If you could own a franchise...

Which one would you pick?  Or maybe you already own one, which kind?

I would pick a store like Hallmark, I love that stuff and could see myself working there.  DH would probably choose In & Out, I don't think they are franchised though.

I'd want a Wild Birds Unlimited store.

Baskin Robbins.  Maybe? I don't know.  Something that doesn't need a lot of employees, store space, investment, etc.  We looked into a Baskin Robbins years ago and you basically needed to have 2 stores to make a good living.  Can't remember the name of the city now, but it was across the street from an outlet mall on the way from LA to Phoenix and we were very close to buying that spot and didn't.  Someone else did and put a Baskin Robbins exactly where we were thinking of.  Can't tell you how many times I've stood in line for an ice cream there --- kicking myself.

Oh, and love your Hallmark idea.  Haven't seen them too crowded until they started selling the Webkins.  Have you noticed all the kids in there lately?  That would be such a fun place to work.  Surrounded by happy cards and smelling candles all day.

    In-Out Burger.

Why?  Because I see the long lines at every one we drive by.

Have never heard of that one Martha, but I adore birds of any kind.

Baskin Robbins would be danger danger for me.

I always thought In and Out was family owned ONLY, but not sure.

They sell wild birdseed, suet, feeders, birdbaths, field guides, and all kinds of other nature things. I've always loved those stores, and I would have bought the one near here when the couple who owned it retired if I'd had the money. Sadly, nobody else bought it either, so we no longer have one of them close by.

When I was a kid, I swore that when I grew up, I would buy a Mr.Softee ice cream truck. Then I would drive it down to a dead end street and park. Then I would put my head under the ice cream outlet and eat all the ice cream. Sometimes, I still want to do it. Maybe it I win the Lottery.

I would never own a franchise, because to me, going into business for yourself is about being able to make your own rules.

That being said, if I were going to start my own business I would open up a tax/bookkeeping/document production kind of venture.

Owning a franchise is NOT in my dreams!  But if I was, I would think Tim Hortons would be a good choice, because I've never seen a dead TH!  Most mornings, the drive thru is all around the building, and the line inside is just as long.  Even in hard economic times, people tend to still want to gather with their friends and drink a good cup of affordable coffee.

Oh AP, Penzeys would be wonderful.  I love that store.  I'm lucky to have one near me as they are not abundant....yet.

Char, I've never heard of Tim Horton's, is a burger type place?

WC, I probably wouldn't really want to deal with a franchise for real, but it's fun to think of owning something you like and is already established.  I know what you mean though, about not having free reign.  I don't think I'd like that.

An ice cream truck would be a blast wouldn't it?  At least we could pick our own music!

    Yum, Taco Bell

Banana Republic is too expensive for me.  Wink
