Lord have mercy!  Sitting in class in Jr. Hi with the garters digging little holes in the back of your thighs.  Not exactly fads, Prof.  Just stuff women no longer had to deal with when pantyhose and better "unmentionables" came along!

Are you referring to the "sanitary" belt?  Gosh, I'd forgot about that horrible thing.  Tried to explain it one time to a younger friend of mine.  She couldn't even begin to picture something like that.

Yep that's it.  That little piece of metal digging in.  The totally ironic thing is beltless pads came out the year I had my hysterectomy.

Rubber Playtex girdles.  Were we NUTS?????  Yes!! I think it was a form of slow suicide..LOL And, those bullet bras.. Weren't they killers!!

I remember when the girls would wear as many white socks as they could get on and then roll them down. Silly fads, but at least we all walked around with the clothes on our bodies..Not drapping off or void all together.

For goddaske, you're my age.  I know damned well you never used this thing.  We come from the era of "Not your mother's tampon."

    But just in case....

    THIS IS YOUR MOTHER'S PAD

I love the belt!  It's so complicated!

SoF, I got news.  I'm 54 and I remember using those things - not quite as bad as the video but bad enough!  What I could never figure out - you could get pads from vending machines in various public places.  They came folded in half in a little box - with two safety pins.  Now, if you pinned it to your underwear your panties were toast because the pins would tear holes in them.  If you didn't have your belt and you didn't pin it, lord knows where it might end up.  Oh the bad old days!

I'll be 50 in a few weeks, and I remember that darned belt and those mattress pads too! That's what my mother started me out on. I hated them!!!

Oye.. The dreaded sanitary belt.. You have to know that had to have been invented by a man who wanted women to be tortured..LOL

And, now he is an authority on what feminine products you use, Laura.. Astounding!!

I do believe you are also a tad bit older. Laura and  at the very least, a lot more mature.

Ah, the good old days. Some of it was good. Some of it not so good. Thank goodness for progress or some fools would  still be dragging us around by the hair.. LOL

Speaking of hair.. Remember the old permanent burners in the beauty shops? You would get fried hair and they called it a perm...LOL

Thanks for sharing all those fun fads of days gone by.

Just remembered one more--Jheri Curls!  I remember a lot of my friends (boys and girls) getting those in the 80's.

Re: Now, (thanks to Ridge), What Fads Do You Remember from the past?

Here are some of my favorite memories:

    Playing red light-green light

walking home for lunch (mom was home and had it ready for you)

male teachers wore neckties (and maybe a jacket) and female teachers, high heels

    circle pins

Mickey Mouse Club and Spin and Marty

    American Bandstand

dressing up to travel on a plane or train

Keds for girls and PF Flyers for boys, only worn for gym

ugly gym uniforms (mine was blue, each grade had a different color)

powdered laundry detergent that came with a free glass, a dish, or a towel in the box

chewing gum was a major offense in school

the prom was in the gym with a live band

being more afraid of your parents/grandparents than gangs, drive-by shootings, or drugs

the '57 Chevy to cruise around town in

the car keys were kept in the ignition

No safety caps because no one had yet tried to poison a stranger

Howdy Doody and the Peanut Gallery and Buffalo Bob

    Roy Rogers and Dale Evans

I could go on and on...this has been fun!
