    • Well I have Bob’s computer set up with sound (old speakers not especially good but still work  Good ones another causality) and a new printer since his was another causality of the lightning.  He loves it since it has a DVD and he can watch fishing videos till his heart is content and I will not fuss to much.  I don’t remember a computer being this hard to set up, or maybe it was because I had to test everything this time before I left it on there.

    • Thought for the Day-Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back. Don't expect love in return, just wait for it to grow in their hearts but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours.

    • Today is National Cheesecake Day. As food holidays go, this is one of the tastiest of treats.

    • Despite being a rich, high calorie, and cholesterol filled, cheesecake is a very popular dessert. Why? Because it tastes so good. It is enjoyed plain, or with your favorite fruit topping.

    • Enjoy the day with a piece of cheesecake, along with your favorite topping. If you have time, make the cheesecake yourself.

    • Happy National Cheesecake Day!

    • Special hugs and prayers for Nancy B, Anne, Sherry and Odell, Betty, Gat and Jeanette, Grace, Cilla, Mabel and Sally and Colleen.

    • And Don’t Forget the basket!! Keep it full of extra hugs and prayers for all that need them!!

    • Remember the group prayer! “Heavenly Father, we ask that you watch over and care for all Cookin’ Seniors and those they love as they go about their day!!”

    • Waves and hugs to all!!

    • Today’s song is “Singing in the Rain”, an older Gene Kelly classic.  Very very appropriate for all the rain Cilla and I have had recently.  Also I guess it reminds me of the boy on “So You Think You Can Dance”  who I have a feeling might go home tonight.  Personally I still think he will do great on Broadway.

    • I'm singing in the rain
      Just singing in the rain
      What a glorious feelin'
      I'm happy again
      I'm laughing at clouds
      So dark up above
      The sun's in my heart
      And I'm ready for love
      Let the stormy clouds chase
      Everyone from the place
      Come on with the rain
I've a smile on my face
      I walk down the lane
      With a happy refrain
      Just singin',
      Singin' in the rain

    Good Morning Everyone,

We had some day yesterday!  Thunderstorms and an unending torrent of rain kept emergency crews busy pumping out parking lots, basements and attending to fallen telephone and electric poles.   Lightning struck a house in our town and started a garage fire.  Lightning A nearby road was closed because of standing water, mud and debris.    We had over 5" on rain during the afternoon and evening.   Storm JP we would have loved to send some up to you!!!!!!   I doubt if you would have liked the whole 5 inches though!

Sherry, I'm so sorry you have to have more surgery.

Nice to see you "pop" in again Sandy S.

Pennybrown, how was the corn?   I remember the days when we always grew our own corn.   It sure beats the grocery store stuff!!!

I had a weird one happen yesterday, I had turned off my computer and was watching TV, when a lightning strike occured nearby.   My TV went off and the word WINDOWS went flashing across my computer screen!   TV was fine, I just had to turn it on again, but I  worried about the computer,  as soon as the storm let up a little, I turned it on again and that too was fine.

I'm off to the VA today, if the van can get through to pick me up.    Have a great day everyone,

    Mabel

Good morning from up north. It's 12*C, or 53.6*F. We're expecting temps in the mid twenties, so, let's see...that'll be +/-  77*F. Yup, can handle that okay. Anything warmer and I'm in need of fans blowing at me...not usually practical. Most of us do not have air conditioning here in this area.

Been awake since 2:45am. Sheesh! It started with a biffy trip and I never got back to sleep. Why, oh why, oh why!!! So I figured at 4:30, I may as well get up. Need to be at work at 8:30am for a shorter shift. Guess I'll be drinking a bit more coffee this morning. DH is still deep in la-la land. If only I could sleep like he does.

Oh, Mabel, 5 inches over a couple of days would be absolutely lovely! It could rain here for 2 weeks. That would kill off the grasshoppers, I think. At least the dairy and cattle farmers would be dancing, as feed this year will be scarce without rain. For many crops it may be too late, though. There is widespread crop damage due to our drought. Still, God knows what He's doing.  He has His perfect plan for us. Yes, even in the storm, such as the one you got, with much damage, God speaks and we must listen.

Guess I'll be looking for some breakfast and jump in the shower. Wishing everyone a nice day!

               JP

Good morning,The rain missed us again. I do wish we could get a little. DS cut the grass yesterday afternoon and it is so dry and dusty.

Zora - So glad you have Bob "up and running". I know who to call when I need something set up. Love the song for the day, I can picture in my mind Gene Kelley with the umbrella dancing and singing that song.

Margaret E. - Your walks sound like they are so much fun. When you are with a group time goes by so fast.

Mabel - Have you bought yourself a boat or maybe a jet ski yet. Sounds like thats what you need. Maybe even an ark if you keep getting rain.

JP - We all seem to want what someone else has. I guess that is true with anything. We both would like to have some of Mabel's rain and I would love some of your cooler weather. So glad your foot is better.

