Using Applesauce in cake instead of oil

I am embarking upon the German Chocolate cake adventure tomorrow, and I was wondering if anyone has ever used applesauce instead of the oil to make the cake more moist? Any suggestions?

I've used applesauce instead of oil....for a chocolate cake...you might want to consider prune pruee....works as well as applesauce.  If this is your 1st time substituting...why not replace half the oil w/applesauce or prune puree...see how you like it.

You can do it.  It changes the texture, though.  You'll want to experiment to see if the results are okay with you.  I, personally don't care for the spongy, extra-sweet results of using applesauce in baked goods.  I prefer to use the fat recommended and just eat a smaller portion size.  But a lot of people don't mind (or like) the results with applesauce.  It's just a personal preference.

Hmmm, smaller portion of chocolate cake. That's a great idea, but being a chocoholic, may not work for me. Awesome if you can do it... But, I have a question if I can ask it here. How do you cream applesauce and sugar in a cookie recipe??? I tried it and just did not seem to work. Any ideas?
