    Healthy Choices, July 15, 2008

Good morning all...and where is our Viny today?  I can't believe I'm first.

I have not heard from Marti despite leaving messages on both her home phone and her cell phone.  I'm really concerned.  I don't know which hospital Joe is in either.

Still hot here.  My contractor is working on the fence now...the part that nearly blew down with the big winds we had a few weeks back.  Also he will make the gates work better.  The patio door screens are to be hung today and any finishing work with the trim will be done...then I can get the painter back over here to finish up the trim painting and to touch up here and there.

Got lots going on today.  I'll check back later.

Hello everyone.  I sure hope Marti checks in with us.  It is indeed very worrisome that she is not responding to Verna's calls, but I am sure there is a good reason for that.

Don't know how I have gotten myself so busy, but I  seem to be running in circles here.   Got my sofa cushion covers yesterday.  I am really happy with them.  Except that now I want 2 new arm chairs and a smaller sofa, too!

DH's sister is downsizing and wants to give her loom to me.  I have always wanted to learn how to weave.   But I have no place for it, not to mention time!

My journaling lasted 4 days, and then I got sidetracked.   Gotta get back to it, as I was feeling so much more energetic.

Our youngest DS got his driver's license yesterday.  Now I have to train him how to use our car, as he has only driven the driving school's car.   Went out today, and I was surprised how well he is doing.   Actually much better than I remember older DS a couple of years ago.  Or maybe I have already experienced the nerves???

Anyway, off for another driving session.   lusi

    Update on Joe..

Just talked to Marti...she sounds worn out.  Joe's defibrillator fired Sunday and they ended up in the hospital in Greenville.  Doctors are still trying to get things sorted out but he is feeling some better.  They may need to make an adjustment on the defibrillator.  His electolytes were off and his heart rate was up.  Got those things corrected now.

For you non-medical people, the defibrillator recognizes irregular heart rhythms and will shock the heart as needed.  It's like the shock paddles that you see them use on the medical shows only his is much smaller and is implanted into his body.  It's what they are doing when they holler "clear" or "stand clear".  His magnesium and potassium levels (some of the electrolytes) were off...can be caused by dehydration etc and those were replenished as needed.  The heart rate was brought under control by an IV drip of medication.

OK...enough nursing now.  Got a load of clothes to fold.

Thanks so much, Vammie, for the update on Joe. It sounds like they are getting things under control. I guess he's lucky the defib fired to adjust his heart rate.

Just had a minute to check in, but will be back later.

Take care everyone and God bless. Jo Ann

Verna, thanks for letting us know about Marti and Joe.

I know she is worried sick about him so glad he is starting to feel a bit better.

It's busy here with family in and out.   2 of the GDs are here and the baby....as well as sis and niece.  We haven't done anything exciting.  Mostly just eat and visit.

I am so looking forward to some cool weather.  I  just can't seem to get myself to exercise in this heat and with company here, I always choose to do other things.

I'll check back when I can.

Good Afternoon!   Sure hope it doesn’t rain here, but it’s not looking so good.   I have garlic that is pulled up and drying and I need to get it somewhere that the rain can’t touch it.   I really don’t feel like going out in this weather till much later.   It is only in low 90’s but feels much worse with some humidity.   Whatever it is, my body doesn’t like it.

Verna, sounds like maybe you won’t have so many frustrations with the house if you get some of this finish work done.   I’m so glad you talked to Marti.   You were right on with the electrolytes – think you said that some time back.

Lusi, you sound like you’re having fun with the youngest DS driving.   Brings back many memories.   I have a friend who weaves on her loom, but she is not working and finds the time to do it.   She also raises some sheep so she cleans and finishes her own wool.   She used to live by me in Ca. and we were involved in 4H teaching at the time.   She now lives in a rural area out of NY.

You are busy, Barb.   And here I’m lazying around this afternoon.   I find if I don’t walk in the early morning there is no chance I’ll do it later.   For one, I’d be crazy to do it in the heat and then when it finally cools down, I think it’s too close to bed time.   I’ve read not to exercise any closer than 3 hrs before bed.

I’m doing pretty good on the journaling – not as perfect as in the beginning but ok.   And I’m keeping up with the walking.   Good exercise workout in Prevention using the large exercise ball for your belly.   Boy, do I ever need something like that.  Where is that ball?

I need to make a short run down to the local market and also freeze some chicken I bought.   I’ve got a roast cooking for tomorrow and dinner for tonight is done, so not bad.

We have so much fruit in this house – pineapple, watermelon, grapes and the usual apples and oranges.   Better move that garlic, just in case.
