Heads Up! Potatoes are getting very expensive

DH said today at Farmer's Market red potatoes were over $3 lb.  Anyone notice the price jump in potatoes?

I was at the Mennonite shop for milk yesterday and organic yukon golds were $1.49/lb. It's possible they could go up. My Aunt and Uncle run a potato farm in MO and depending on weather and flooding is what regulates their prices. That seems like a lot for potatoes. Did you know you could grow your own in old tires??? It's a stack method and you could get over 10 lbs per plant.

Thank goodness we planted our own.  In reality, we don't eat a lot of potatoes but I do love them at this time of year when they go straight from the ground into the pot.

Everything is going up. Eggs, milk, flour, potatoes. It is getting had to do or buy anything anymore. I honestly think we are headed for a Depression. Recession is coming to an end with the Depression right around the corner. Heard on the news they are talking about gas going up to $7.00 a gallon.

Depression is not half as bad as hyper inflation.

I got a bushel of red potatoes for 12.00 a couple of weeks ago. But in the stores they are like 2.99 a pound. I have got another bushel of peas coming in July that will give me 2 in the freezer just hope another storm doesn't come this year.

The thing about growing potatoes, you have to have a place to keep them once they are ready to be dug up.  DH suggested we get a small green house and plant vegetables so that one plant will be ready to harvest while another is still growing.   That may be in our future.  I hate gardening but it could become a have to job to be able to afford to eat healthy.

I may investigate the tire garden next year, I have my "raised beds" in big tractor tires.  Keeps the bunnies out!!!

A 15 lb bag of potatoes in Wyoming is $10. I'm just regretting not planting more than 4 potatoe plants.

I'm in Rock Springs. This was 4 weeks ago at the Smiths store here. Maybe it was marked wrong. But I thought that was a little pricey. I thought potatoes would be a little cheaper here, considering they don't have to go through too many states.
