to replace Heather's too.  It blooms but it is kind of spindly.

Marti, I'm sorry you are in pain.  I hurt for you, just thinking about it.  If you take your medication with 7 up it disolves faster and may not make you sick....I learned that from a dentist years ago.

Shirley, I hate that you have to have the surgery but your "girls" might be right about doing it sooner than later.  It would be nice to heal during the summer....and I think we heal better than anyway.  At least you could sit and enjoy flower beds while you are being waited on.

Well, I'll see you all in the morning.
