    Canadian Corner 06/29/09

    Good Morning Friends,

It will be a nice day here not as hot which I like, comfortable able to enjoy the outdoors.

Today we are switching server for the TV/computer we are getting Bell Express Vue....hope we like it. We had our local cable co. didn't like it too much.

I'll be back after it is all changed, later today, hope we like it.

How was everyone's weekend? The camping girls did you enjoy it and smell of smoke?

Meme, we had a dog going on 17 years of age but we had to put her down we were doing her a favour, arthritis, hearing loss, couldn't see very well, not the same dog anymore. It was hard for us in fact I cried and cried, but better for her sake.

Cathy, don't go too far from home anymore because you could go anytime into labour.

How much is your price of gas, we filled up yesterday for 91.5    I think by next weekend it will be up again due to the long weekend.

Aleida, are you weeding the garden today?

Gramma, a job well done with the yard sale. How how are ejoying the senior complex?

    Have a nice day ladies,

Good morning Maria -- no weeding today and no watering as there was lots of rain yesterday.  But 8 o'clock I will be picked up as I go out to pick strawberries -- if the ladies decide to.  Weather news has it that this week there will be a lot of rain and that would mean rotted berries so the ladies-who-know decided we should pick today.  We're busy with other stuff tomorrow and Wednesday.  Not too many of us picking either.  I'll be bringing my pillow to sit on.

We still have Bell Express-Vu in the bedroom and it's okay -- just get tired of the added on cost for every channel I seemed to want -- or more that DH seemed to want as he watches more TV.  Are you getting the PVR -- now that I did like but somewhat ticked off when they kept changing how to use it -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it -- I liked how easy it was -- then it got so I was pulling my hair out -- but it is a wonderful way to tape programs.  In the living room we are trying free-to-air and I expect we will expand on that with time -- learning with baby steps.  For the computer we use the cable people (Rogers)  and I doubt I would switch to Bell as three people at the shop where I bring my computer for whatever -- they all instantly said -- no stay with Rogers, don't go with Bell.  And we listened.

The sun is shining and coffee is ready.  DH is still snoozing but -- nope he just got up.

    have a great Monday all.

    Aleida

    Good Morning All

It's beautiful here this morning nice & cool. I went on a baking spree yesterday & doing the same thing today. My freezer will be full.

So better get my you know what in geer.

I got this in an e-mail this morning so I thought I'd share

    Everyone have a great day

    Anica

              TRUE

I checked this out on Snopes and it is verified to be TRUE!
Some Crazy Conspiracy in Our Time

THIS IS HAPPENING RIGHT HERE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY!
                  We Must Stop This Immediately!
Have you noticed that stairs are getting steeper .  Groceries
are heavier .  And, everything is farther away.  Yesterday I walked to the
corner and I was dumbfounded to discover how long our street had become!
And, you know, people are less considerate now, especially the
young ones.  They speak in whispers     all the time!  If you ask them to
speak up they just keep repeating themselves, endlessly mouthing the same
silent message until they're red in the face!  What do they think I am, a
    lip reader?
I also think they are much younger than I was at the same age.
On the other hand, people my own age are so much older than I am.  I ran
into an old friend the other day and she has aged so much that she didn't
    even recognizeme.
I got to thinking about the poor dear while I was combing my
hair this morning, and in doing so, I glanced at my own reflection. Well,
REALLY NOW -even mirrors are not made the way they used to be!
Another thing, everyone drives so fast these days!  You're
risking life and limb if you happen to pull onto the freeway in front of
them.  All I can say is, their brakes must wear out awfully fast, the way I
see them screech and swerve in my rear view mirror.
Clothing manufacturers are less civilized these days.  Why
else would they suddenly start labeling a size 10 or 12 dress as 18 or 20?
Do they think no one notices? The people who make bathroom scales are
pulling the same prank.  Do they think I actually "believe" the number I see
on that dial?  HA!  I would never let myself weigh that much!  Just who do
    these people think they're fooling?
I'd like to call up someone in authority to report what's
going on -- but the telephone company is in on the conspiracy too: they've
printed the phone books in such small   type that no one could ever find a
    number in there!

