ISO Your favorite Seasonings for Beef Stew

Don't want hot sauce. Do you use steak sauce or Worcestershire, garlic? Flour or cornstarch? Tomatoes?

Yes, please, KateMarie. I've never tried it with: basil, sweet peppers blend, or cabbage, and very seldom have used tomatoes. I've seen several recipes with all types of seasonings and was wondering if it's like the 2 bases used for clam chowder (milk or tomato) or the way meatloaf is made with tomato or none. I made mine today, but just threw in what I usually do without a recipe. The same vegs you mentioned but with browning small pieces of tender beef in Butter Crisco, floured, to make a brown base, and dumplings added during the last minutes. Thank you.

Here ya go Lin..... This is my mom recipe. She made it in a roaster and slow cooked it in the oven, but I use my crockpot. The seasonings are just what I "start" with.. After it cooks about 2 hours on low, I stir it all up and taste test it, then season again as needed....

    After Church Beef Stew
1 1/2 lbs lean beef cut into 1/2-inch cubes
    Salt to taste
    1/2 tsp basil
    1/2 tsp sweet pepper blend
    1/2 tsp celery salt
    1-2 cups shredded cabbage
4 carrots cut in halves lengthwise and crosswise
2 medium onions cut in 1/2" slices
    1 Qt.Stewed tomatoes
3 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed

Place beef (no need to brown it) in crock pot.
Sprinkle with salt, basil, celery salt and pepper.
Top with carrots, potatoes onions, and last the cabbage.
Pour stewed tomatoes over meat and vegetables, coating all pieces.
Cover tightly and bake on low for all day (about 8 hours).

McCormick Seasoned Pepper Blend, 2.62-Ounce Unit (Pack of 6)

I use this pepper in almost everything that I cook. It is my most favorite!!!

Katiemarie,  sounds great.   when the fall comes around I will be trying your recipe.
I finally made a great beef stew this past winter by combining ingredients from a couple of different recipes.    I use thyme,  parsley,  onion, garlic, celery, bouillion cubes,  brown gravy mix, salt and pepper.

When I do make mine im going to try the seasoned pepper blend that you got up there also katiemarie.
