    Healthy Choices 11/02/2009

Good morning everyone raining here again this is really getting old would love to see the sun one more time before snow sets in.

Nicole’s Birthday party was a great success and DD even brought out her new boy friend witch we had a good laugh about this as we discovered that DW had worked with him years ago at the children’s home, nice young man but not good enough for MY DD. LOL

Pat was feeling much better during the day and when DD came out she suggested that DW take her insulin shot at bed time instead of at suppertime this would help her get through the night and might clear up the stomach problem.

Jo Ann condolences to you and  DSiL may be her sister is lucky in a way, lived a good life and didn’t suffer or need to be in hospital for years hope you are rested now that is a lot of driving.

Mojazz thanks for the substitution sight think everyone can use that some time or another. Thanks.

Marti so sorry to hear you are having insurance problem on top of everything else that is going on in your life. Hate working with insurance company’s its like running around in circles good luck and prayers still going your way for Joe.

Shirley prayers going your way I hope you feel better soon are you taking any depression medication at all might help. What is the picture you have up is that you in younger days?

Have a nice day and God bless everyone.

Good morning Viny and everyone to come by today.

Leaving early for a hair apmt.  Nice to finally be going. It seems like my hair has grown two inches overnight. Expecting more sun today, then some rain tomorrow.

Lots of leaves are down and I'm trying to talk DH into buying a thingie that you connect to the back of the lawn tractor that will collect the mulched leaves into two large bins, instead of hand raking them again, this year. He is stubborn.  It costs about $300, which I say is worth it.  He's upset because he "thinks" he saw it on sale a month ago for $179.  Wish he would have saved the ad or gotten it then, but it's too late now for that price now.  It's just too much work to hand rake anymore.

Viny I hope your DD's suggestion about taking the shot at bed time will work for Pat.  You're right about the suddeness of an unnexpected death having it's own blessings for the deseased. And Irene did live a very full life.  I'm keeping her immediate family in my prayers.  Her sisters will miss her so much.

Shirley, I hope you'll be feeling better soon.  Have you and Holly gotten the flu?  I hope not, but you mentioned lots of sickness at your house lately, so I'm hoping both you and Holly will be feeling well soon.

Vammie, what a nice visit  you had with your DD yesterday,  Sitting out on the patio in that beautiful weather sounds like a nice and relaxing time that you were able to share together.

Maureen, thanks for finding the popcorn recipe.  I have a question on the caramel popcorn.  Once you make the caramel glaze and turn the popcorn into it, do you always, then bake it in the oven to harden the glaze before breaking it into pieces?  I found several WW recipes for it and they all call for putting on a baking sheet, then baking it at, anywhere from 250 degrees, to 350 degrees for an hour.

Time to go for now.  Still have one load of towels to fold before I leave.  Hope everyone has a nice Monday.  God bless. Jo Ann

Good Morning Viny & Jo Ann,  and those who come by later.  We had a more active crowd for the weekend post.
Viny, I'm so glad your weekend was good, this was good for you and Pat.  I hope taking the medication as your DD suggested helps Pat.  Is she going to call her doctor this morning.
We had rain Saturday and overcast yesterday, but today is beautiful.   Joe is wanting to feel better so we can ride up the mtn. for lunch one day this week,  he just needs out of the house for a while.
Shirley, Hope those sick in your household are better and I certainly hope you haven't had what we have had, just hard to shake.   Take care of yourself and stay out of the crowds
JoAnn, those hair cuts come around very often here too.  I have been having mine cut every 3 weeks, but think I may try to go 4 weeks during the winter.  I just don't handle length very well.
It's a shame that Frank didn't get the catcher for the leaves while it was on sale.  I use a leaf blower when I get them off the grass, but I have lots of places to blow them.  Most of the leaves are off the maples but the oaks want to hold on a bit longer.  I am leaving mine for the yardman this week.   I really like to blow them, but I have more important things that need doing this week.
That little cloud is hanging over my head again,  I have broken a crown, the same one that he worked on a few weeks ago, now it is to the point of hurting, so I go in a few minutes to get the results of what he will do.  I also just learned that we are getting dental insurance, at a high cost, but I'm going to take it, we've spend out more than the premium this year and my crowns are causing some problems so maybe it will be worth it.
Everyone have a great day....   Until later

    Re: Healthy Choices 11/02/2009

Good Morning!   I wish the time would stay like this year round, but no such luck.   It is so beautiful out there this morning – can’t wait for a day outside today.   We changed birthday plans till tonight and I’m bringing dinner over too.   The BF left for a business trip this morning, but I’m worried about him as he had a fever last night (one of the reasons I changed everything till today).   He went to InstaCare a few days back and was feeling much better until yesterday morning.   Ava is the only healthy one in that house, but who knows after all this.

