    Bacon Water Chestnut Wraps

The holidays around the house just wouldn't be the same without these classic wraps. Through the years, Christmas Eve guests have proven it's impossible to eat just one. —Laura Mahaffey, Annapolis, Maryland

Here is another version of this recipe that I make very often. Soak the water chestnuts in soya sauce, then wrap with a half slice of uncooked bacon, secure with a toothpick and put under the broiler until the bacon is nice and crispy.

I have made these for at least 20 years now. The only thing different is I wrap the chestnuts with the bacon, then bake them for about 30 to 40 minutes or until almost cooked. I drain off all the grease and then pour the sauce on. I also cut my bacon into thirds instead of halves.

I make this recipe often, but

    use pre-cooked bacon. Works

    great, and less messy.

I make these, but use one can of whole water chestnuts and one can of pineapple chunks. Guests love the combination and unless you look hard, you never know which you'll get! Like Ann, I bake first, drain off grease, then add the sauce (though my sauce is a little different) and even cut the bacon into fourths at times.

My family has made these for over 40 years on every holiday. Rather than adding a sauce, we put out little bowels of Soy Sauce to dunk them in.

These are our favorite appetizer! In fact, we will be making them for a upcoming holiday party.

They are slightly labor intensive, but I have found that they freeze well. After baking, cover and freeze. When ready to serve, defrost and reheat in oven or crock pot.

Instead of cooking the bacon first, it's easier to wrap the uncooked bacon around the chestnuts, then bake for about 20 minutes. In the meantime, make your sauce, and after the first baking, drain grease, and then pour sauce over all and bake another 20 minutes.

This is a different take on a recipe we've been using for years. We use an orange juice/soy/honey based sauce, and they come out terrific!

    Re: Bacon Water Chestnut Wraps

Made these for the first time for my writers group Christmas party last night, and they were a big hit. To save a bit of time, I used microwave bacon which, since it's precooked, cut out the frying step. Worked wonderfully. And the sauce is a great spicy kick. I'm thinking of using it in other recipes.