Beverly - The butterflies yesterday were so pretty. I miss the butterfly bush I had at the house in town.

Penny - Fresh corn sounds so good. That with some homemade biscuits, sliced maters, and fried chicken. If your gonna do it might as well do it right. lol

    Hugs to all,

    Brenda

    Good morning, CS.

Hi, ZORA. I'm with you about Evan on SYTYCD-----he reminded me of Gene Kelly the first time I saw him. I think he's leaving, too.

MARGARET E, nice paths you had for walking. Being out in the woods, etc. is very refreshing. Kudos to you for resisting the chocolate biscuits. Yep, I knew what you meant. I have a biscuit barrel in my kitchen.

MABEL, that certainly was too much rain. Maybe you will get picked up in a canoe instead of the van.

JP, same weather for me here in SE WI. Glad you have a short shift after not much sleep.

    {{{SHERRY}}}

Late breakfast here, so it's toast, jam, coffee and watching the birds.

One of the recipes from our Holiday Classics book was prepared yesterday. I thought it was good…some thought it was a little salty but guess it’s the ham you use…  We also had a Crockpot Chocolate Cake that was delish!! Don’t have any other recipes yet but I’ll share when I get them!!
    Crockpot Ham
1 butt portion ham (needs to be able to fit in your crockpot)
    2 cups of water
Put the ham in the crockpot and cook on Low for at least 8 hrs. Take ham out and cut it in small chunks. It will be very tender. [I think it would be too stringy if you shredded it.] Take fat off (if you didn’t trim it before cooking). Serve with assorted rolls and mayo and regular mustard. (Regular mustard allows the flavor of the ham to come through.) Sheila used a Smithfield ham and sometimes they are salty.

Leaving a huge cantaloup with fresh ground pepper in the basket. All cut up. Help yourself.

Back flap, bc, back flap bc, shuffle hop, shuffle step, bc bc, scuff.

Step Kelly used in Singing in the rain.

Busy Busy, big backhoes and bulldozers....getting rid of piles of dirt and getting front steps and sidewalk and a yard. Whooeeee. Still don't have a legitimate bedroom.

So sad. Our community has lost two children duringthe month of July. An eleven year old boy fell under a brush hog. Day before yesterday a two year old girl died in a house fire. Her father was burned severly trying to save her. DH was called to both. He won't talk about it, but I know he is feeling bad because he is out there throwing dirt around like a madman.

    Welcome Sandy.

Stick out tongue Good Morning CS,

Miss sally asked me to post for her this morning.  She will mostly likely be at the 'puter later today. The reason she has not bben on this week (nor thank the wonderful cookers who helped w/ the recipe search) is that we were informed on Tuesday evening that her Total Knee replacement has been moved up to this Monday, August 3rd!!  We have been 'on the run' since that night.  Today she has a hair appt. then nothing but computer time is scheduled which she is happy about needless to say.

I will let her update you on the house and all we have done in 8 days...C-R-A-Z-Y! Thank you for all the love you show both of us!  Big Hugs to All...

The night was already a sleepless misery. A low rumble rolled overhead, followed by a myriad of growls and flashes of light briefly touching the window. A loud clap thundered, shuddering, overhead and it became even darker as the tiny glows of light from the bedside clock, telephone, television went out. I arose and checked the time on the cell phone, 3:30AM and it, too, was flashing it's "I'm out of energy and about to succumb to darkness". I carefully felt my way across the house, found Mom sitting on the side of her bed, body weaving as she slept upright. Put her back to bed and proceeded outside to bring in Midge, small, older Terrier mix. Thunder began to crash it's insistent warning ever more frequently as tiny droplets of rain began to fall as I made my way to the driveway to close garage doors left open by DH.

Sunshine is now riding the cool breeze and promises of more storms tonight hang heavily on the distant horizon.

Good afternoon from Indiana, it's 75 out there, so not too bad.

Mable........the corn was so-so, think DH left it out there too long, not as tender as I like it.  He has more planted for later on & a different kind, hope that's better.

Brenda........your menu sounds wonderful, gotta have that good ole fried chicken......my Mom could make the best, of course fried it up in an iron skillet!   Lots of fresh maters with plenty of salt........mmmm........don't get any better than that!!

Zora......glad you got the puter all hooked up........you're a better woman than I am......LOL!

Going to the grocery in a little bit........will stop & get me a sandwich on the way home.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Lovely summer day.  Like the ones I remember of my childhood. Hot but not unbearably and “smells” like summer. Hard to describe but being from the Midwest it is a definite smell about summer as their is about spring and fall. Have to have the change of season.

All o.k. here in Mich. DH doing o.k.  And new refrigerator is doing great. Thank Goodness.

Thinking of you Sally and prayers going out for successful surgery.

Oh Sherry I sure wish they could find out why those nasty spots keep coming back. Fingers and toes crossed. Pass on the eyes though   LOL

I see where we have another Sandy. Welcome.  You can call me the  old Sandy.      Stay well all    Sandy
