Are you good at making something from nothing?

    For dinner let's say.

Last night, I had a few flour tortillas to use up, chicken, cabbage, green onion and I thought I had stir fry sauce.  But I only had terriyaki marinade, soy sauce, chopped garlic and hot pepper sauce.  So the chicken got cut in to small pieces. cabbage was shredded green onions chopped.  I sauted the chicken first then added the cabbage, green onions, garlic let that stirfry. and poured some of each of the sauces in.  Just winged it.  It was even better for leftovers for my lunch today.  I guess, I did planned overs, so I could have one today.

this is a good idea thread-

I often use leftover rice- fresh frozen veggies and steam both in the microwave - and then heat some canned beans--(good protein with rice) . I get the beans in tomato sauce only for this purpose. I keep them in stock.

I steam rice and veggies separately and then mix as both require different times.

no beans- you can make a great soup instead.

I will try to bring some other ideas later-

rice beans and frozen veggies are good things to have on hand- you can, of course- make the dish with fresh rice but I freeze l/o rice for this reason-

we often had a free supper once a week just by freezing odds and ends - always different and rather fun- I find left overs only retain their joy if used with in about 10 days.

I also do planned overs for rice.  It can hold in the refrigerator for a week.  Just add a little water when reheating. Usually, I can think of something else to use it up by then.  It's great for serving under stirfries.

I often use up all the little bits leftover from meals and put them into omelets!  Everyone can pick which of the leftovers they want in their and we have our own little "omelet bar" for dinner!  We add toast and homemade jelly, decaf coffee for the adults and hot chocolate for  the kids!  Its a great way to use up leftovers and everyone feels like their getting a special meal just for them!

    1.

Years ago when my children were small I needed to make dinner but didn't have much in the fridge/cupboard.  Had a couple of frozen hamburgers - so I browned the meat up with onion, added a can of mixed vegetables and one envelope of gravy (one cup) and topped it with canned biscuits.  Canned fruit for a salad and dinner was complete.  My husband even liked it which suprised me.

mostly soup.......... left over vegetables and beef or chicken noodle

also chicken pot pie and bbq pork--- I use the "ends" of pork loin when we get them for chops, I save the ends and put them in crock pot with bbq sauce shred and put out for sandwiches.
