Re: H L Topic of Week Nov. 1-7 ~ Foods That Boost Brainpower!~

HAHAHA about the raw egg ... I dunno, I guess stomach upset, vomiting ... all that good stuff!

Natasha, IT DOESN"T WORK!!!!!!  I hate late start day - the reason that they do it, instead of just giving the kids a day off once in awhile is that the law is that if the kids eat lunch at school (if they are there before 12 noon) then it counts as a full school day!  Isn't that ridiculous????????  Every month ... 1st Wednesday, hate it!

Regarding weddings, we spent less than $1,000 on ours from tuxes to flowers, to dresses (for everyone) to food.  We got married in the church I grew up in, had our reception at the VFW Hall (hahaha) that my bridesmaids and I decorated the day before, we had finger foods, cake, punch, coffee, etc.  It was fun, everyone had a good time, we played records (yes, I am old) to dance to!  I think we got our money's worth, we've been married for 24 years!!!!!!!!!!!!  I cannot believe how much people spend nowadays, for what???????  The food is never that good, certainly not worth anywhere near what they charge, and seriously, it's one day!  If I knew someone who wanted to give me $30K to spend, I would take it in cash and put a down on a house, or pay off bills, or whatever, but I sure wouldn't spend it on a party!

Re: H L Topic of Week Nov. 1-7 ~ Foods That Boost Brainpower!~

    Hi Ladies!

I feel so blah today. I did get a few things done but it is that TOM and for some reason I have the munchies...but am doing ok fighting it off. I had two tiny candy bars and then an apple, and a string cheese a while ago. Other than that, it has been healthy fare- shredded wheat and bran for B'fast and for lunch chicken soup. :) I keep telling myself the candy bars are not there just for the taking- they have to be planned and enjoyed not devoured without thinking about them. LOL

I made a cute blue hat for one of the nurses babies. He is not a nb so tried to make it a little bigger than a nb size. I still need to get a package in the mail for someone with some baby goodies and then I will be caught up. Then, it will be time to crochet for C'mas projects.... :)

Our wedding wasn't really expensive either- a simple church wedding- my dress was probably the biggest expense- the bridesmades carried a single rose- I had a bouquet- we paid the preacher of course. :) No reception- we couldn't hardly get anyone out of the church- they all wanted to chat- told DH we should have eloped. LOL Oh yeah, we did have some professional photos but not a big expense there either.

Pam, love your wedding memories- sounds like Fun! :) Thanks for posting the recipe! I will copy it to the maindish thread. It looks fantastic!

Dawn, your elopement sounds just too cute too! I love the picnic idea!

Natasha, aaah, bet you did look like a princess! I still have my dress all boxed up. I am thinking one of these days that a future ddil may wear it. :) Unless DH and I renew our vows and then I will get to see if it still fits. My goodness, wonder if it would? :)

Rebecca, lol on needing more brain power foods! :) I know exactly what you mean about the late schedule(that's what they call it here) at school- if they are two hours late- goodness, it is really late when they get out of the house- you are exausted and don't have time to do much of anything while they are gone... LOL Wow, that is great that the kids got to bed by 8:30 last night. We were so lucky to get our boys to bed by 10 (well according to how old they were but 9 was pushing it unless they were really young).

(((Debi))), did your really eat cookie dough or are you kidding? I hope you are kidding!  You may have a flu bug that has the tummy problems. Sorry you still feel yucky. Drink plenty of liquids and get plenty of rest- orders from headquarters! :)

Phyllis found out today that Miss Nancy was given a strong pain medicine over the weekend. They have permission to go that route if the low dose ultram does not work. So, that is why her mood and memory went haywire! We are relieved though because at least there was a cause and she is doing somewhat better now. She is still kinda not with it at times but nothing like she was over the weekend and on Monday. At least they know what it is going to do to her! So, my days this week may be better than we expected. :) Well, Miss Nancy's too. :) We may even have lunch in the dining room instead of her room this week. We will see.

    Have a healthy day all!

So... yeah. Maybe something to think about if any of you shop these places.

