BACON WRAPPED BRUSSELS SPROUTS -Southern Living

    Yield

Makes about 6 to 8 appetizer servings

    Ingredients

    • 10  bacon slices
    • 10  Brussels sprouts
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • Creamy Mustard Sauce

    Preparation

Preheat oven to 400°. Microwave bacon slices, in batches, between paper towels, at HIGH for 1 1/2 minutes. Cut slices in half crosswise. Cut Brussels sprouts in half lengthwise. Wrap 1 bacon piece around each Brussels sprout half; secure with a wooden pick. Place sprouts, cut sides down, on a lightly greased wire rack on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with pepper to taste. Bake at 400° for 20 to 25 minutes or until bacon is crisp and Brussels sprouts are tender. Serve with Creamy Mustard Sauce, if desired.

Creamy Mustard Sauce: Stir together 1/2 cup sour cream, 2 tsp. whole grain mustard, 1 tsp. brown sugar, and salt and pepper to taste in a bowl. Makes 1/2 cup. Prep: 5 min.

This arrived in my November Issue of Southern Living and caught my attention immediately .
A blending of Crisp and Salty (Bacon) wrapped around one of my Favorite Vegetables -Served with a Creamy Sauce.

I bet it looks very pretty on a Platter with the Sauce in the Center.

Simple too. IMHO what's not to like. My only concern would be if I needed tp partially cook the sprouts in water first. I would try it as posted first though, since it does seem ample time to bake 1/2 of a Brussels Sprout and Impart the Bacon Flavor to it~ Alliea

Yumm! These do sound good.  Forget them as an appetizer - I'd have to make more to serve with dinner!  The time frame does sound like they should cook through, especially since they are cut in half.  I love roasted brussels sprouts and the bacon is an added bonus.  Not sure if I'd par-boil the sprouts first for just a few minutes - I'm leaning toward par-boiling.

Thank you for posting the recipe, Alliea.  They sound fantastic!!

    Wasabi Mayonnaise Dip -AvidcookGa

     1 cup mayonnaise

     4 teaspoons soy sauce

    1 1/2 teaspoons sugar

    2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

    2 teaspoons wasabi paste

Whisk together mayonnaise, soy sauce, sugar, lemon juice, and wasabi paste until sugar is dissolved.  Serve asparagus with dip.

I'd love to also serve Avidcook's dip that Jillie mentioned to me a little while ago. Maybe The Brussels, Asparugus and the 2 sauces/Dips. I think that would make a nice platter.~ Alliea

This is really delicious! Even people who don't like asparagus ate it because they loved the dip so much. Next time I will serve this with lots of different raw veggies. (Avidcook)

    Asparagus with Wasabi Mayonnaise Dip

You can substitute wasabi powder for the wasabi paste in this recipe, but we find that the paste imparts a fresher flavor. Force the wasabi powder through a very fine sieve before using. (I use the wasabi paste.) 3 pounds thin to medium asparagus, trimmed 1 cup mayonnaise 4 teaspoons soy sauce 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar 2

     teaspoons fresh lemon juice

2 teaspoons wasabi paste Blanch asparagus in 2 batches in a large saucepan of boiling salted water 1 minute. Transfer to a colander and rinse under cold running water to stop cooking. Drain well and pat dry. Whisk together mayonnaise, soy sauce, sugar, lemon juice, and wasabi paste until sugar is dissolved.  Serve asparagus with dip.

I do love that dip Alliea, but I think your mustard sauce would be a better choice. I love the 2 combinations. (I have a side dish with the 2)

Did I miss your review on Avidcook's recipe? Ain't it great!?

I have not tried it yet Jillie But it sounded so wonderful. I am definitely not passing that one up.I think it can be very versatile.

Janie- I am thinking Fried green Beans or Depos strings with the Wasabi also.

We had these with our dinner today, and they were delicious!  I had them ready in the morning, so at suppertime it was so easy to just put them in the oven.  This is a great recipe to make ahead.  There was some concern whether the sprouts should be par-boiled.  Well, they don't need to be.  I left them in the oven maybe for 30 minutes and they were just right.  Thanks for the recipe!
