    Re: Congratulations, Alaska! Palin quits!

I haven't read really any of the replies but:

I had a great job many years back. And one day as I was driving there it dawned on me that "They need me more back home where I'm driving from, than at work where I'm driving to". Went into the manager's office that day and gave my notice.

Some may not like her (politics), but her head seems to be in the right place. And it's not like she didn't receive a boat load of criticism for even considering a VP slot all the while being the mother of a special needs child.  <Insert sarcasm here.>  How dare she?  <Remove sarcasm.>  Sad thing about this, it seems other mothers in the political spotlight have been very encouraged to aspire in their political careers. But Palin has that "R" after her name, so therefore is very discouraged from pursuing her "womanly" dreams.  If only she had the "D", I guess.  She would have (at the least) been the darling of the NOW these days.

Some days, I can literally see the testosterone floating in the air around here.

She seems to of lost alot of weight. Looking gaunt in some pics. As far as her baby.,no one I know of would ever make fun of this child. The pic of the guy was I guess making fun of him and sarah, not Trig. Would I of even of gone there NO but some people are jerks ,doesn't matter what party they belong to.The old saying goes IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE HEAT GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN,,well politics isn't for the faint of heart . When she was running she was giving as good as she got if your recall is any where near honest. Sometimes you bite off more than you can chew,,she realized it and quit.

There are 105 replies to this so far!

I haven't read them, and maybe won't have time or energy to. I just noticed in the articles about her resigning, it hinted that she might have in anticipation of running for president next time!?

     Is she serious?

Do any of the Republicans here think this is a good idea, and would you support her and vote for her?

I remember when Nixon lost to JFK  and then ran again, he had a makeover first, his looks, and lighting and cameras, and personality, to come across in a better way. I wonder if that is what Sarah plans?

Hopefully, someone will offer her a talk show or news anchor job and she will take that instead.

Wasn't Jerry Springer once Mayor of Chicago?

I don't know what it was about jokes about the baby, but seems like she USED her kids a lot in the campaign. The only thing anyone might have joked about is the kid's names, but I don't remember noticing that. I think "Trig" is a cute name.

I'm sure the comments on this thread are what Widdle would refer to as "hate speech".

I find it interesting that some of those who think it was no big deal that someone Photoshopped her special needs child's photo are the very ones who get a righteous about THEIR family.  How pitiful!

Starchild, I'd vote for Palin for President in a heartbeat.  She's WAY better than the POS that's in the White House now.

Sarah Palin faces federal indictment for embezzlement
    July 3, 10:54 PM

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who announced her resignation from office earlier today, may be facing a federal indictment for embezzlement, according to Huffington Post blogger Shannyn Moore
Moore is reporting that the so-called "iceberg scandal" involves the use of Wasilla Sports Complex building materials for Palin's residence during her tenure as mayor.
According to Moore, "Both structures, it is said, feature the same windows, same wood, and same products."
The Daily Kos says federal investigators have been looking into this for some time, and indictments could be imminent.
Max Blumenthal, writing for The Daily Beast, said Alaska political circles are abuzz about a building contractor called Spenard Building Supplies, which has close ties to Palin and her husband, Todd.  According to Blumenthal, federal investigators have been seizing paperwork from SBS in recent months, searching for evidence that Palin and her husband Todd steered lucrative contracts to the well-connected company in exchange for gifts like the construction of their home on pristine Lake Lucille in 2002. The home was built just two months before Palin began campaigning for governor, a job which would have provided her enhanced power to grant building contracts in the wide-open state.
According to Blumenthal, just months before Palin left Wasilla to campaign for governor, she awarded a contract to SBS to help build the $13 million Wasilla Sports Complex. The most expensive building project in Wasilla history, the complex cost the city an additional $1.3 million in legal fees and threw it into severe long-term debt. For SBS, however, the bloated and bungled project was a cash cow.
Andrea Mitchell reported on MSNBC that, according to "people very close to Sarah Palin," she has "told her supporters that she is out of politics, period. She is fed up with politics. She doesn't like her life. She feels that she needs to raise her family.
More updates to come as this story develops.

And just think... John McCain thought this mess was the best Republican out there to be his running mate. The most qualified person in the USA to be a heartbeat away from the White House. What does THAT say? Well, it was pretty obvious during the campaign that she was a desperation move by a candidate who knew he couldn't win. But now McCain will really, really look like a fool.

There were rumblings of 'Housegate' during the campaign, but there wasn't enough time for it all to come out.

Martha, did you read the new Vanity Fair article on Palin, "It Came from Wasilla" ?

While its not the first time its been said, John McCain isn't exactly a shrewd judge of character, but in the rush to pick a running mate, his staff didn't vet Palin. No one even knew the basics about her and then they had to scramble to send dozens lawyers and researchers off to Alaska where national reporters and the blogospherians were already dredging for Palin gold.

Palin's petty immaturity only plays well to the evangelical set. As McCain discovered, she couldn't sustain a legitimate candidacy based on her bizarre, freak-factor image. She's made herself into herself into a national laughingstock and its foolishness to believe her political ambitions will survive this latest stunt. Seriously... can you see it; Republicans and cut-n-run Palin???

Any bets on when she will announced a fund raiser for her legal defense team???

I get it,Ridge. Look at all of them falling all over her carcass and its not even cold yet.

Get real, people! The ONLY ones here who this affects are AKP and the others from Alaska. The rest of you are all just jumping in the dog pile. It reminds me of the bullying I witnessed in JR high. When one person a few people dont like is down, out come all the bullies to get their punches in to.

For what it is worth.  IMHO I don't care if she has the R or the D after her name.  I don't like the way she was running this state.

    We'll see what transpires.

No dig here, but a question for you, MOMTLJK.

In your post yesterday, you said:

    MOMTLJK:

I appreciate a woman who didn't have to ride her husband's coat tails to be in a position of power.

Was that just a gratuituous dig at Hillary Clinton, or do you truly think it's unusual that a woman is able to gain a position of responsibility all by herself, without some man putting her there?

I did read that article. I think I even posted a link to it here a few days ago. I thought it was obvious last fall that there were a lot of issues within the McCain campaign.

McCain's choice of Palin really did him in. It showed more than anything else that this is not a guy who thinks things through before acting--a deadly trait in a president.

And now all of Palin's pretended outrage over the Letterman thing is starting to make more sense. She knew this was coming, she knew she was going to jump ship, and she had to make herself look like some sort of martyr before then. It failed, of course, because most people aren't that gullible.