Muril, Im so glad there was a reason found for Miss Nancy's behavior. Sorry youre not feeling so great today though... I have been having stomach cramps this afternoon which I am not used to. I get the depo shot, and havent had a period in like 3 or4 years... so no cramps. but when I get them once in a while, its like Ive forgotten how painful they can be. Thank gosh I dont get em often. Hope you feel better soon, and limit yourself on your candy! Good luck dear. I limited myself to 2 cookies yesterday... and I will probably have 2 this evening.

Rebecca, thats such a strange rule regarding if you eat lunch its considered a full day. We used to get out at 11 or 1130, and lunch was then optional! If you rode a bus, you stayed at school through the lunch time, but if you drove you were free to go when school let out.

Re: H L Topic of Week Nov. 1-7 ~ Foods That Boost Brainpower!~

Natasha  - Oh my, thanks for the list of recalls - - - but luckily the answer to that for me is no.
We don't buy any meat from any of those places.
I did wonder what the symptoms for ecoli would be too???????
No one else here is feeling this way.  Just me.
Glad you liked those NM cookies - I have never used anything but the Hershey choc & choc chips when making them.  We really like them a lot.
I have a TaterTot recipe given to me by a friend - but I have never made it.  Sounds fun.

    Muril - No I wasn't kidding. Embarrassed
I made some Oatmeal cookies for dh and ate some cookie dough.   Someone had to lick the beaters, right?  I actually did get sick the day after that.
I'm trying to drink plenty of liquids - - - it just all seems to go straight through me.
    (Sorry TMI)
But I'm staying hydrated as well as can be.
Sorry that you aren't feeling well today - - - get well soon. :)
Also glad that they figured out what it was with Miss Nancy, bless her little heart.

Dawn - Wow, that does sound expensive  -  but I would imagine that's what they cost.
Our's was pretty simple too - - - but it was 32 years ago.
Our's was done up a lot like Rebecca's - - - my Mom even made all of the bridesmaids dresses.
Our honeymoon was spent at my Aunt's Lake House - free.
Yum , I'm going to have to look at Target - for those Yogart flavors.  Maybe tomorrow.

Rebecca - You are a true sweetheart - with your foster care.  One day you'll be able to get a little one to smooch on.

Hi Dusta - so very happy that Mel is doing good.
I love those french bread pizza's - - - we used to make our own on french bread sometimes.  Haven't done it in a long while though.  Maybe we will have to soon.

Pammie - Hi Girl - - - - -- you take care of that knee.
Thanks so much for sharing your recipe with us - - - I'm going to make that soon.  Sounds really good.

(((Jet))) - hope you are feeling better - - - and really hope it's not gallbladder. :(

Kris - You can do that 1/2 Marathon, I wish I could come do it with you all.  It sounds like so much fun to me.

Well, I better shut it down for the evening.

I got up today not feeling good, but drove to school.  After 30 minutes my stomach felt worse, my back hurt and bodice ached so I checked out.  I slept 6 hours and feel a little better.

If I ever get married it would be with the immediate family by the pond in our back yard.  Pull a suit out of the closet and a nice dress that can be worn every day.  Lawn chairs to be comfortable and hopefully a nice, not to windy day.  A basic cake made by a friend.  I might spree for a few bottles of my favorite wine and some beer along with tea, coffee & water.  We received an invite to a wedding shower today and the couple requested money for their honeymoon.  (The parents are in the top 5% richest in our town).  I would rather put money down on a house, car or invest for retirement.

Re: H L Topic of Week Nov. 1-7 ~ Foods That Boost Brainpower!~

Oh dear, not what I need... an article telling me to eat chocolate... Stick out tongue just kidding, Muril, it's a good article!!

Just checking in to tell y'all that I'm still on the healthy eating wagon; I've had a few days of not-so-much self-restraint (especially with Halloween candy around) but overall I'm still doing well and hovering around the 113-114 mark, so I'm happy.

I did injure myself doing oblique crunches at the gym; I popped something in my side and doctor said not to lift weights for a month!!  ARgh.  Oh well.  Those of you who are my FB friends might have seen my pic of my back & arm muscles after 3 months of healthy eating and adding lifting back into my regimen.  So I'm a little disappointed I can't continue lifting for so long, but I don't want to injure myself further.  I am sure I won't lose too much muscle in the next 4 weeks.

OK, off to get the kids to bed and then hopefully I can catch up on some posts!

    Good morning.

