WHAT ARE YOU READING? 5/18

Good Morning all you readers and posters out there in cyberland.  It is a wet dreary day here in WPA.  I think it is the coldest wetest May that we have had in years.  One good thing about it is that all flowering trees and shrubs have been beautiful and have lasted so much longer than usual.

As I don't have anything more from the library to read I am starting an older book by Greg Iles called FOOTPRINTS OF GOD.  I have enjoyed all the other books that he has written.  He is one of my favorite authors.

As I mentioned in last weeks thread about Nevada Barr's WINTER STUDY it was a very well written book with lots of information about wolves.

good morning from Arkansas!  I haven't had much chance to read lately, but I did finish one this weekend.

I've been slowly reading on TOO PRETTY TO DIE by Susan McBride.  It's the 5th in the Debutante Dropout series.  They are all set in Dallas and hilarious.  I thought I had the ending figured out, but didn't see it coming!

Next up will be THE SUDOKU PUZZLE MURDERS by Parnell Hall.  it's the newest in the PUzzle Lady series.  I just love these books, too.  Sometimes they are laugh out loud hilarious.  I don't know if I'll have time to start this before I leave for Mexico or if I'll take it with me.  I fly out June 9 and I have 2 days out of school before I leave!! 

I also have THE GRAVEDIGGER by Peter Grandbois.  I think the recommendation came from here.  It's set in Spain and the gravedigger has many stories to tell.  I thought it might be a good one to take on my trip with me.

I can't believe that FEARLESS FOURTEEN by Janet Evanovich comes out while I'm gone to Mexico.  Guess I'll have something to read when I come back in July!

It's a rainy day here again too .   I enjoyed the TV series "Dexter"  so much that I bought the books by Jeff Lindsay.   I finished the first one - "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" and have started the second one -"Dearly Devoted Dexter".   The last one is "Dexter in the dark"  and I'm sure I'll be finished with them by the end of the week.       Although he's a serial killer , he works for the police dept.  and is a nice guy who everyone likes.   It's so cool.

Hey Everyone!  It's been a couple of weeks since I've been here.  Just too nice outside to be on the computer.  I've been reading, tho.  One of my favorite things to do is sit in the warm sun on the patio and read.  YEAH! :D

I finished The Seventh Scroll by Wilbur Smith.  It was good, but I really liked River God better.  I like the ancient Egyptian setting.  I'm hoping the third book goes back to ancient Egypt.  Now I'm on a classic sci-fi kick.  I'm currently reading Slaughterhouse-5 which I can't believe I've not read before!  And after that I've got Jules Verne's From The Earth To The Moon on my shelf.

Good afternoon to all my fellow readers from dark, gloomy and chilly East Tennessee.  It's looked like rain all day, but we haven't had any yet.  We could use some rain, but I would like for it to be a bit warmer.  I dressed like winter time to go to church this morning.

I've been reading Marcia Muller's BOTH ENDS OF THE NIGHT.  I'm almost through, and I have enjoyed the book very much.  This is an action-packed and suspenseful novel.  Sharon McClone's former flight instructor performs in a aerobatic flight show, and something goes horribly wrong and she dies in a burning crash.  She had already confided that her live-in boyfriend was missing and had left a note for her to hide with his son.  McClone takes this on as a personal vendetta.  Together with her lover, Hy, McClone bypasses the authorities to hunt down the man responsible for her teacher's death.  It's a good book, but there's a lot of people to keep up with in this book.

I just went to the library Saturday and checked out six books, so I have plenty of good reading for a few weeks.  Thank goodness for excellent libraries.

 I am reading 'The Emancipator's Wife' by Barbara Hambly.  Very good read, but a very long book.  Almost 800 pages.  Forgot to add this woman writes mentally challenged really good!

I am up in Georgia at teh moment, and the weather has been overcast for the day.   My daughter is doing good.  We see the oncologist tomorrow.

CrazyBandit ---    I loved all the old Indy movies,  and now I'm taking my 11 year old grandson to see this one.   He was shocked when he found out Harrison Ford was Han Solo.  He's way too old!

