    Quilter's Chat for July!

Well here we are ladies! It is July!

I have been working furiously on a quilt for a TOH BBer that I am going to meet on Thursday. I have been talking to her for almost 4 years! I get to meet her and another BBer on Thursday in Ma. We will be meeting at the Christmas Tree Shop in North Dartmouth, It is a 3 hour drive for me but I so want to meet her. I made a quilt for her and can not wait to give it to her. I was very depressed a couple years ago and she called me from Colorado just to talk to me and has been a friend ever since! That is why I love this BB!

Hope you all have a great July! Chris Geeked

It is hard to believe it is July already.

Chris How wonderful that you are going to meet someone you care about and who has been a great help to you. I bet she will love her quilt.

It is  Canada Day so a holiday for me. I spent most of my day cleaning as I have company coming on Saturday. I spent an hour quilting while I watched Dr. Phil. I will likely get some more done on it tonight since we don't plan on going into town and taking in the fire works or other intertainment.

Hard to believe it is already July. First thing you know the kids will be going back to school. I finally have my quilts on Photobucket, so will post my site. Marlene, my quilting frame is one that a friend found for me at a Yard sale last summer for $20. I quilted my first Log Cabin, my blue one, on a smaller circular frame on legs, but this is so much better. There is a picture with the frame on my site. It isn't a real sturdy frame but does work OK for me. My green and tan quilt was so large that my extension pole wasn't long enough, so my DH got two long metal conduit pipes that worked fine for that quilt. I had to tape the quilt on to them, but it wasn't a problem. My John Flynn booklet and Eleanor Burns book arrived last Friday and I have been pouring over both, trying to decide what I am going to do next. I think the John Flynn Wedding Ring will work, but will definitely have to watch what I am doing to get it right. Eleanor's book has so many nice patterns that I haven't decided what I will do for my boys. But have plenty of time. I'll send my Photobucket site in another post as I still can't get this to do paragraphs and it will be easier to read if I post it separately. .... Mary Jane

I still have not gotten my mother in-laws cat quilt done. It is now really late. I've been busy planting flowers and soon to be planting more grass. I've got to start doing Christmas presents too. My mom would love a quilted place mats and the such for her kitchen. My kids are also needed me to sew them bathrobs for the winter. There just isn't enough time. Starting next Wedensday night I'll be taking my first knitting class. I'm so excited!

MaryJane Your quilts are beautiful. One of these days I'm going to take the time and learn how to use photobucket.

Rachelle Enjoy your knitting. I love to knitt. I usually knitt in fairisle. I like to go in a circle and I don't like sewing knitting together. LOL  Sweater, mitts and socks are my favorite.  You will have to let us know how you make out.

Chris ... Yes, that's me in the picture. I mainly included the picture to show the frame I use, but it doesn't show up very well. Your comments about the quilts is really appreciated. Always good to hear something nice. Marlene ... I can't do Photobucket either. I did set up an account, but couldn't get it to work for me, so I had my son, who is out in Colorado, do it for me. Thanks for your comments, too. One thing I cannot do and that is knit. I can crochet but I have never been able to master knitting. I've never lived any place where I could find a class, so have tried to teach myself as I did crocheting. But just can't do it. ... Mary Jane

Chris Thanks for the picture. You will have to tell us which one is you.

MaryJane That is a good deal on a frame. I was using 1 x 2's and 4 C -clamps. I bought a Qsnap frame for the quilt I'm working on now.

I taught myself to crochet. I learned to knitt at a knitting class. Once I learned the basics I was able to learn other techniques from books. Knitting is great to take along. I also learned to tatt in a class but I haven't done any since. Can you tell I like to hang out in classes. LOL

Have a great July 4th. Enjoy all your celebrations.

    Re: Quilter's Chat for July!

Chris, I think it's wonderful that you were able to get together with others from here. Be sure to tell us who's who in the picture. What a great time you must have had. By the way, I think you said you were giving BJ a quilt and I know that she lives in the same town as my son in Colorado. So you and I will both have quilts just a few miles apart!!! We lived out there when he was in high school and I loved it. .... Marlene, I don't really go to yard sales very often unless I go with a friend, but have been told that quilting frames do show up occasionally. The one I have is a little flimsy but well worth the $20 I had to pay. As for knitting, I did manage to learn to cast on, but from there on I am all thumbs, then can't remember if I "went in behind the needle" or in front of it. I definitely need a class, then I can see what I do wrong. I really would love to know how. My mother taught me how to tat a million years ago, but would have to start over with that. ..... Weather has cleared here for the fireworks tonight, but we will stay home with our Boxer dog as he has such a fear of them. ... Mary Jane

    On the picture:

    From Left to right:

Marlene, Me (chris) BJ, Nicole (BJ's daughter) and My DH, Dan.

Hope that helps. I did post on my photobucket the quilt that I made for BJ! I am going to finish up 3 baby quilts today as I have only one more week until the fair. I will be the only quilter there as they have to be asked and they don't want a lot of the same stuff. they want all different so people will really look. Hope I do good! LOL I really can use the money this year to pay for fuel oil to heat this winter! whew is that gonna kill us or what, almost $5 a gallon and still going up! We are looking into alternative sources! Any suggestions? Chris

    Hi All

Chris Thanks for leting us know who is who in the pictures. It is so nice to have a face to put on someone you are talking to. I love the colours in your quilt too. Very pretty. I'm sure she loves it. We heat with electricity and supplement with a wood stove. The price of gas and deisel fuel is a killer for us. Since we farm it is hard to cut back to much. We are twenty miles to town so it is costing me alot to get back and forth to work. We do think twice before we go anywhere.

    Re: Quilter's Chat for July!

Chris ... glad you posted the names. I agree that it's nice to put faces to names. Then you know who you are talking to. I know BJ will love the quilt. It looks really nice and has a warm look to it. .... And good luck at the Fair. Hope you sell everything you take. .... I think we are all going to be trying to figure out what to do about heat, etc., this winter. We have gas heat and have a 100-plus year old two story house. Fortunately, there are separate furnaces for each floor and we will probably shut the one upstairs down low and sleep downstairs. We usually do that in the coldest months anyway since there is just the two of us. But even just heating one level will be expensive this winter. Our DS that lives in Montana says his cost of gas has already doubled and he is concerned about how he is going to pay heating bills this winter. It is not unusual for him to have spells of 20 to 30 below zero where he lives. We've suggested that he winterize his place and come here for the winter. I have a feeling there will be a lot of moving in and sharing expenses among people. Gotta pay those bills somehow. ...Mary Jane
