Do you hear from some people only at Christmas?

I get a few cards from family members and acquaintances, that you only hear from at Christmas. What is weird is some is just a card with their name signed. Nothing more. Now granted the thought is nice. BUT! When you can't talk to them any other time of the year, how comes it has to be at Christmas you hear from them? It would be nice if you could learn more about what is happening to them in the card. Some do and many do not. I am to the point the last couple years and this year inparticular, I am just not sending to every Tom, ***, and Harry that is in the family. Who sends you a card because they want to and I know out of kindness you should send one back. But I am quitting more and more on doing that. Personally I think it's ridicolous to send a card with just a name to someone you never hear from any other time.

Totally agree.  If I am not worthy of your thoughts the rest of the year, don't bother to remember me during the holidays.  And that goes for my funeral as well... don't come to grieve for me after I'm dead if you don't rejoice with me while I'm alive!  It's as simple as that.

 I agree that you certainly don't need to feel obligated to spend the time and money sending a return card to someone who only signs their name.  I do try to make each card personal if I think the recipient is interested enough to read what I have to say.  I usually don't just sign my name unless I send the card only under obligation, or if I see the person often enough that they know what is going on in our lives.

I like getting cards even if it is just a signed name. They thought of me enough to send me one. Many send picture cards so I at least get to see a picture.

I agree if the card is just signed with no other detail. But most of those from whom I hear on Christmas only always enclose a personal note or holiday letter. Our day-to-day lives may not intersect, but we still care about each other and want to know that everyone is well. Staying in touch is a good thing because -- who knows? -- your lives may intersect again, and keeping the relationship going will help that rekindling of friendship.

The Christmas card mailing is a welcomed ritual that helps keep us all in touch.

I get cards like that with only the name signed even though I haven't talked to the person in years. I decided that I'm not sending cards out this year for that reason. At least put a short note in the card.

I envision someone just "getting the job done" by addressing a card to me and signing it. Doesn't make sense.

 I hear ya.....I have the problem with 2  we only hear from them at christmas and it's the christmas letter...talking about folks we don't even KNOW....like who the heck is Aunt Flo???? lol

I would think Aunt Flo would be a topic best left undiscussed in a Christmas letter! LOL!!

Receiving a Christmas card means a lot to me, even if it contains no more than a signature.  I know that everyone is busy these days, and rarely are any of us able to accomplish all that we would like to.  So when someone takes the time to address a card to me and drop it in the mail, it sends the message that I am in their thoughts.  Until we are able to find the time to spend time catching up with one another, that small message is enough to warm my heart. 

I wouldn't dream of insisting on all or nothing.

I usually try to write something to everyone.  However, I love receiving cards and I don't mind if all I get is a signature.  It is the thought that counts.  I really do enjoy getting the Christmas Newsletters that some send. 

i have a friend who sends me a christmas card and a letter to give me updates on the family..and she doesn't celebrate christmas..because i do..she always sends me a pretty card...i have a childhood friend who sends me pictures of her kids..i look forward to both..

Most of our Christmas cards are from people we don't hear from during the rest of the year.  I don't think we get any that only have a signature...most of them have a nice long letter included in the card so we can catch up since the previous year.