All I can do is pass along this warning:

                  WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!

Unless something drastic happens, pretty soon everyone will
have to suffer these awful indignities.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
SO WE CAN GET THIS CONSPIRACY STOPPED!

PS: I am sending this to you in a larger font size, because
something has happened to my computer's fonts - they are smaller than they
    once were.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Maria, the senior complex occasionally gets a little overcrowded. GS and GD thought they'd race through here last night. GS said "She said Mom was out here" ("she" meaning GD), and GD was in right behind him. I think I made it clear to GD that I didn't think her game was funny because she knew darned well that their mom was working in her office upstairs, and to both of them that my place is my home and that if they want to visit that's fine, but they weren't going to race in one door and out the other in search of their mom or anybody else! Grrrrrr.

Anica, now THAT was funny and so true! LOL!!!!

Today starts the massive reorganization of the garage and rearranging of my stuff in here. And Char? That includes hanging pictures. MaybeSmile

    Good morning from soggy NB!

I guess we are in for more rain.  The outlook doesn't show any sun until possible Saturday, then rain again for another week.  At this rate, I will probably lose everything in the garden.  This happened last year to, but later in July.  I'm about to start growing mold!  But on a positive note, it's much cooler today!

Gas prices, well ours is regulated by the government and it actually went down last week.  I'm sure it will be up again on Thursday morning.  Right now, our loval dealer (who is always 2 cents lower than town) is selling at 98.9  The rest of the area is 100.9

Aleida, have fun picking berries.  Dh's been picking ours off, but finding lots of rotten ones too.  I feel for the berry farmers here.  They will be losing lots this year with the weather.  Mil is supposed to come pick some this week and offered to pick some for us too, since I can't pick too well right now.  I told her I could get down on my hands and knees to pick, but she would have to help me back up again!  We have a berry u-pick just up the road from us.  If the rain ever stops, I may send Dh to get a few more boxes to freeze.  Our patch is just about done.

Anica, baking is one my agenda today too.   As soon as I logg of the computer, I am going to make bread.  Then we'll see how tired I am, I make make a couple of blueberry loaves.  I have been going to make them for about 2 weeks now, but haven't. I did try a blueberry muffin recipe last week, that I saw posted.  It was delicious!

Meesh, hope your last day with ACW goes well.   Just gotta make it through today, then clear sailing!

Gramma, good for you with setting the rules!  It's your home now and they shouldn't be running through it.  Have fun with the reorganizing!  My friend that I went shopping with on Saturday, stayed for a little bit and helped me organize the nursery.  Now I just have to put the bedding on the crib, and it's all set for little Shawn to arrive!

Well,  off to get some breakkie and start mixing up bread.  Hope you all have a great day!

    Cathy

Good Morning from Sunny Alberta. Please send some rain, as we are so dry. We had about 1/10 th of an inch the other day. Friday and Saturday DH applied 1500 gallons of water to the garden and it disappeared so fast. We borrowed a water tank and made 3 trips to fill it. Then my DH made a soaker hose by drilling holes into an old one, and laid it alongside the rows.

Loved your story, Anica! So true!

Today I am tidying and decluttering. Or I will be when I get off this chair. I'm working the rest of this week.

    Have a productive day, ladies!

Good morning!  Got my bread rising on my counter, and I'm babysitting.

We had a great time camping, cool, but not wet, even kinda sunny.  No swimming, well, other then Randene and one other girl, the brave (or stupid) ones.  Sunday was too windy to be outside, so the adults gathered in my trailer and enjoyed coffee together.  We saw two bears, had two deer come right into our campground, caught two small fish and saw wild rabit, so not all that much to see in wildlife, but the loons sang us to sleep every night, we love singing loons, they sound so wildernessy.

YF, our gas just dropped to 107.9.  It's high because BC is saving the planet earth (haha)  We have Starchoice, I hear it's more user friendly, and just a tad cheaper, been very happy with it, no complaints.

Anica, quick, send to ten friends in two minutes, or somthing bad is going to befall you, and all your hair is going to fall out, I know it will, it happened to my hair dresser's uncle's neighbours cousin who was living on the streets!!    hahah, thanks for the laugh, I've read it before.

