    Wednesday: What's Cookin' (Aug. 20, 08)(6:50 a.m.)

    Good Morning,

It's 63 out and to get to the mid 70's and a 60% chance of rain.  I do hope we get some.

The guys had a blast last night with their first bowling game.  We were all laughing and having a great time.  None of them are great bowlers, but had lots of fun.

Mikki, our youngest granddaughter turns 10 today.  Jim and I just talked to her on the phone before he left for work.   She will have a Hawaiian Luau b-day party Saturday.

Even if Jim doesn't make it home for lunch today, I'll make spicy bacon cheeseburger roll up for lunch.  He can have it heated over for supper if he doesn't make it for lunch.

Need to get in to do my 2 mile walking DVD.

    Enjoy this beautiful day.

    CHILD'S PRAYER

Dear God, are You still awake?

Have You got a minute or two?

    You're pretty good at understanding

and I really need to talk to you

You see, Mommy came to tuck me in,

    Like she does every night.

I was trying to play a trick on her,

Since she can't see without the light.

I was going to close my eyes

    And pretend to be asleep.

But when I heard her crying,

    I didn't dare let out a peep.

She started talking to you, God.

Did You hear the things she said?

Could You hear what she was saying

As she stood beside my bed?

Why would Mommy be so sad?

I wondered just what I had done,

And then I began to remember it all

As she named them one by one...

This morning we worked in the g garden,

But, honest, I really didn't know

That if I picked all those little yellow! blooms

    the tomatoes wouldn't grow!

Charlie and I were trying to be helpers,

Cause I know that's what Mommy needs,

But I don't think she was too happy with us

When we pulled up carrots instead of weeds.

Mommy said we should stop for the day,

She decided we had helped quite enough.

I sure had worked up an appetite...

I didn't know gardening was so tough!

We had peanut-butter and jelly for lunch

And I shared too much, I guess...

But I didn't realize until I was done

that Charlie had made such a mess.

Mommy said she needed a nap,

She had one of her headaches today.

She told me to keep an eye on my sister

and find something quiet to play.

Well, God, do You remember all those curls

You gave my little sister Jenny?

    We played barber shop...very quietly...

And now, well, she doesn't have any.

Boy, was Mommy mad at me...I had to go sit on my bed.

She said never to cut! "people's hair" again.

    I guess I'll practice on Charlie instead. < BR>

We sat and watched poor old Albert,

I just knew he must be so bored

Going round and round in the same place all day,

    Wouldn't You think so, Lord?

I didn't think it would hurt

To let him out for a while.

I mean, mice need exercise, too.

By the way, have You seen Albert lately?

He's been sort of missing since two.

Mommy sent us outside for the rest of the day.

She said we needed fresh air.

But when Daddy came home she told him

She was trying to get something out of her hair.

We thought Mommy needed cheering up,

So we decided to brighten her day.

But, God, did You see the look on her face

when we gave her that pretty bouquet?

We had gotten a little bit dirty,

So Mommy said to get in the tub "Use soap this time,"

she reminded, “And please don't forget to scrub." !

Charlie didn't like the water too much,

But I lathered up real good.

I knew Mommy would be so proud of m! e

For cleaning up like I should.

I went downstairs to the table,

But during dinner it started to rain...

I'd forgotten to turn off the water, it seems,

And I hadn't unplugged the drain!

I decided right then it was just about time

To start getting ready for bed,

When Mommy said, "It's sure been a long day,"

And her face began turning all red.

I lay there listening to Mommy

As she told You about our day.

I thought about all of the things I had done

And I wondered what I should say.

I was just about to tell her

That I'd been awake all along,

And ask her to please forgive me

For all of those things I'd done wrong.

When suddenly, I heard her whisper,

    "God, forgive me for today...

    For not being more understanding

When those problems came my way...

For not handling situations in the way

You wanted me to... for getting angry

    And losing my temper,

Things I know! You don't want me to do.

And, God, please give me more patience,

Help me make it through another day,

I'll do better tomorrow I promise...

    In Jesus' name I pray."

Wiping her eyes, she kissed me

And knelt here beside my bed.

She stroked my hair for a little while...

"I love you, precious," Mommy said.

She left the room without ever knowing

That I'd been awake all the time.

And God, could we make it our little secret?

You know, just Yours and mine?

I'm sorry I was so much trouble today,

I really didn't mean to be...

Daddy says, "It's tough being a kid sometimes,

But I think it's harder on Mommy than me.

    Well, goodnight, God.

    Thanks for listening.

It's sure nice to know You're there.

I feel so much better when I talk to You

'Cause You always hear my prayer.

And I'll do better tomorrow, I promise...

    Just You wait and see!

