    Huckabee's Obama Joke Falls Flat

    Huckabee's Obama Joke Falls Flat

    By Michael D. Shear
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- He was known as a presidential candidate with a sense of humor. But Mike Huckabee's joke at the National Rifle Association convention Friday was a dud.

Appearing in front of about 6,000 gun rights activists, Huckabee's speech was interrupted by a loud noise. The former Arkansas governor said, "That was Barack Obama. He just tripped off a chair. He's getting ready to speak and somebody aimed a gun at him and he -- he dove for the floor."

The comment was immediately noted on news websites and by bloggers who found the crack about Obama getting shot at inappropriate. Obama's campaign had no comment, as it was engaged in a heated back-and-forth with both President Bush and Sen. John McCain -- the presumptive Republican nominee -- over Obama's fitness to be commander
    in chief.

Huckabee provided most of the humor in the 2008 Republican primaries, cracking jokes during several of the debates. He won the Iowa caucuses but failed to reach far beyond the evangelical community in states after that.

Maybe he was trying too hard at some humor, but I understand why they didn't laugh....it wasn't funny!

It was an absolute outrageous thing to say. If it had been a regular citizen his butt would have been hauled off by autrhorities, and he would have been questioned and given psychological testing!

It really makes one wonder just who these people think they are! What makes them think they are so funny, and above reproach that they can get away with these kinds of statements.

The very idea of someone even thinking such a thing is repugnant to say the very least. For shame!

    Very poor taste.

    What an ass.

So... do I understand this, a "good christian man" is publicly suggesting that some deranged, racist Republicans should point a gun at a presidential candidate? What is with these freaks and their incessant need for mayhem and violence?

In the Right-wing, Hate/Fear monger pantheon, they prolly think this is a hoot, but when you've lived through assassination after assassination of the iconic people of our times -- JFK, RFK, MLK, Malcolm X , the attempts on Ford and Reagan -- you don't joke about this stuff.

On a positive note;  there went Huckabee’s VP prospects.

We can only hope!  Now lets hope Romney does something to hopefully kock him out of the VP run also.

Tonight, after the news services picked up this little gem, Huckabee has released a new statement, apologizing for his earlier remark:

"During my speech at the NRA a loud noise backstage, that sounded like a chair falling, distracted the crowd and interrupted my speech. I made an offhand remark that was in no way intended to offend or disparage Sen. Obama. I apologize that my comments were offensive, that was never my intention."

Guess ole Huck misremembered that Obama was placed under secret service protection last year — the earliest ever for a U.S. presidential candidate — because of threats just like this.

Ummmm, what law exactly has been used to do that to a regular citizen?

Was it a bad joke? YES!

Does it imply certain behavior that is wrong and still occurs in this country? YES!

Do you honestly think that he ment it that way? I don't think so.

Should he apologize to Obama? YES!

Is this being blown way out of proportion? YES!

As is everything. McCain is being pretty smart. Sitting back and letting the Dems kill themselves.  Noone wants to see it happen. It's a car crash you can't help but watch.

May 15, 2008; NYPost -- Either Barack Obama or Hillary Rodham Clinton would beat John McCain in the presidential race this fall, according to a new poll, which also shows that an overwhelming majority of Democrats wants a "dream ticket" that includes Clinton and Obama.

Obama leads McCain, 47 percent to 40 percent, according to the Quinnipiac University survey, while Clinton tops McCain, 46 percent to 41 percent.

A joke in bad taste I would say. I would also say the same for the jokes made about the President. NO ONES death is a joking matter.
