    Dump it Cake

You know the one. The one with 1 can pineapple, 1 can cherry pie filling, 1 yellow cake mix (dry) and 2 sticks of butter, then bake ~~~~~ Yummo! I hadn't made this in years. I made one yesterday for a meeting I was going to and oh my, I forgot just how good it is :) Brought some leftovers home and am about to go get me a piece now.... Oh and I found out yesterday that you can get away with 1 and a 1/2 sticks of butter. So not as fattening, right?? Oh well, once in a while won't hurt...

Think that was one of the first "cakes" I baked as a kid.  If the butter is sliced thin enough, it can amount to just 1 1/2 sticks.  I like to add chopped nuts with the fruit, and serve the final product with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.  Have also subbed blueberry pie filling and got yummy results.

    Slug the recipe is:

1- 20 oz can crushed pineapple (drained)

    1 can cherry pie filling

1 box yellow cake mix (dry)

2 sticks butter sliced vey thin

Dump drained pineapple & cherry pie filling into a buttered 9x13 baking dish and spread evenly over the bottom. Pour on dry cake mix and again spread evenly over the cherry pie filling and pineapple. Slice butter thin and lay on top of the dry cake mix, covering all of the dry cake mix. Bake 350 for 30 - 40 minuetes. Mine was done in 35 minutes.

Note: I got by with 1& 1/2 sticks of butter :)

Trying to save on some of those calories don't ya know ~

Nuts sounds like a good addition :)

C&B, think I've always baked mine a bit longer.  Until it was golden brown on top.

Oh my gosh, I've seriously never heard of this, yet it sounds amazing! I love easy stuff like this...Like green bean casserole, where you literally dump all the ingredients into a pan, bake, and then call it a day!!! Can't wait to try this!

    Re: Dump it Cake

This has been a long time family favorite (under the name "Dump Cake", which my husband deemed unappetizing and disgusting, but which didn't stop him from eating at least his fair share.)

My favorite is with cherry pie filling, but we've also tried peach pie and apple pie filling, and each has its own group of supporters.  Another variation is that we melt the butter in the microwave and pour it over the top as evenly as possible.

Hmmm, #1 son is coming for a visit this weekend -- I think I'd better get some ingredients and warm the cockles of his heart.

    Raspberry is yummy too!

Like 4boys - I bake mine until it's golden brown.  I've also cut the butter into the dry cake mix before, like a crumb topping.

Looks great--printed it off. Thanks for the recipe, I'll give it a try this weekend.

Adding nuts would be a definite plus for me. Maybe a little, little lol dab of whip cream too