Today I am reading GIRLFRIENDS CLUB--Judith Henry Wall. I am enjoying it also.

On the eve of Mary Sue Prescott's forty-fifth birthday and scheduled mastectomy, she and her three closest friends gather at a lakeside cabin that has been their refuge for years. Then Mary Sue's boyfriend joins the bittersweet celebration, and her three friends are forced to make a decision that results in a haunting and terrifying secret. How each of the women deals with this awful secret is a reflection of how she has coped with traumas and stress in the past. Their struggles, and the trials and tribulations of growing older in a culture of youth and beauty, are at the heart of this moving, honest, and ultimately triumphant story.

This has been a don't want to put down story.

Morning!   Hope you all had a nice weekend, ours was pretty busy.   :)   I finished TURNING TABLES, I'd give it a 7 out of 10...   It was written by a set of twins who both waited tables, but it is a fiction account.     I'm about halfway through SAVED (Falla), which I picked up thinking it was a nonfiction book, but turns out it isn't.     It's very much like PLAYING FOR PIZZA (Grisham) only with hockey.   I'm not hating it, but it's not a raver either.  

Margaret, is WINTER STUDY in the Anna Pigeon series?    I had read a whole bunch of those, and then got burnt out on them and stopped.     I gave FOOTPRINTS a big thumbs up, but there hasn't been a single Iles book I've read that I haven't loved.     :)

We're in the middle of lilac season in NH, it only lasts a few weeks, but it's my favorite flower and one of my favorite times of the year   :)

Jolene - WINTER STUDY is in the Anna Pidgeon series.  I haven't  read Nevada Barr in a long time but thought this one was interesting and fast moving.

I am just getting into FOOTPRINTS OF GOD by Greg Iles and it grabbed me from the beginning.

Sun is shining here this morning but it is only 42º.  I hope the rain is over for awhile.  Our lilacs are just about done.  I have a honeysuckle bush that is out full right now.  Saw the first hummingbird yesterday.  Will have to get the feeder out and filled with sugar water.

Thanks Margaret!   There's a 10 person waiting list for WINTER STUDY at the library, I put my name on there for it.    This is what I've read of the Barr books, I gave the last one a so-so rating, but I think it's because I had read too many of them back to back and just got burnt out on them.

 We had a gorgeous weekend here in St. Louis. Sunny and highs in the 70's. Yesterday was a little windy but still comfortable and no rain at all the whole weekend. I can't remember the last time that happened! 

Worked in the yard most of Satuday and a good part of Sunday too but was able to fiinish Murder, She Wrote "Manhattens & Murder" by Jessica Fletcher & Donald Bain. All in all not a bad book. My only complaint was that Sherriff Metzger was in the book and he always called Mrs. Flertcher Jess and if you ever watched the TV show he never called her Jess, he always called her Mrs. F. and they said he was from Maine and had never been to New York but on the TV series he was retired from the New York police force. He also called Doctor Hazlit Seth and on the show he always addressed him as "Doc".  As I said, though, not a bad book and I will definitely look for some of the others in the series - there are somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 titles altogether.

Now I'm reading Answered Prayers by Danielle Steel which is pretty good so far. Not sure what I'll read after this. I have a whole shopping bag full of book that I haven't read yet so I'll go through that and see whar catches my eye.

Hi!  It is beautiful in Idaho today, although it is supposed to hit mid-90's.  Then a cooling off period.  The lilacs and cottonwoods are both blooming here Jolene- and my allergies are telling me about it!! 

I finished the Hannah Alexander book- it was good but I will probably wait to read another one for a bit.  I found most of the Mitford series by KARON at a book sale this weekend, and I think I have only read the first one, so must get on track!  I had to return my PUZZLE LADY book to the library- will try again later!  It just wasn't grabbing my attention!

Three baseball games this week- I am beginning to tan a little!  Our Friends of the Library float won first place this weekend in the parade- YEAH!  Have a great week!  Ellie
