I see posts from those who are counting the days until President Bush is out of office, and those supporting Obama or Hillary.  Here is something to consider at this very important time in our country's history:

What will it cost the nation if Senator Obama is elected to be the next president of the United States?  Many of us have considered the "cost" of his liberal views on so many issues, but have you looked at the financial cost?

In March, Senator Wayne Allard proposed amendment 4246 which he called "The Obama Spend-o-Rama."  It proposed funding 111 of the 188 spending proposals put forth by Senator Obama in his presidential campaign.  There were another 77 that Allard's staff didn't have time to research before the amendment was offered on the floor of the Senate.

While everyone knew from the beginning that the amendment wouldn't pass, the point was to demonstrate that when a politician makes a campaign pledge, there will be a financial cost to fulfill that pledge.

Senator Allard and his staff concluded that if Congress did implement just these spending proposals by Barack Obama, it would add up to $1.4 trillion over the next five years.  This would be a ten percent increase over the current budget.

Senator Richard Burr pointed out that one year of Senator Obama's proposed spending increase "is bigger than the 5-year increase (in federal income tax collections) that President Clinton imposed on the American taxpayer."

Senator Allard also said that "if Congress decides to widen the pool of taxpayers footing the bill" it would have to raise taxes on the top 50 percent of taxpayers (that includes anyone who makes more than $31,000 in adjusted gross income).

Consider the consequences carefully before you vote in November.

Hi Jo! I think the posts you're speaking of, counting down the days, is actually on Kitchen Chat. Here on Recipes we don't have very many threads having to do with politics.

However, of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion on any board!

 I'm not in the least refuting anything that might have been collected in information on this topic...but it's been many many years since I learned....

Something like this is SO easy to twist to suit the authors. I'm not saying it's wrong....heck, they could be being very conservative...or they could be eaxaggerating and trying scare tactics.....  they're politicians.... if you knew how much the books are actually cooked, in ANY business administration.....nuff  said

Another thing to consider is the cost of the Iraq war.  If that ends quickly, this country will save trillions in war costs.  Although much of that money will need to be used to help take care of the vets, both emotionally and mentally as well as physical handicaps resulting from that war.
