Going to a party and need a recipe suggestion

I'm going to a casual party on the 16th and they're serving Chinese food (they're Chinese) and also barbeque....so what should I bring?  Any good ideas as to what would go well?  Should I make a coleslaw or other side-type salad?  I never made one and would like it to be something different and special, if possible.  Anybody got any ideas?

Coleslaw goes well with b-b-q, and there's a coleslaw recipe on the home page you can try - looks good.

I just saw an episode of the best of diners, drive ins and dives last night and Guy was showing how he made his JackA$$ rolls....he used tapioca paper (not the seaweed wrap but it's white and thin and roundish), put sushi rice on it, avocado slices and bbq pulled pork. Roll it up tight and slice it like sushi! Sounds great and I think you'll get the best of both parts of your party.

Of course if you lived near me I could decorate you up a beautiful cake....Wink

This is simple and easy and impressive. Perfect for your party

    1 Can red salmon
    8 oz Cream cheese
    6 oz Sour cream
    Juice of 1-1/2 lemons
    Pepper to taste
    Parsley for garnishing

    How to make Salmon Mousse:
Drain the salmon. Remove skin and bones.
Mix all the ingredients (except sour cream) in a food processor till smooth.
    Place it into a bowl.
Now cover it with sour cream.
    Decorate with parsley.
Keep it into the refrigerator until set.
Serve Salmon Mousse with unsalted crackers.

Right now, I am hooked on a banana, strawberry, and blueberries in strawberry glaze. They had the bananas and glaze at a Chinese restaurant , and  I decided to add the strawberries and blueberries. I took them to our picnic yesterda, and it went over good. I put more glaze on my than at the Chinese Res. Maybe not fancy enough?

There is a slaw-type recipe floating around the world that uses Ramen Noodles.  I've never made it (and don't have the recipe) but I see it at a lot of pot luck picnics, and it always seems to "go."  Someone here is bound to have it or has already posted it...

This is really good and it keeps with the Chinese food theme.  My friend has made it several times...I've just never gotten around to it myself.

    ORIENTAL COLE SLAW

1 (16 oz.) bag cabbage slaw
2 pkg. Ramen Noodles, chicken or oriental flavor, uncooked
    3 scallions, chopped
    ½ cup sugar
    ½ cup vinegar
    ¼ cup salad oil
1 cup cashew halves or pieces
    1 cup sunflower seeds

Two hours before serving, break up Ramen Noodles in a large bowl. Reserve seasoning packets. Toss cabbage with noodles & scallions. Whisk together sugar, vinegar, oil & seasoning packets. Pour over salad. Mix well, cover & refrigerate for 2 hours. Just before serving, stir in cashews and sunflower seeds. (This is best the day it is made.)

Thank you to everybody for the suggestions and recipes!  They all sound great! I think I will file away the salmon mousse recipe for sure, love that one.  The two oriental slaw recipes sound perfect for this menu!  If I can find the broccoli slaw in the market, I will make that one, but they both sound delicious.  Thank you so much!  I will bring it in a big glass bowl and call it a day.  I'm not in a baking mood this time!  LOL

I appreciate all the responses  Smile

    Sharon,

If you go over to the prepared salads in the bags you will find broccoli slaw or party slaw in the bags.  Hope all is well with you and your husband.  I have not forgotten about the corset.  I hope to be prepared to buy at the end of the summer.  Take care!

PS  I always use a bit of sesame oil in the chinese salads posted.

Thanks Tootie...I've got sesame oil and I agree that it would be a nice flavor addition.
