    De-Stink Recipe Amazed Me Again

Every time I have used this, its effectiveness has just amazed me. It was originally put together by a chemist for a skunk odor remover but it works well for pet urine and sinky old milk spills, etc. It can be put directly on a dog - left for 15 min and rinsed off.I have used it on carpet and on a sofa. Because I have 2 new small dogs here, we have had a couple accidents. Today I used this on an area rug. I turned it over and applied this stuff to the stain on the back of the rug and just left it.  I just went and smelled the stinky area and, Nothing! No smell at all!

Remember - you have to mix this in a bowl and throw away whatever you don't use. Do not put it in a closed container, I was told it could burst. I just pour it on the offending area and rub it in with my hands. Let it dry and vacuum.

    1 qt hydrogen peroxide

    1/4 cup baking soda

    1 tsp Dawn dish soap

You will have to mix it up each time you pour it on the object because some of the baking soda might not completely dissolve.

The baking soda alone would probably work.

It helps, but it didn't work nearly as well when I tried only baking soda. And I found that after a time, the smell returned.

I swear by baking soda & white vinegar mixed together.  It does wonders in the washer.  I got mothball smell out of some old fabric recently with that mixture.

I'd be leery of using hydrogen peroxide on things -- can't it bleach?

It never has for me. I used it on a green rug, a dark patterned rug and a beige/cream colored sofa. I  was a little worried about the sofa, but it worked so well you can't even tell where I put it.

lol.  This brings back smelly memories for me.  I'm so glad I don't have pets any more.

Yes, I have used this solution more times than I want to remember.

Well I'm just going to have to buy some Dawn dishsoap,  I can see.  I've always used Palmolive,  but I keep hearing how great Dawn is. This recipe intrigues me.

No more pets here,  but I'm looking for something stinky to treat...

How about areas where a cat has sprayed?  In one corner of my patio, on outdoor carpeting I can smell that lousy cat spray.

I used this on my dogs when they meet the neighbor skunk YUK. Another recipe is 1 quart white vineagar 1/4th cup baking soda 1t dawn dish soap. Have to pour on while it's foaming,,that's what work's against the skunk smell.

Whatever happened to the plain old tomato juice bath?

Dawn can remove crude oil off of feathers (Remember the EXXON Valdez? Dawn was used to try to clean up the animals that got "slimed.")

Hydrogen peroxide is an oxidizer- a reactant; so is baking soda, esp. in the presence of an acid.

This works better than juice on skunk. We had trapper come and he set out 3 live traps ,,,well he got 3 big old skunks,,,good right,,,wrong next morning 8 baby skunks are wondering around by barn looking for mommy's. So out they came again and next day there all in traps. If there's anything cuter than baby skunks I've not seen it.