Debi glad you are feeling better.  I don't ear raw cookie dough becasue of the eggs, but love it too. I ate it all the time when I was young and didn't have problems. We hear about things now that we didn't use to, who ever heard of lettece, spinach and things like that being a problem. Mel eats what I consider raw eggs all the time. I fry him an egg and spoon grease on it (ugh) but the yolk is raw, soft boiled eggs yolk is raw.    Had you been to the nursing home lately? Things go around there all the time.

Going to try to ride the bike early this morning, do better when I ride around 7/8. Then going to the base to buy groceries. Mel thinks I like to go to the base, but I would rather go to WM, but the base has better prices and no tax.

Hi to everyone and have a healthy day.

     Good morning everyone - Coffee
I'm feeling much better - was able to do a 3 1/2 mile run - - - - the weather is just so nice.

Hayburner - sorry you injured yourself doing oblique crunches - I know that sometimes those kind of crunches can get you in odd positions.
I have not seen your back and arm muscles - sounds like you are doing good though - - - but don't worry too much about taking off with the weight lifting -
If your muscles have been growing and shaping -  - - - - you will more than likely have "Muscle Memory" and when you start working them again, they will get back to where they were faster than at first.  Sometimes a rest does a body good.  :)

Dusta - Yes I have been to the Nursing Home lately - - I go almost every other day - - - - hopefully I didn't pick up something there - but it is the most likely answer, since I'm the only one around here that has been sick.
Oh well - guess I'll just have to wash my hands a lot.  LOL    ??????????????

Kris - Hope you are feeling better today.
I have never heard of a Request to give Money for a Honeymoon before - - -
I think your wedding plans sound just wonderful  :)  Low Stress.
My Mom & Dad , MIL & FIL - actually all offered me and dh $$$$$ if we would just elope and not have the 'wedding thing' - - - - I opted for wedding and it wasn't anything 'fancy' - - or expensive - - but after it was all said and done - - - I wished I would have taken the cash ! LOL

Well - guess I'll try to get some things done - - - - visiting the Nursing Home for one thing, so I will just have to be careful    Stick out tongue

Oh Natasha - The White Choc. Cranberry bars look so good - - - I think I may make them during the Christmas Holiday's but use Dark Choc. / Cranberry - - - - I'm not a big fan of White Choc., but love the dried cranberries w/dark choc.

    Talk to yall later  - - - - Debi

Jeannie, sorry that you hurt yourself! But like Debi said, youll be back to your old self in no time.

Dusta, I eat my eggs over easy... which they ARE flipped in the frying pan, but the yolk is still runny.Ive never heard of it being unhealthy to eat a runny yolk.

Debi,I bet those bars would be delicious with dark chocolate :)

Kris, I have heard of registering for a honeymoon, and then guests would donate money towards different things to do while couple is on honeymoon. For instance, at a friends recent wedding, someone purchased them a parasailing trip, etc. Its to help give them a honeymoon they otherwise wouldnt have been able to take... especially if they already have everything they need gift wise *shrugs* Its a pretty common things these days.

Good Morning to Muril, Dawn, Rebecca, and anyone else who may stop in today!

Last night we had my chicken fried steak. It turned out alright. I found the secret to making the crust crispy is to use crushed saltines AND flour instead of just flour.

    Plan for the day...

Breakfast - Frosted Cheerios, 2 pieces of toast, and coffee

    Lunch - Who knows

Dinner - Leftover chicken fried steak

Re: H L Topic of Week Nov. 1-7 ~ Foods That Boost Brainpower!~

also, I know I mentioned that I will be changing insurance at the begining of the year and having to leave my old doctor and insurance behind. Anyway... my new insurance sucks. Its an.. HRA I think they call it, where there is a 5 THOUSAND dollar deductable for me before they even start to cover the 80%... thats just for health care. For medicines there is a 600 dollar deductable. Crazy. My work will pay the first 1000 dollars for health care though, so since I dont go to the doc often, it should be fine. As long as Im under 1000 every year, I wont pay anything out of pocket (When we decide to have a child though, obviously will need to get private insurance) So... as I was supposed to be starting an antibiotic for the next 12 months, Im not even gonna bother starting it. I cant pay out of pocket for drugs that arent absolutely necessary for me. as is, Im going to start using walmarts 90 day supply for my blood pressure med (its the only med I take daily) for 10.00. Im not even gonna use my stupid insurance for medications.

