    R&R ~ Another Side ~ Old settlers Baked Beans ~ *****

This is a repost of one of my very first posts back in 04~  This without a doubt is one of my very favorite baked bean recipes.  I think Idea The  origional recipe may have came from Old Yanakee Magazine as I had it many years before posting on the Board??   Since then it has cropped up everywhere.  This one I printed out from Recipezaar.  Mr calls it Bean Chili, as it is extremely thick!`  The first time I brought this to a family gathering everyone was trying to figure out what the secret ingredient was ~ with 4 different types of beans it's hard to pick it out.   Its  Ground Beef ~  I use way less then the recipe calls for as I do want this to remain all about Beans and not Chili ~  I also add some chopped green pepper .  Its a very adaptable recipe you can bump up or bump off any of the spices listed ~  and yes Chopped Jalapenos will work very nicely for the hotties.  I also down play the both sugar just a litte.  But all in all it is one very tasty ~ Huge Pot of   BB's  ~  Janie ~

    Old Settlers  Baked Beans

    Ingredients

    1 pound of ground beef

1/2 pound of bacon ( use less) cooked and crumbled

    1 onion chopped

1/3 cup each brown sugar and white sugar  (use less)

    1/4 cup ketchup

    1/4 cup barbecue sauce

2 Tbs each molasses or Karo syrup ( Use pure Maple syrup)  and Mustard ( I use spicy brown )

1/2 tsp each chili powder and pepper

1 tsp salt ( do not use)

1 can each ~  Baked Beans, Red Kidney Beans,  Baby Butter Beans and White Beans.

    *  I drain and rinse all of the beans except, for the pork and beans and I use  a large can of pork and beans and the same sized cans for all of the others ( medium sized cans )

Brown the beef and onion.  Drain  Put into  a large bowl and add all of the  sugars, ketchup, barbecue sauce, molasses, mustard and spices.  Mix well.  Add all of the beans. Place in a large casserole and bake at 350 for about an hour.  I leave them covered for 30 minutes then uncover the last 20 minutes.

You are welcome.  I went searching for the origional post under jcz04 and darn I couldn't find it ~  I am sure that, this is the same one ~  It tastes the same and I remember the long list of Ingredients.  and I know I didn't have a computer when I was making the recipe.  That's how long I've had it ~  Like many lost ones It's burried somewhere ~  One of these days I'll come across it ~  Janie ~  it is very hearty ~

I have been making this exact recipe for about the past 30 yrs. Sometimes I sub leftover chopped pork roast or chops/beef roast, use ground turkey (lighter healthier fare).

These have become our favorite baked beans. We make them in large batches, vacuum seal and freeze.
