    Canadian Corner 21/05/08

    Good Morning CC Friends

Nippy here this morning, just 3 deg. May get to 12. This has been a cool and wet spring.

Pick up the newspapers at the door and headlines - Canadians facing hard times - heck I've known that for a while.

Since its cool  I'm making cabbage rolls today to freeze. Find them really handy for a quick meal and I love them.

A gent that is 93 and sits behind me in church does not get much homemade and brings me meat pies now and then so I'm going to make him a whole bunch of cookies, banana bread and some squares today too. I try and pay him for the meat pies but he mails the money back to me so I buy food for the daily food bank and they acknowledge him for it.

Dolores - you new treasures sound real nice

YF- wish you good luck  on your appt. you will be on my mind all day. Keep us posted sweetie.

    Have a good day eveyone

    Good Morning Crea and Friends,

Not too warm here either, should be warmer by the weekend.

The price of gas is $130. a barrel so we will get an increase at the pump...what else it new eh?

When I get back today I will let you know what the outcome is and what is next.

Who is going to win the American Idol tonight. I like David A.

It looks like Obama is going to take the Democrats nomination. Did I say that right?

    Another Canadian killed in Mexico.

Ted Kennedy has brain cancer, that is sad for his family.

    Have a great day everyone.

Good morning Crea!! hey there YF! good to see you girls up and at 'em!  this price of gas is really going to hurt me this summer...........i rely on tourists for my summer, and i doubt they will be coming. last year it was the canadian dollar that hurt. so this year? perhaps a summer of leisure and no cash flow. lol

DH is busy putting his garden in, between raindrops.  we have had the fireplace on every night this past week. where is the sun???  sounds like a nice weekend ahead. more fireworks, and lots of traffic AGAIN.  gotta love summer!!

i am working most of the day. we brought another load home from my moms yesterday. phew. i still have stuff to run thru the dishwasher and pack up for my DB. never ending.  i am going to give my house a huge purge the first week of june. we are busy moving bedrooms back around to normal. adding furniture from moms. removing furniture to donate.........just a complete crazy house.

i see yoppers got her crown today! darn good thing! it is about time!!  my wee GD has a crown sitting on my computer desk. i smile and think of yoppers everytime i look at it.

YF, my thoughts and prayers are with you today.  i will be anxious to read a post from you later.

coffee cup is empty.......time for a refill

    catch you later!!

YF- That is too bad about Ted Kennedy- did not take long for that news to spread yesterday.

Katie- sounds like you are going to have one house full of furniture. Will you freeze alot of the garden stuff? Why are you washing dishes when you have to pack them again. I would not waste your time, water and electricity because after unpacked will have to be washed again anyways. LOL Hey girl make things easier for yourself.

I'm back. Die erste Tasse schmekt am besten! (The first cup tastes best)

YF, I'm thinking positive thoughts for you--please post as soon as you're home from the doctor. And Andre was perfectly welcome to the crown in honor of his birthday, but it's nice to have it back on my pointed little head again:)

According to the weather forecast, we should start having warmer temps tomorrow. In the low 20s at least. This sure has been a cold, cold spring. We still see lots of trucks with plows on them--these are the Yoopers who don't believe we're done with winter. We put our snow shovel away last week. We used it for shoveling snow off the balcony, but in the outrageous scenario that there would be more snow it would melt right away, so we felt safe in putting it in the storage room.

Katie, by the time you get done, you'll have wall to wall furniture. Maybe you could do like the Shakers used to do and hang some from pegs on the walls!

    Time for breakfast. BBL

Good morning! Windy here. It was blowing all night long! Woke up to it whistling in the trees! With it being dry too, it is blowing dirt around! Yuck!

Hope everyone has a great day!

    Good Morning Everybody!

It's going to be a beeeautiful day here today - sunny & 67!  A little chilly for the likes of me, but I'll take it anyway.  DH is off work for the rest of the week so we're going to do some work on a side patio that he built last year - we're going to enclose it much like a courtyard.  Yesterday we bought, loaded & unloaded over 400 retaining wall blocks!  UGH!  Today I have a finger on my left hand that must've gotten strained by all of the lifting as it hurts like the dickens this mornng.  Oh well, I WILL survive.  We're going to work on this project all day with plans of it being done by the weekend, it'd better be!  LOL

Seems a little bit unreal about Senator Kennedy - wow, what devastating news for him & his family.

I hope that you all have a great day today & that you accomplish all that you set out to do!

    Good morning CCers

By jove, I think my internal sleeping clock has finally reset.  Its a pleasure to sleep all night and wake at a decently respectable hour.  Yooper, you can keep the crown from me.

Everything is covered with white frost again this morning.  When we checked the gatrden yesterday, there's sure not much coming up.  It might be slim pickings at the farmers' market.  The ground is just powder dry.  Organic rules prohibit using the creek  for watering  (chemical run off from other farms) so we need Mother Nature to open the taps.

DH saw something yesterday they haven't noticed on this farm before.  He took me out just east of the garden and showed me bear tracks made either Sunday or Monday.  He's well experienced in tracking wild critters and says this one was between 400-500 pounds.  I spent all afternoon yesterday mowing grass in the area he was heading towards.  Thank heavens I didn't see a hair.

I had done up the house before we left, so I'd return to order.  Ha Ha.  DD and SO arrived within hours of our leaving, enjoyed the long weekend and departed in a flurry an hour after our return.  They surely did leave a trail in their wake.  Leave it to Mom to clean up again!!

Better get at the laundry and see what other tasks get stroked off my list today. We took a holiday and the list multiplied in our absence.

crea, the dishes are dusty. my mom would want them sparkling clean to give to my DB. i am just doing things the way she would want me to.

yoopers, i have a policy about furniture.  lol.  bring something in? something must go out!!  i am replacing some of my furniture with hers. and giving mine away.

i hate clutter. so, i do have my work cut out for me

off to work. have a nice day

Well, well, well - what did I just hear on the news??  It's National Pickle week!!  They actually said "International", but I'm not so sure about that one.  It's just a crying shame that I don't even LIKE pickles!  LOL

    Good morning CCers,

It is another cool morning here but sunny. I'll be glad when it gets warm & stays warm.

YF, good luck on your report today. I've been sending lots of prayers up for you.

Crea & YF, I never got the recipe put on the board yet but if you look in the cookbook German Potato Salad is on page 36 , the very top one. It is under Mom's name.

I usually make a small recipe of that. We were the only 2 that ate it like that so now it's just me. I make regular for Richard & me.So I get 2 kinds. LOL Like I need it.

I picked a big boquet of peonies yesterday & they smell up the room sooooo good. They bloomed later this year because of the cool weather.

Crea, you just help so many people, you need a crown all of your own.

I did wake up real early one morning & debated on getting up to try for the crown but decided it would be all dinged up & wouldn't fit my beany head & stayed in the bed to catch some more zzzzz's. LOL

Our Monday menu is smoked chickens, smoked baked beans, potato salad, slaw, and a new recipe for mac & cheese I got from the recipe swap. I like to have leftover chicken for pot pies & quesadillas. I know, Crea, you're saying yuk on the "fowl".

Gas is jumping here again by a dime a gallon. Will it never end? It's a holiday weekend so they got to gouge the people.
