    The Aluminum Foil Secret

Did you know this? I checked and it does.

Subject: FW: The Aluminum Foil Secret

A friend sent this to me and I sure did not know it, never read the
    ends of the box. duh

Well, I'm not telling everyone my age, as most of you already
know...BUT...I had to go into the kitchen and check this out for myself. Who ever
looks at the end of your aluminum foil box? What a fantastic idea. Now, if
someone would just make plastic wrap that didnt stick to itself.
I've been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to remember.
Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain. You know, like when you are in the
middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the
roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start
over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time.
Well, I would like to share this with you. Yesterday I went to throw
out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at
the end of the box. And written on the end it said, 'Press here to lock end'.
Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place.  How long
has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic  brand of
aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran
wrap and it had one too! I can't count the number of times the Saran warp roll has
jumped out when I was trying to cover something up.
I guess we are never too old to learn.

Checked every one and not one has those tabs.

Wow, you're right! I just checked on both Reynold's foil, and Glad wrap, sure enough. After all these years that's so funny! Who knew? Thanks for posting, will save me a lot of future aggravation.

    Re: The Aluminum Foil Secret

Crazy reason why I always knew this!  My grandmother seemed to have far too much time on her hands and was indeed a perfectionist.  (Trust me a difficult combination.)  For instance, in her kitchen the pots and pans stacked in the cupboard always had to have the handles in alignment.  Canned goods always had to be neatly stacked (by type...fruit, veggies, etc) with labels facing out.

One of her other "neat freak" quirks was to actually fish a length of heavy string through the hole (and also the tubes holding the wrap) in the box on the foil and plastic wrap boxes and tying the ends of the string together ensuring they coldn't pop out of the box.

As I said, she indeed have to much time on her hands.  But that's how I always knew about the tabs.  As to the string **shrug** it's not actually a bad idea now that I think about it.

    Re: The Aluminum Foil Secret

My plastic wrap has tabs, because they're the finger holes used to pick up the heavy box

    Foil does not.

But my wraps are the commercial boxes (500' of foil, 2000' of plastic film)

Has anyone else considered buying their wraps at the restaurant/bar supply store?  It's a lot more convenient to have the large box, so you aren't always running out of one or the other.

Oh, and there's no chance those large rolls are going to go flying out of their boxes--LOL

hey, never noticed this before! Went and checked mine and yup, they have the tabs. Parchment paper I buy in a very large restaurant size roll. Almost to heavy to lift so have it set up on my pantry shelf.

Callie, I buy the commercial sizes, too. Rarely have to worry about running out. I also think that it's easier to dispense wrap or foil from these boxes, as they're heavy enough to provide an anchor and stay stationary against my pulling. The wrap box even has a sliding cutter, so I don't have to try to cut off the wrap against a flimsy set of "teeth" on the cutter edge.

I do have a smaller box of foil for camping. I'll have to look at the box for the tabs.

I must confess that I'm a big fan of the new Reynolds non-stick foil.  Makes reheating some things so easy!