The only thing Im concerned about is I have to have a new doctor like... first week of January. Because thats when my depo shot will be due. I dont have any room for play there *sigh*. Must find a doctor and get my records transfered... that way first week of January I can go get my shot.

I hate the stress of this. Today though, I refilled my blood pressure meds through mail order through my current insurance so that I will have some extra room for play with that. Also am gonna contact current doctor and get a written script to take to walmart so I have enough of that for room too (that way Im not having to ask a brand new dr for meds).

good afternoon~!!!  I"m on dh's work laptop so this won't be long. Our new computer is supposed to be here monday. Woohoo!

Boy my day has been hectic! Sams' been up since 7 and finally went down around 1:15 for a nap. She never stops! for those who stay home - and with mulitple kids - let me say I bow to you!!!  One wears me out, how you do it (or did it for those who don't have kids at home anymore) is amazing to me!

debi - glad you're feeling better!

jeannie - sorry you got injured, I hope you heal up quickly (((hugs)))

it's amazing how much we're all alike - simple weddings and it's like we know where the emphasis should be. I don't know how to get that into my BF's head, I guess it comes with experience? She's not thrilled about all this, but she goes along with more than I thought she would. Maybe she feels she can't say anything, but dh is starting to wonder if BF is getting used to "the good life" LOL!!! Who knows, we'll find out, right?  Like ya'll, I'd much rather take that money & put it to something like a mortgage, car payment, pay off some credit cards, something. That's not to say you can't (or shouldn't) have a nice wedding, honeymoon, etc. But for me personally I'd draw a line somewhere.

Hi rebecca, dusta, kris, natasha, joan and everyone!

I'm off to get some housework done. Maybe I'll get some reading done too. One can only hope!

Re: H L Topic of Week Nov. 1-7 ~ Foods That Boost Brainpower!~

    Good Evening Healthy Ones!

Miss Nancy was doing really well today mentally. She even asked how Lee(DH) was doing. I knew then she was with it. :) She hasn't done that in a while. DH and I have been to eat lunch with her before and she knows him. Anyway, she didn't eat as well as I had hoped but drank a lot and they are trying a new therapy on her to strengthen her swallowing muscles- interesting- kinda like the tinge unit that is used for pain- sends impluses to muscles to stimulate them. She did well with it but not sure if the goey stuff that they use to stick it on her neck will work out- we don't use tape on her skin because it is very fragile. Anyway, she had it on for 15 minutes and next week will get a couple of treatments with it.  I even ran to CVS while she was at therapy and stocked her up on detergent(she was out), dryer sheets, liquid hand soap, chapsticks(got two of the moisture blistex- for some reason a chapstick bandit keeps getting her chapsticks, lol), and some baby wipes.  I even had time to run by Subway for a 6 inch turkey sub with lots of veggies and had time to eat ...make her bed- stock her bathroom with towels and was crocheting when she got back from therapy. :) It was time for her lunch then so perfect timing.

Kris, too bad you are not my daughter, you have a good head on your shoulder. :) I am sure your parents are so proud of you! Great plans for your wedding- the expensive ones are such a waste of money- if they only would think.   On the other hand, if your fiance has more money than brains- there you go! :) JK! :)

Jeannie, good to see you are still doing well....I am fighting the battle of resisting small candy bars. Grrr! Sorry about your not being able to lift wts. for 4 wks. I am sure the time will fly by.

Dusta, I don't know why but I have never gotten the urge to eat raw cookie dough- doesn't seem appetizing. LOL But, frosting beaters, that is another story. :) I have OM eggs all the time and have never had a problem.

Debi, glad you are feeling better! Woo Hoo on getting in that run! You are doing better than me. :) I have never gotten anything at the NH(knock on wood) but I wash my hands a lot and use a ton of gloves, and use the hand sanitizer- it's a wonder my hands don't look like prunes. :) I haven't heard anyone coughing there lately so hopefully no one is coming in sick. I know I wouldn't....could be fatal to the poor fragile patients.

