    Recipe review... Hash Brown Heaven

    Hash Brown Heaven

    8 hash brown potato patties
    1 lb. hamburger
    1 can mixed vegetables
1 large can of French Fried Onions
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
Mild cheddar cheese, grated, I used the whole bag
    salt, pepper and garlic salt

Grease a 9x13 pan. Brown hamburger; drain. Line bottom of pan with hash brown patties sprinkle with salt and pepper and garlic salt; top with vegetables, then with hamburger add more salt and pepper. Mix soups together, adding enough water to thin slightly. Pour over ingredients in casserole. top with onions and shredded cheese. Bake at 350 for about 35 minutes uncovered.

Got the idea of this recipe from this board then redid it. It is so good and so easy to make. I didn't write down who posted it I'm sorry.

Hey - that sounds mighty delicious and very much like my tater-tot casserole I make. I am wondering if putting the hashbrown's on top would be good, so they could brown and maybe be topped with a little extra cheese to get bubbly and crisp?

Would you mine posting the original, I am just curious what it is and what your particular tweaks are.

    Thank you.

    Hash Brown Heaven

    8 hash brown potato patties
    1 lb. hamburger.
    1 [16 oz.]bag frozen mixed vegetables[broccoli,carrots, etc.]
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
    cheddar cheese, grated

Grease a 9x13 pan. brown hamburger;drain. Line bottom of pan with hash brown patties;top with vegetables, then with hamburger. Mix soups together, adding enough liquid to thin slightly. Pour over ingredients in casserole. top with shredded cheese. Bake at 350 , covered, for 30 min., then covered for the last 15 min.

This was the one I found posted here and the one above is the one that I made. I don't think there is much you can do to mess this recipe up. I used a whole bag of cheese so I doubt you could add much more because it was packed on top. I don't see why you can't put the hashbrowns on top instead, if I did I think I would put the meat on the bottom. I hope I answered your questions?

Yum Shirley Girl! This sounds like something I could dig in to. Rich, creamy, cheesy....what's not to like?

Thanks for the recipe and Hugs to you dear friend,

Thank you, I appreciate it. I add garlic, or garlic powder to everything and always a dash of salt and fresh cracked pepper. Yum, can't wait to try it!

This sounds terrific.  One question--do you brown the patties first?  The ones I have a frozen and white......

PS--what do you think of either adding a can of French Onion Soup or dry onion soup with some water for one of the creamed soups.

My hashbrowns were frozen and I put them straight in the pan.

Barb sounds like you are on to something there. I love using the French Onion Soup in many dishes. Wish I could post all my recipes here but just can't sit here that long. Let me know if you try it and how it turns out.
