Receipe & Review: Gaudrey's Cobbler Cake, Yummy!

okay, if anyone has ever fixed one of Grace's recipes they know there isn't any need to read any further except just to get the recipe!  This was excellent!  And super easy.  The only hard thing about this was using the oven as hot as its been here in MO!  Wink

Thank you Grace for such an excellent recipe and so diverse!  DH asked that next time he would like to try it with Apple Pie filling!  And we have talked about how picky he is!  LOL!

I made this at my DS's BBQ and she was standing there watching and told me she was afraid it would be too dry.  You know older siblings always knows more than little sis!  Wink  She has had desserts like this before and they were dry, she says.  I told her "Yeah, but this is from one of my TOH buds, just wait and we will see".  She loved it, my BIL had 3 bowlfuls and my DD made sure we brought what little was left, home with us!  hahaha!

    Cobbler Cake

1 box yellow butter cake mix

2 cans fruit pie filling of your choice

    2 sticks butter, melted

1/2 c or so of nuts

Heat oven to 350. Spread the pie filling into a 9x13 baking dish. Sprinkle the dry cake mix over the top to completely cover the pan. Melt the butter and pour over the top. Sprinkle the nuts on top of that. Bake for about 30-40 minutes until golden around the edges. This is awesome served warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Thanks for the nice review, Amy. Now maybe big sis will admit little sis knows how to cook some good stuff. LOL  Apple Pie filling is good and you may even decide you want to use 2 different flavors. One of the most popular mixtures I've used for pot luck meals is 1 can of Apple Pie Filling combined with 1 Can of Blueberry Pie Filling, and 1 can of crushed pineapple scattered over that. I drain the crushed pineapple some so it is not TOO moist. Another way to vary it is to omit the cake mix and put a layer of sliced commercial cookie dough on top as the crust. Brush that with melted butter and sprinkle with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Yummy good!

I have used a recipe like this with rhubarb from my garden.  My family was shocked at how good it was.  Excellent with ice cream.

Well, that is old age for you. You can't hear sounds that everyone else can hear and you can hear sounds that no one else can hear. Not really a bit problem until you begin to hear voices that no one else hears.

Hi Miss Amy! That sounds delicious...I make a version with blueberries that I just posted, so maybe with both of us telling everyone how good they are, they'll try them if they haven't!

Thank you for the review and Miss Grace for another killer good recipe.

Thank you Grace for the revised recipe....I added it to the original one that I have saved to my puter.  And can't wait to try it that way now!  LOL!

Hey Kathy!  I can't wait to make more of Grace's recipes!  There isn't enough holidays or cookouts for all the recipes I want to try!  hahaha!

Hi deranger, oh my gosh, Rhubarb would be YUM!  Rhubarb is my fav.  I would eat it still in the stalk if I could!  Its soo good I had to capitalize the word!  Thank you for the idea!

Howdy Star!  If people knew how good and easy this dessert is I'm betting the stores would find it hard to keep pie filling in stock....my store is going to anyway!  Its easy to throw together if unexpected company arrives!  Or a last minute invite to a cookout.

Thanks you guys for complimenting my review.  I do believe this is only my second review.  My first would have been Star's Peanut Butter Pie which would of been a few years ago.....I'm gonna have to step on it and start cooking/reviewing.  Its fun!

Grace, does it have to be a butter cake mix or can just a yellow one work? Thanks Cindy

Any cake mix you like is fine. I have used yellow, white, and even fruit flavored ones - lemon, pineapple, strawberry - whatever will go well with the pie filling you choose. Try Cherry Pie filling with a chocolate cake mix for a Black Forrest Cobbler. People who like chocolate go nuts over this.

We have made this type cake in our dutch ovens while camping for over 50 years.  They were  known as dump cakes as everything was just dumped in the oven.  The apple goes good with spice cake instead of the yellow. Sometimes I even sprinkle a little brown sugar on top of the cakes.  When we just make a regular cake we lightly grease or spray oil on the pan or kettle bottom and sides and sprinkle it with sugar. This gives a good release and makes the edge or corner cuts the best pieces. works much better than flouring the pan, and doesn't burn.