Natasha, the CF steaks sound yummy. Good idea on using the cracker crumbs.  For B'fast I had half a slice of banana bread(while working). Then, for lunch the 6 inch turkey sub with veggies and lite mayo. When I got home, I had two leftover hotwings and a string cheese and 5 multigrain crackers. For supper I had a LC meal- the butternut squash ravioli one and a glass of rose' wine. The candy bars are calling my name. :)

Dawn, lol on Samantha wearing you out! I think she must have the personality similar to our first born Keith. He was always doing something. It was really hard for me to keep up with him.  Talk about cardio! :) More than one is not a lot different, except they have squabbles and fight and scratch...lol, and take naps at different times if they decide to nap at all. :) Hope I didn't deter you from wanting another one. :) Seriously they keep each other entertained too when they are young! When our boys are over for supper, we really enjoy how they get along and the age differences aren't there anymore- it is like something happens somewhere and they are so close and best friends. Really cool! It's worth it!  :)

Well, Rebecca, how are things in your world today? Are the new ones doing well?

Off to relax and watch some tv with DH. Hugs to All!

     Good Friday Morning~!!!

Muril - it's so good to hear Miss Nancy is doing well. Wow, you got a lot done while she was in therapy. You go Girl~!!!

I"ve loved hearing about everyone's wedding - thank you so much for sharing the details :-)

going to be a cool day here - the sun is out, and it will be 62, but it's windy and there is that fall chill in the air. I need to cut the grass tonight when I get home - it's long overdue but it's either been too cold or wet this week.

my farmer's market has closed for the year :-(  I"m so sad. What am I going to do on my friday lunch hours now?!?!?

it's a busy day here - I have a lot of little tasks to finish. Sometimes days like this seem the longest LOL!!! Like you're working hard all day but you don't know what you did Tongue Tied  Oh well, it's a job right?!?

    today's eating plan -

breakfast - oatmeal with brown sugar & cinnamon

snack - trisciut (I"m addicted to the thin ones now Dusta!!)

lunch - vegeable stew (leftover from dinner last night)

    snack - yogurt

dinner - tonight it's meatloaf and mac & cheees.

hope everyone has a great day!!!

and I'm going to come clean since Muril has been so honest - I've eaten way too many small candy bars since halloween Embarrassed   dh stopped at walgreens for a prescription & walked out with 6 bags of halloween candy. His excuse? It was $1 a bag and how do you pass up a $1 bag of reese's, hersheys, etc?

tonight I'm putting what's left into the freeze so it's out of site.

Okay, Dawn, not only did I EAT some mini candy bars, but I BOUGHT some as well!!!!!!!!  What can I say, I see clearance and start filling the cart!  My bags are in the freezer, today while the kids are at school, or tonight after they are asleep, I will go thru their candy bags and start tossing and then make a chocolate bag which will go in the freezer, except for my son's, I will leave some out for him, and put the rest into a bowl where they all can have a piece a day, or whatever, after school.  I hate all that sour junk they make now (candy is SWEET thank you!) but the kids love it - I swear, we are damaging their taste buds!

I am pooped, I must admit, the worst thing about getting new kids in the middle of the school year is that they don't like to change their schools.  So, I have to drive them and I just hate it.  I don't mind the morning so much, these new girls go early and then I can come back to the house and get the other girls on the bus with no problem, but the afternoon I don't like having to stop what I'm doing and go get them.  I am lazy.  Anyway, with all the extra cooking and cleaning I'm pooped, but usually the plus side when I get new kids is that I always lose a couple of pounds with the burst of activity, but not this time, I think the candy bars have counteracted that!!!!!!!!  GRRRRRRRR

Last night made fried chicken (sort of, I just used the leftover buttermilk and some bread crumbs with some garlic and onion and S&P added, I just chop the chicken into small pieces, strips, whatever, and the kids loved it.  The 13yr old even had a snack of some more later in the evening!  Always good when folks want leftovers!

My daughter has this sensitivity thing where she feels like her pants are never tight enough (go figure!) so I've had to pin them, now mind you she only wears like leggings and soft fabrics so they're stretchy, so how tight can you make them? Anyway, yesterday I did her laundry so I just took all the pants and took them in with my sewing machine, so no more pins!  Woo hoo.!  then I had a mess of thread, so had to vacuum again ... my life is full of never ending fun moments ... or something!

Natasha, thanks so much for sending the box tops, Katie will be thrilled!

Have a wonderful day everyone, I miss chatting!  I will try and get back soon!

    XXOO everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