Oh, dear, Viny, the “not good enough” issue.   Aren’t we bad about our DD’s?   Although this time I feel this guy is way good enough.   Your DD has me puzzled about this insulin situation.   Is Pat’s blood sugar ok after dinner with no insulin?   And I guess she doesn’t go low in the night with taking insulin before bed?   Very interesting concept.

Jo Ann, you know what’s so funny about our hair growing so fast is that it is supposed to slow down in the winter, but I don’t find that happens to me.

What DH does is mow the lawn and leaves and the mulched leaves go into the 2 bins on his riding lawnmower.   There is no way either of us could rake all these leaves.   I agree with you – there are better things for DH to do than spend time raking for hours.   $300 is well worth it.

Ditto what Viny said about Irene – I sure hope I can go out that way.   It’s harder on those left behind but such a joyful life right up till the end.

    That’s Barb’s recipe, I’m sure she’ll see your question.

Marti, I do so hope Joe feels well enough to take a drive, especially if it’s bright and sunny outside.

Shirley, sure hope it gets better at your house.   Sorry to hear those in the household are sick.

I’m going to clean up the kitchen and give the outside a chance to warm up.   Sure like being home on Mondays, this is so much better.   I got to visit with little one for a long time yesterday, and it gave Kim some time to help BF move his final load over to her house.   He sold his home and has moved in with her and Ava.   Hope this all works out.

    Good morning gang.

It is another beautiful day...cold, frosty and sunny.

Viny,  nice to have you starting us off again.  I hope Pat gets her  medication straightened out and starts to feel well again.

Maureen, thanks for moving the peanut butter popcorn recipe over.  Don't work too hard in the yard today.

Jo Ann, I will post that caramel corn recipe later today.  I have an appt. with the chiro this morning so am kind of in  a rush.

I have a hair appt. Wed.  I've been looking at cuts on line.  I think I'll just have her layer it and leave it the length it is for the winter, then maybe get a short cut.  Right now, it's in a kind of  bob.  My hair wants to wave so it's hard to get that sleek bob look.  I figure if I layer it I can just let it wave or do what it wants without all the bulk.

Viny, aren't you glad you don't have all these decisions ?Confused

Landen was very glad to have DH come home yesterday.  He crawled up in his lap and went to sleep.  I put him in his bed and he slept about an hr., then  woke up.  DH picked him up and he curled up in his arms and went back to sleep for another hr.

I'm off to my appt. and then who knows ????

    CARAMEL CORN

    7 1/2 quarts popped popcorn

    2 cups brown sugar

     1 cup BUTTER (not margarine)

    1/2 cup light corn syrup

    1 tsp. salt

    1 tsp. baking soda

( I add  a cup full  of peanuts)

Preheat oven to 200º.  In a saucepan, heat butter, sugar, corn syrup and salt.  Stir occasionally.  When mixture comes to a full boil, cook for 5 min.  Remove from heat and stir in baking soda, mixing well.  Pour caramel mixutre over popcorn and mix until evenly coated.  Bake for 1 hour in a large, greased roasting pan, stirring every 15 minutes.

    Re: Healthy Choices 11/02/2009

Hello everyone.  Late today as I had appointments for oil change and again with the shoulder surgeon.  Also had to fax background checks in to be investigated.  I am really sick of all the calls etc.  One lady came late yesterday and we had a really good visit and she seemed to be a good fit...then she called today and left the message that she really didn't want to work weekends as that's the only time she can see her grandchildren as they live out of town.  What a waste of my Sunday afternoon and evening.

