Thank you... I am not a real crafty person but the lady that taught me to do this.. she had all the patience in the world and I just loved it... The most fun is picking the material... and the not so much fun is cutting the material....LOL....

I think these are beautiful, and really want to try and make one.  I shopped all over today for 3" styrofoam balls.  All I could find were 2 1/2" and 4".  Now I am open for suggestions as to where to find 3" balls.

Hobby Lobby has them... You might could adjust the cutting to 2x2 and use the 2 1/2 in ball but I don't know... it would be a trial and error thing... keep looking....

I use to do a lot of folded star things. I have pot holders, place mats, pillows, etc. I have never tried the ornaments. Maybe this is something I need to try. You explained it well. Thanks.

    Oh my - how lovely!

You should be teaching crafts as a career!  You did an excellent job in showing all of us how to make these beautiful ornaments!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your skill!  These are so pretty!

I just thought of something... try and see if the floral dept. has 3" balls... they are softer in form but I've made them with floral balls too....the green ones...

I would like to tell you that I went to buy the sytrofoam and material today.

I do quite a few crafts but don't tackle "fabric"....EVER. My mom about fell over when I went into Hobby Lobby and came out with nothing but fabric. Big Smile

Thank you so much for your excellent step by step instructions.

Thank you to everyone for the nice comments... I am so glad I could help you learn this.. and I'm going to write to the lady that taught me to do them and tell her she has helped a whole new group to learn to make the ornaments...

I have two more pics that show the four colors...pretty good...

Very nice job, Weleetka. Your photos do a great job of explaining.

I found directions for this folded star potholder, from an old issue of Crafting Traditions. If you’d like them,  click on “Contact” at the top of this post, then select “Send joni_mae a private message.” Make “Folded Star” your subject line and add your e-mail address in the message box. (Please don’t post your e-mail address here on the board — you could get all kinds of spam in your in-box).

I’ll e-mail you a color .pdf file with the directions. (I’ll answer as quickly as I can, but please remember, I get a lot of e-mail, and I don’t work around the clock!)

For the 4 color ones, are you just putting the layers closer together?
