    Canadian Corner 07/04/09

    Good Morning Ladies,

Happy 4th of July to our American friends, enjoy your weekend.

We are taking the grandkids home this morning,  It's hard work raising kids, I don't remember it being this hard when I was raising mine. Well one thing I was a young chick at the time...LOL.

Be patience with me, I will be posting more after today.

Thanks again Emc, for the siggies, I always enjoy them.

Pat are you off to the market this morning?

Char must be gone camping,  Aleida I think you'll be heading out soon to go yard sales.

Anica, I had a cold sore this week also with it didn't last long.  Eva, are you going to the Stampede?  Gramma, you have so many knowlegeable quotes, I love them. I love what you said to cathy about when the baby will be born. Give us more info.    Meme, how is your garden looking?

The kids are still sleeping, have to get them up soon, showers and getting ready to head out.

    Have a nice day,

    YF

Good morning YF & Aleida...so far.  I'm up early and hard at work.  Tomorrow is my FIL 80th birthday party so I'm starting the salads, veggie trays, baked beans, etc... Have to go into town later this morning to get some more things and I also hope to get a pedicure in there somewhere this morning.  Kettle is boiling so I'll grab a cup and get back to work. Have a good day everyone! Maybe I'll check back later...I'm sure hoping this doesn't take all day.  MIL is starting to stress so maybe I'll stop there later and see what else I can do.  TTYL

Aleida, now you've done it! Jinxed for sure...you should probably take an umbrella along to go garage saling.

It's going to be a beautiful day here with rain and thunderstorms starting in a big way after midnight. We need the rain, and it's nice that it's holding off until the fireworks are over.

I got exactly nothing accomplished yesterday. I spent the morning running errands.

Then older DGS was invited to spend the holiday and all next week with a friend who lives on the other side of Atlanta. A couple of weeks ago somebody who wasn't very bright offered him $400 more for his car than it was worth so he sold it. I have no idea what was so attractive about that old clunker and either does he, but he said he'd take the money and run before the buyer decided that it wasn't worth the money! Smart boy...I guess that's why he's in college on scholarshipsSmile  Anyway, being the nice gramma that I am Wink I drove him to his friend's house. That's 30 miles each way on the interstate for a total of two hours. And interstate driving ix supposed to be quicker than back roads? LOL

Then I was nominated to make meatloaf for dinner. By the time we finished dinner, I didn't feel like doing anything so I didn'tSmile

DSIL isn't firing up the grill until later this afternoon so maybe I'll get some things put away (and maybe even a couple of pictures hung!) today.

A biker buddy of ours called last night to tell me that he took one of those "tests" to see where in the US he'd like living. The first place on his list of results was Berea, KY! and one of the other places turned out to be Farmington, New Mexico. He asked had I ever been there? Have I? I lived there many years ago. LOL

He told me that I should be glad I didn't decide to move back up to the UP because more and more people are leaving, and the town where I lived is getting more and more dilapidated and depressing. None of my brothers or sisters have mentioned a word about hard times up there, but that could be because they are all employed in good, secure jobs.

Hey! Anybody want to provide a home for Sarah Palin? She's the kook who was a vice presidential nominee in the US last year and is the governor of Alaska. She's resigning. Huh? Just like that, with another year and a half to go, she decided to quit. Good thing she didn't win the election as VP. What a nut case! Well, never mind. I'm sure you already have plenty of your own nutty polilticiansSmile

Pat, surely there's some rain in your futureStorm I will keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the 4th of July wishes. Sorry I didn't get on here to wish you a Happy Canadian Day. Hope it was a good one for you all.

I've got food ready and we're going to take it to the lake to have lunch with Munchkin and his family, if it's not raining. So far it's just real cloudy but rain is expected today sometime. We sure need it. The garden is so dry, it's pitiful. Richard got out there & tried to water some but you can't even tell it later in the day. We have smoked turkey breast, smoked baked beans, slaw, macaroni salad that is a new recipe for me, potato salad and deviled eggs. We were going to make ice cream but since we're going to the lake, we'll do it later today or tomorrow.

Gramma, you must be like me. If I once leave the house the day is shot. I never get back to what I had planned. You're braver than me on the driving. I'd freak out if I had to drive in Atlanta. I've never been there but just heard about the traffic. I drive to our son's in Dayton but that's about the only big city driving driving I do.

I need to get busy & slice the turkey breast & get things packed in the cooler. This is the coolest 4th of July I can remember. Most times it's scorching hot, but then this has been a weird year for our weather.

If we get rained out, I may be back on later.

Hello and Happy 4th to the American CC friends,

YF, I think, apart from the fact that we are not as fit as we once were! that kids today seem to have so much more energy to do so many more things than we did as kids, or as our kids did? that is my theory anyway! Big Smile too many choices and they want to be on the go alllllll the time!

Enjoy your shopping Aleida and I am glad the rain has stopped for you, send it down here, we have had a lot this week, but need as much as we can before the warmer weather starts up again in a few months!

Beesmom, I hope you enjoy the 80th Birthday party and that the stress levels go and the fun begins!

Hi Pat, hope you have a very productive day at the market!

Gramma, I know I am usually MIA but I love to read about you and your lovely little new home, sending you lots of good wishes and may life be less stessful for you too.

Oh! just remembered, we saw about Sarah Palin on the news last night, they said she is clearing her way for a clear run at the presidency !!!! scary thought that one! haha

Marilyn, don't wish for 'scorching hot', not much fun to be had when everyone is so hot they cannot function, been there too many times! haha

Hi Meesh, EMC and Eva you enjoy all that "junk" food! Big Smile some of them do sound very different! enjoy!

I best move it here, Sunday morning, so no hurry to do much at all, have a great "sleep" everyone.

    Hugs, Lotte

    Hi Meme,

Not many come into CC at this time, but for me it is late afternoon, around 4.15pm Sunday afternoon and I am about to go and make some supper for myself.

    Take care,

     Hi Lotte,

It is the middle of the night here--very early Sunday morning.  I'm up for a while now because again I fell asleep in front of the TV.

Have you selected your next stitching projects?  I seem to recall seeing a full body cheetah against a tree branch as an old BHG kit in their craft magazine ads.

Our temperatures have been much more comfortable (mid 20's)  but the rains are eluding our corner of the world.  In fact, if we had a two-three day soaker now, it would be too late to revive many of the crops.

    What's on your menu tonight?

     Hi Pat,

I did not get back to the computer, I left it doing scans and checks but thought I would take another quick visit in here before I switch off, it would not matter if being on here keeps me awake tonight, as I would love to stay awake to watch "live" the mens tennis final from Wimbledon, it does not begin till amost 11pm, I probably will fall asleep too!

I have set aside stitching for now and knitted up some beanies (hats) for my sons and grandsons and also a poncho for my granddaughter, I would love to find that Cheetah you mentioned, it might be what my son is looking for, so far, most sites I have checked, just don't have much to offer.

I cooked myself some chicken, small thigh fillets, that were on special this week at Coles supermarket,  I  baked them in the oven with lots of garlic and other herbs in olive oil and did  a quick stir fry of vegetables to go with it.

Sadly, I know too well what the lack of rain does to crops, 10 yrs of drought in our State and farmers taking their lives over the last summer, was a shocking thing to go through and they say another Il Nino is on the way and we will have a much drier spring, so I guess we are enjoying this rain while we can, it is scary to think what the future will hold for us down here.

    Hugs for now,

    Lotte
