So what do you all think about the fact that Chavez called Obama,  "a poor ignoramous, who needs to read more about Latin America" ?

Oh no!  He called him a name?  Well.  We'd better start dropping bombs.  Oh, and we'll have to bomb Italy and France too, as their leaders have also said less than flattering things about our president.

A true leader finds a way to work with even those (or maybe especially those) who don't admire him or agree with him.

Just as on this board, talking to someone, and even being polite, doesn't mean you agree with them.  It doesn't mean you won't try to persuade them to see things your way.  Rather the opposite.

I agree. Come on. What was he supposed to do? Put his nose in the air and turn away. Its a handshake between two people. Anything else would have been rude. And that's not the message we want to send to the rest of the world.

    My thoughts exactly.

LP during his campaign Senator Obama made this statemet.

I also share with Armenian Americans – so many of whom are descended from genocide survivors - a principled commitment to commemorating and ending genocide. That starts with acknowledging the tragic instances of genocide in world history. As a U.S. Senator, I have stood with the Armenian American community in calling for Turkey's acknowledgement of the Armenian Genocide. Two years ago, I criticized the Secretary of State for the firing of U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, John Evans, after he properly used the term "genocide" to describe Turkey's slaughter of thousands of Armenians starting in 1915. I shared with Secretary Rice my firmly held conviction that the Armenian Genocide is not an allegation, a personal opinion, or a point of view, but rather a widely documented fact supported by an overwhelming body of historical evidence. The facts are undeniable. An official policy that calls on diplomats to distort the historical facts is an untenable policy. As a senator, I strongly support passage of the Armenian Genocide Resolution (H.Res.106 and S.Res.106), and as President I will recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Yet when the man met with President Abdullah of Turkey he flatly REFUSED to do so.If you believe something as strongly as he said he did in January of last year he shoudl have taken the opportunity present by the reporter to talk about it. Either he does not or he is a coward who will not stand up to his principals.

Personally I do not consider genocide a "narrow focused special interest topic"To deny it as such is no different than those who would deny the holocaust. President Obama has a history of siding with people who believe in genocide (such as the example I posted in LA) and I again do not find that a "narrow focused special interest topic." However the very fact that you do says an awful lot about you.

This is nto about a mere handshake. This is about how he repeatedly bows (literally and figuratively) to those who believe in genocide. yes I find that to be of GREAT interest.

cooking, look at yourself. You're so obsessed with hate that it's eating you alive. Seriously, if bows and handshaking are your deal-breakers, I expect Obama's term will keep you busy dredging through the bottom of barrels looking for something -- anything -- that will shore up all this rage.

I'm sorry, but you'll just  have to live with your self righteous indignation, I just don't share the sheer intensity of your resentment over something that happened in a foreign country over 100 years ago. There are quite enough things going on this country right now to hold all of my attention, thank you,  so I'll leave all the teeth gnashing and head shaking to you.

I won't buy gas from Citgo.  My understanding is that Chavez owns the company.  I will not do anything to support a dictator.

A "dictator"… wherever did you learn that?

Venezuela is a parliamentary democracy, and Hugo Chávez was popularly elected President in 1998, and re-elected in 2000, and again by a wide margin in 2006 with over 60% of the vote.

Citgo is a US incorporated, petroleum company owned by the state of Venezuela, i.e., that being the Venezuelan people who are all *shiver* scary socialists. The company is headquartered in Houston with refineries in Texas, Louisiana and Illinois, and employees over 4,000 people.

So you "won't buy gas from Citgo" because you want to somehow punish Hugo Chávez, who is the three time, the duly elected president of Venezuela, or you want to hurt the American workers employed at Citgo?

    I'm so confused...

You're confused all right.  I've lived under socialism and I want no part of it.
