My DH just told me this.

he's a truck driver and has been thinking of going elsewhere because he's not getting any miles. a company his friend works for and that he has considered because of the friend, just laid off 20 drivers because of the high diesel prices. that's scary!  this company isn't a hugh, well known company like, say snieder (sp) but still........................

It was only a matter of time.  The only way I see an end to the prices going up is for the truckers to go on strike.  Then something might be done.

2 of my customers have parked half of their fleet.  Between the hassle of finding drivers and the cost of fuel, they felt it was more cost efficient to park them.  It only amounts to about 20 trucks each, but I think you'll find it happening more.  Snieder and JB Hunt did this industry NO good when came in & cut the rates.  This is going to hurt them too.

well, just think.... if they dont lower the diesel soon, more and more trucks will be parked.  and then how will the stuff make it to the stores????  everyone will be groaning and moaning because the trucks arent there

i know that we are only a break down away from being shut down.  we just cant keep up to it anymore.  and what makes it worse, is all these 'new' truckers are coming in and cutting the rates so badly, that the companies dont care about quality anymore--they just want the lowest bottom dollar.  the companies we haul for are constantly trying to lower our rates (which folks we barely break even with! and that is with our truck paid for!!) and yet are charging more to the customers based on the 'higher fuel costs, and the higher cost of shipping' .  this has got to stop.

pretty bad, when a person considers parking their truck to go farming.....   we call it losing money at something else for awhile!  LOL  might as well park our truck and have my husband at home, at least this way i will finally get to see him!!

it is getting bad for trucking companies.  dh works for Venture Express out of middle TN. he lost his good run because V got outbid and has been running, what i call local, if at all. he was off 3 weeks hurt and now that he's back to work, he's not getting a full week. they haul car parts. the plant in middle TN closed this week due to slow car sales. i reckon they'll be open next week. he told them he was going to have to give his notice if he wasn't going to get to work full weeks. they told him to hold on, things are looking up. i hope and pray so. this close to time to get our meds, i told him to hold on until then at least. so much for spending the rebate money on a HD TV.  if things don't pick up fast we'll have to pay bills with it until it's gone. dh may just have to pull up his boot straps and go over the road, which he's always done, but wouldn't go just everywhere. he may have to go NE or out west. and not being home every weekend if that's what he had to do to make a living.  i am so thankful he's ont an O/O!

Its all being set up so Mexican truckers will be accepted more readily. What do they care the price of diesel when the Mexicans are getting paid a third or half of the Americans.

How do you think a truck strike will help - or more likely hurt?  Do you honestly think it will hurt a big company like Exxon?  They turn record profits month after month.  I doubt it would hurt them much.  But it will hurt your neighbor who owns the convenience store - he's already selling gas for only a couple of pennies over his cost.  It will hurt all the local businessmen in your family and in your town.  Big companies like Wal-Mart could hang in there - but not the mom and pop operations.  Do you really want to hurt those people?  After all of that the big guys can come back and charge as much as they want and you'll be stuck - and during the strike prices will go up even more.  Tell me - how will that help?