Oh well...the oil is changed in the car and they washed it for me so it's nice and clean.  Had lunch with a friend at FishCity.  I had fish tacos and, oh my, were they ever good.  I'm not even sure what all was in there....I know for sure there was an apple cider vinegar slaw, the fish fillet, some stringy gooey cheese and all wrapped in a flour tortilla and lightly grilled.  It was served with a chipotle tartar sauce....yummmmmy!  Can't wait to have that again.  Saw the shoulder doc as I'm still hurting.  We are at an impasse....probably need to have a scope done and that, in itself, with cleaning out any inflammation, may do the trick....however, if he gets in there and finds a tear in the rotator cuff, it will need repair...and thats a long recovery.  I would not be able to use that arm for anything for 6-8 weeks and then would need aggressive rehab to regain my strength.  In other words, if I decide on the scope, I must be prepared to be away from home for an extended time...prob at least two months.  In a nursing home or rehab center...prob NH first and then when I can use the arm, transfer to an inpatient rehab.  I'd have to have plans for Molly in place etc etc etc.  Lots of pre planning would be done so we could proceed to repair if needed.  I'm going to take a round of Celebrex and see f that will help any.  Not really what I wanted to hear.

Another perfect day here...sunny and 75 with lite winds.  I'm going to go soak up some more Vit D.  I'll peek in later.

    Re: Healthy Choices 11/02/2009

Marti, I really do hope Joe is feeling well enough, soon, so that you can take your ride to the mtns for lunch.  How nice it would be for both of you to get out of the house to somewhere that isn't a doctor apmt.  Will keep that intention, especially in my prayers.  Sorry about your broken tooth.  Oh, darn, if it isn't one thing it's another!  Dental insurance is such a great idea.  We looked into it and it isn't very easy to even find and when you do, it's so expensive.  The one I found had a clause that it wouldn't cover anything major for two years. That doesn't seem fair, does it.

Maureen, what your DH does is exactly what I am hoping Frank will buy those two bins for his riding tractor, and do, this year.  He's out there right now, raking them onto a large tarp, that he pulls to the woods or the garden.  He's been out there doing it since we finished our early dinner and will only come in when it's dark outside.  Just too much work and takes way too long when there are so many ther things to do. Now he says, he might look at one, if I go with him tomorrow.  Grrrrr.   I guess I'll go after my doctor apmt tomorrow morning.

Barb, thanks for the Caramel Corn Recipe.  The next time I have the trips, whenever that will be, I'll make it.  I'm sure they'll love it.It sounds like Landen sure knows how to cuddle.  LOL  I'm sure your DH was really loving all of the snuggle time.

Vammie, I'm sorry the interviws aren't going more quickly for you.  It has to be so difficult finding just the right person.  I hope you have luck getting your shoulder back in shape and wit a minimum of any kind of surgery or treatment.  I'll be keeping that intention in my prayers, when I pray for you.  Just what you don't need right now, is to be away from home in a nursing home or rehab right before the holidays.  I hope you will hear good news and it isn't the rotator cuff.

Got my hair cut and some highlights, for the first time. When your hair is as dark as mine is it's difficiult to get highlights that don't stand out and look like stripes.  LOL  Rita, my hairdresser, did a good job, though. It all kind of blends in making my hair look lighter in genera.  I'll have to see if DH likes it in a few days.  Today, he said he loves it, which is his normal response when I come home. LOL  He'll let me know in little ways if he wants my hair back to it's natural dark color.  Rita said she can always cover the highlights and you won't even be able to tell I had them if I want it back to natural. Well, see.  I have to get used to it myself.  She did cut at least two inches off of it and it feels so short now.  I won't know if I can handle it this length till I shampoo and blow dry.  I also have to see how it works when I want to put it up.  Sometimes shorter is more difficult,  I hope this will work, though, because I'm tired of the length.

I baked salmon tonight and it came so good.  I camelized some sliced onions in a saute pan and then did some thin strips of red and yellow peppers too, then mixed them with the onions.  When the salmon was almost done, I topped it with the onions and peppers and they went back into the oven for just 5 minutes.  It was really delicious.  DH won't eat salmon if I do it just plain, so I make it this way just to get him to eat it.  A little more work, but worth it in the end.  I also made some oven roasted squash, acorn and yellow, with it. It turned out to be a good combination.

I haven't been in the mood for much TV lately, but am looking forward to seeing DWTS tonight.  Hope it's a good show. I saw part of the movie,  "Chicago", a few weeks ago and saw that  one of the celebs, Mya,  on DWTS  was in it.  She had a dancing part in the jailhouse number with Catherine Zeta Jones.  She did very well, but I thought that would qualify her as a professional dancer.  No wonder she's so good.  It doesn't seem quite fair to the other contestants, though, does it?

Well, time to give Mom a last call for the evening. Till tomorrow.... Jo Ann