Gramma, awww, leave those pictures to another day, I'm sure they havent rested long enough, it's not nice to awaken somthing out of hibernation if it's not ready!  How old are the GGkids??

Well, guess I better go back and read, make sure that you all behaved while I was gone.

    Any plans for July 1st???

Another beautiful day here. 15*C...just a few clouds. We need rain, but at least it's cool, so that helps. Not so nice for sun-seekers, but without rain, this is better.

Good to see you back, Char. I'm glad you enjoyed your camping trip.

Where is Pat? Did anyone see her streak by?

And how is your mother, Dolores? I'm glad you enjoyed te GK's grad.

I made a start in the bedroom, so I need to keep up the momentum. BBL

JP, nope, no Pat, and I believe your our streaker, that title belongs to you, fully earned!  You get the streakin crown! LOL.

It's cool today, have the furnace going, but suppose to get warmer.

How many of you are taking Friday off instead of Wed?  What do you think of people who do it?  Take Friday and work Wed?  Is that unpatriotic of them?  Is it okay, because it's just a birthday party, and not a celebration of independence like July 4th?  What do you think of the way Americans party?  Is it over the top?  Are they actually celebrating what the forfathers faught for, or is it just an excuse to throw a great summer party?

Okay, you got ten minutes to answere this question, otherwise  your computer is going to blow up.  Trust me, my father's uncle's great grandmother's neighbour, it happened to her!  You better not jinx this!

Hi everyone.  Hard to believe June is almost gone, we saw some crops yesterday that were heading out, next thing you know they will be combining them.!!

My Mom is pretty well the same, she did not know me for the first half hour yesterday. She did eat some lunch so I guess that is a good thing.  She just has no strengh for anything, can't even put her legs over the side of the bed by herself.

Glad you had fun on the camping trip Char.  We did that almost every weekend when our kids were small and then we bought a place at a beach and enjoyed that for another 10 years. Now we have nothing, just stay close to home. LOL

The people who have our local diner have parted ways.  She took the 4 kids and went to BC on Sat morning and is not coming back. I feel so bad for the kids as they have lived here for 7 years and have made lots of friends. The oldest is 13 and is a very good friend of Dom's. She spent Friday night at the sleepover that Dom had after grad and I guess it was pretty sad, lots of tears were shed. Her Mom said she had to be home by 4:30 AM so of course none of the girls went to sleep and walked Tia home for 4:30 and her Mom was all packed up with a U haul and they left. It is always the kids that get hurt.

Today as soon as the kids get out of school the twins leave for camp for a week.

Better scoot, am watering all the flowers so have to go and move the hose. BBL   DD

Just popping in again for a second...good morning ladies! Actually, good afternoon here.

Char, about the deer and the bear. Once when we lived out West, we went camping at Elephant Butte Lake (it's a reservoir) in New Mexico. About 3 in the morning, the ground seemed to start rumbling. We couldn't figure out what the heck was going on and the noise kept getting louder and louder. Finally we decided to look outside. Nothing. But the rumbling got worse and worse. Earthquake. Naaaa. After a while we heard the herd...of cattle! A rancher was actually driving his herd through the campground. The cattle were polite at least...they didn't trample any tents, just plodded along around whatever was in the way! We didn't step in any cow pies that day, so I guess they were very polite. LOL The kids sure did have fun telling everybody about the cattle drive when we got home.

Whoo Hoo!  Three loaves of bread are cooling on the table and 2 loaves of blueberry lemon tea loaf are in the oven.  I feel so accomplished today!  Now I am ready for a nap *lol*

Guess I gotta figure out what I am going to make for supper soon too.  So much for a nap!  Wonder if the rain is going to hold off, so we could bbq?  Then again, dh could just put the bbq in the garage and do it in there with the garage door open.  Wouldn't bother him to bbq in the rain.

We have Star Choice too.  I got the system for free when I worked for the call centre.  No real complaints about them.  I had thought about switching to digital cable with Rogers and doing a bundle (internet, tv, cell)  but I wouldn't really save any money.  I found that the cable was going to be more expensive.

Well, off to check on the blueberry loaves and have a slice of warm bread!  Yummy!
