Tippy, that little House cake is really pretty. What size pan did you make it in? It looks like a pretty big square one. Did you use cake mixes, or a scratch cake? If it was mixes, did it take 2? Inquiring minds want to know. Not that I will ever be asked to make one. All my GD's are too old to want one like that. Miranda is the youngest, and she will be 10 in July. Tristan and Zack are my 2 youngest grandkids, and they would want something like, "Cars" , "Trains", or something else that's boyish.
Margaret-E, the recipe for SOS that Zora mentioned was also made with dried beef, instead of sausage. It was a favorite of some of my family members too. I usually served it with biscuits instead of toast though.
Zora, I'll try your new method of resizing some of my pictures, since I have had problems doing it at Photobucket.
NancyZ, I will only have them approx 3 days a week, and sometimes just a few hours. It depends on Margie's shift. Most of the time she's scheduled to go in around 10 or 10:30, but sometimes it's as late as 2 PM. Her DH, gets off from work at 2:30, and will be with them. Zack is so sweet, the time goes by so quickly. I know I'm spoiling him, but he's my youngest, (till I start getting "grands"). Oldest DD, Erin is 23, and still single. Kyle, the next oldest, is 21 and in the Navy. (BTW, an update on him. He will not be going out to sea in the nearby future. He was supposed to this month, but had an injury to his knee during training, so he has to have therapy, and possibly surjury if therapy doesn't work.) After those two, Serena and Mitch will both be 15 this summer. Amanda and Derek were 13 this spring. That only leaves the 3 youngest, Miranda will be 10 in July, Zack 5 in Dec., and Tristan 9 in Jan. ( the neighbors all love Zack, he's so lovable, and polite.) But they do get into some squabbles when they're together, even though there's a 4 yr. age difference.
NanaPeg, actually you can buy the dried beef here in my area. It comes in a small jar and is made by Armour-Star. I bought some recently because I found a chicken recipe on the board for 2 servings, I think. You layer it under the chicken. Anyway, it sounded good to me. Can't remember the other ingredients without looking it up, but I'm going to try it.
Gat, I have made my fair share of Sausage gravy, too. We used to raise hogs on the farm and have them butchered. That homemade sausage is much better than store bought, and it was one of my DH's favorite breakfast's. Actually he liked both sausage and chipped beef. I never made gravy with hamburger.
Merle, I haven't heard any of my neighbors mentioning they have received their checks yet, but my DD, Dorothy told me that they received theirs. I think they are using it for improvements on their house, so they will be spending it, not saving.
Hugs and Prayers for all of you, and your loved ones.