I'll try not to be much trouble again,

But, God, Please give more patience to Mommy.

    Just in case! Amen.

Lord, I love you and I need you,

come into my heart, and bless me, my family,

my home, and my friends, please.

    Morning to all,

We had such a good visit with son and family. They left yesterday. Dinner was a box mix of Kraft chicken noodle dinner. That was DH's request, he had a cavity filled, so had to eat soft food. He is working tonight so I will have leftovers for my dinner.

We actually have a different forecast...70% chance of rain and a high of 84.

Hope Mikki has a fabulous day. I know she will be looking forward to that party.

    Have a great day!

    Tammy

She is so funny.  We get the biggest kick out of her.

Yesterday when I went with them to take the girls to school, when I went in the house she said "Nana, this is my last day to be 9, tomorrow I'll be double digit".

She just thinks it's so cool to be double digits now.

    They grow up fast.

We have a chance for some rain as well, it'd be nice to get some. Mid 80's here again today...it's such a nice change from the normal August temps.

DD's boyfriend is coming over afterschool and staying for supper, we'll have eggplant lasagna since he doesnt eat meat....

Its sunny but quite cool in NY today....just 59' at the moment.

I have a batch of bread rising on the counter and am getting ready to grind some ham and pork to make PADutch Glazed Ham Balls for supper.

Will have Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans with it, along with a fresh Blueberry Buckle for dessert.

This afternoon I am having company. My 8 year old niece is coming to spend the afternoon.

DW is working days, so I took three quick lessons in running the DVD player last night in case we want to watch a movie. I'm so proud of myself....I can operate it now! LOL

    Love one another,

    FG

It's almost like fall today.  61 out.  Sun is shining, so expect it will be warmer later.  They say it will be lovely all week.  It's really beginning to feel like fall.

Foodguy--glad you learned to run the DVR--probably your 8 year old neice already knows how to operate it--but you see now you can watch a movie when you are all by yourself......

Made s Banana Cranberry Nut Bread yesterday to take with us to NH,  but just did not look right, so cut it and it was ok, but little dry.  Made another one today with a new can of Baking Powder and it was fine--we'll eat the not too good one and take the good one with us.

Wasn't it nice the Johnson girl won the gold last night.  The two girls are such good friends and now they both have a gold.  I still think there is some funny stuff going in with the judging--again that Chinese girl had so many deductions and still got a bronze--weird.  That Nastia (?)  is so graceful, isn't she.....she just looks like she is floating on that beam with those nice long legs.

Have a good one all.           Barb

It was wonderful seeing both girls win medals last night.

I can't work our DVR.  We have 2 of them.

    GRRRR.

I think since I have flour out on the counter, I'll just make Jim a cherry pie (a huge surprise for him).  He LOVES cherry pie.  Not one of my favorites.

Good morning CK and others.  I read this every day but rarely post.  Well...today I have a need.  I have a small carton of blueberries and two very ripe bananas.  I'd like to make a banana blueberry muffin recipe...but I don't have one.  I'd also like to include bran in the muffin.  Do any of you have a muffin recipe that uses bran, bananas and blueberries?  TIA!

     Hi Vammie,

Glad to see you posting.  Hoping others will have a recipe for you.

I just pulled a cherry pie out of the oven.  I'm going to have one very happy husband

We finally got rain.  Over 1/2".  Only 66, unreal.

    Good Morning.

It was only 70 here yesterday.  Nice change.  Today will most likely be warmer.

We are having bbque pork sandwiches for dinner.  I will make some type of salad and we will have chips, too.

CK, do you use frozen cherries for your pie?  That is one pie I have never made, but would love to.  Fresh cherries would be a pain to pit.

    Have a great day.

    Re: Wednesday: What's Cookin' (Aug. 20, 08)(6:50 a.m.)

Good morning!  We have no overcast today, just bright blue skies, so I suspect our temps will be warming up this afternoon.

Our dinner tonight will be grilled salmon (DH's new favorite), ranch beans, corn, and applesauce.

I made a peach pie for my brother from some peaches he gave me, which he loved, but I thought it was way too runny.  Haven't had that problem before -- I use cornstarch as a thickener.  Any suggestions/recommendations?

The furniture changes continue -- we're getting a sofa (with recliners at the ends) from a friend who is getting a new one -- her boys will deliver it today or tomorrow.  Now that I've made a decision on carpet for the living room, I need to actually get it installed, so that we can move some of the furniture, including the piano, into there.  Also having a recumbent bike delivered sometime this week (in hopes of getting more exercise in spite of foot problems) so we'll have to make room for that too.  Just about the time I get everything in place, I'll have to start thinking about where to put the Christmas trees!

    Have a wonderful Wednesday.
