if you get to the store and aren't sure, just read the instructions, it should be talking about doing laundry, not cooking or cleaning the air in your refrig.

THERE IS A ARM AND HAMMER LAUNDARY DETERGENT.  I HAVE NEVER USED IT BUT MY SISTER USES IT ALL THE TIME AND HER CLOTHES COME OUT BRIGHT AND CLEAN

momsays-- my sil and my mom both have been using vinegar to whiten clothes. Mom has been using it for about 3 months. She uses 1 cup white vinegar in her washing machine. I think that the results could vary with the kind of detergent used as well. She uses All with stainlifter. I haven't tried it myself. I doubt that I could find anything other than bleach that would clean the messes that dh gets into. Always mud or grease somewhere and of course they end up on towels and washcloths.

Thank you for all the input.  I will try using a full cup of vinegar first as I get it really reasonable at Costco.  If that doesn't work, I'll look into the Arm and hammer WASHING soda.  I know there's something out there that has to work with out giving my son a rash.

Momsays, sorry, didn't get back here for a few days.  Just a busy time of year!

We live in Alberta where the prairie sun & breezes/winds are very nice for laundry.

I have allergies & DH asthma so we too are careful about what is used on laundry.

You might experiment putting a little plain mineral oil in your son's bathwater to help the itchies.

It's really a must for me & I wash my hair separate also since shampoo causes dry skin.  Like someone else said, fragrance is best avoided.

I can't vouch for the vinegar in the downey ball, but when I was research the homemade soap mixtures, and some people thought that it made their clothes dingy that was a suggestion.  It can't hurt to try.  Maybe in the rinse it helps get rid of some the soap residue or something.

I can vouch for the downey ball. I use vinegar in the rinse cycle as it does help rid the soap from the clothes. I fill the ball and toss it in that way I don't forget to add it while rinsing LOL. I've had wonderful luck using vinegar and hanging my clothes on the line to dry but in the winter when I have to use the dryer I don't have to use the dryer sheets hardly at all. The vinegar helps soften the clothes and reduces static. Good luck with this. I hope you get the same great results I do.
