    Re: Container Gardening

Grelo, will the potatoes grow here in Fort Lewis, WA?  I'm not sure what kind of sun they would need.  My yard doesn't see much due to the forest right out back.  I have a place in Spanaway that sells straw/hay.  The prices were on the sign one morning and they didn't seem too high at that point.  Of course, that was when gas was just below $4 per gallon.  I don't want to use tires or anything of that nature as housing is now handled by a contracted civilian company.  They are very STRICT and PARTICULAR about what you can and cannot do.  However, the totes would be acceptable as they are not even a semi-permanent installation.  I would really like to grow carrots and potatoes in them.  Would peas work with a trellis up behind them?  So many things are now off limits to me and I won't be growing zucchini.  Cucumbers and tomatoes are still two things I might try, but not until next summer.

Thanks again for everybody's input with my questions.
