Have you hugged your dog today?

My friend had to put her two dogs down yesterday. They were Giant Schnauzers and also brothers.

Jack suddenly started losing weight...very noticeable on a 180 lb dog. They took him to the vet last Friday and did some tests that showed he was just full of cancer.  Daniel has been slowly losing the use of his back legs. On Tuesday, he suddenly could not use his back legs at all and Jack was not doing well at all. So, they decided to put them to sleep at the same time.  Isn't that just the saddest thing?

I stopped by their house on my way home from work last night. It was so weird to walk into their house and not have these two 180 lb dogs come running up to you. They looked and sounded scary, but they were both sweethearts. Their house seems so quiet now.  It hurt to see  this huge mound of dirt in the backyard where they had buried Jack and Daniel. I came home and just hugged my dog and cried some more.

So, rest in peace Jack and Daniel. May you have fun again running and playing at the Rainbow Bridge.

How tragic! I'm sure they are heartbroken.

Sadie Mae and I had a right good cuddle earlier.

That's sad, Tammi.  Both my dogs are elderly and in fact, I had to take one to the vet just last Saturday for a an age related problem.  We generally hug and cuddle several times a day.

Oh that's so sad....I hug Maddie everyday & several times! Not a funny time, but I loved their names & I'm sure that was the idea!

DS just had to put down his two boxers down just 1½ months apart.  Spencer was 8 or 9, he had cancer.  DS spent a fair amount of money with chemo and other measures before he realized it wasn't buying any quality time for Spence....then the oldest Ticen who just turned 11 and had been having progressive problems with his hind legs, just not working...was put down 2 weeks ago on Tuesday.

He's heart broken still & they're taking a break from pets...but I'm suspecting it won't be too long.  Can't believe the early age these bigger dogs pass....it's so dang sad.

That's terribly heartbreaking, my heart goes out to them.

I have to ask...Giant Schnauzers?  I've never heard of such a breed...180lbs??? They must be HUGE!  I'm trying to DH into letting me have a mini, can't imagine a giant.  I'll be they were sweet hearts too!

Yes....every day,  several times a day.   It must be devastating to lose 2 at once.  Broken Heart

This is so heartbreaking. But I hope in time they will remember all the precious love that was given.

That is so sad, Tammi.  It's such a joy to get them as darling little puppies but you know that one day they'll get old and pass on.  I still have a few blue days where I miss my Molly.

Cosmic thoughts for your friend, Tammi.  That is so sad.

As my terrorist trio gets older, I know I'll have to face that day myself, and I try to make the most of every moment with them.  I'll be lost when they're gone.

    That is sad.

I love the names, though.  My boss recently got two puppies and named them Jake and Elwood.  His wife said it'd be a shame to split them up--that's why they have two.  And now they're partners in crime, speeding toward Chicago...you know the rest.

And to answer the original question--I don't have a dog, but I hugged my next-door neighbor's dog.  Maybe that counts...

    Broken Heart

Even though I`m gone, I`ll never forget the way you looked when we first met. Your hand reached out and stroked my hair, our eyes glistened, fixed in a stare. I knew from this moment how life would be, you were my companion and yours was me. These memories are always in my head; long walks, the games, my cozy bed, Gentle words spoken, never a yell, someone to listen, a secret to tell. But, each year of mine was equal to seven. I`ll be watching you now, from up here in heaven, When rain drops fall, it`s my tears I cry, Remembering your love from my bed in the sky. Whispering winds carry my promise to you, For being my friend I will forever....Thank You.

He doesn’t care if you’re not smart, not popular, not a good joke-teller, not the best athlete, nor the best-looking person. To your dog, you are the greatest, the smartest, the nicest human being who was ever born. You are his friend and protector.”

How sad to lose both at the same time.  I, too, love their names - I shall lift a Lynchburg Lemonade in their honor!  I don't have a dog - does cuddling and scratching my kitties count?

For the poster wondering what a giant Schanuzer looks like.....

I don't care much for standar schanuzer's but the giant ones are really cool.

I'm so sorry for your griends heartbreak.  My dogs get several hugs a day.
