    • I was going to do this while I watched the Saints game but I was too busy yelling and screaming for the Saints to stop the Falcons.  They are on the way now one win against the Falcons but we have to play them again on their home turf.

Yesterday was very satisfying.  The 3 of us had lunch (2 of us had quiche) and then we went to the huge rehab center.  We looked in Evelyn's room and she wasn't there so we asked an aide who looked in and said the lady WAS Evelyn.  She has lost a lot of weight and her usual coif is now snow white and not beautician-set.  None of us recognized her but when she began to talk we certainly recognized her!  She was lucid, funny, and sharp.  Like I asked her if she could walk and she said yes, but she wasn't going to let them know!  While we were there an aide wheeled in a lady who was deciding which room she would accept!   After a while she chose "ours".  They wheeled her to her bed and suddenly she yelled, "Get me out of here!  Those people (the 3 of us) are crazy!"  So they took her out for a while.  I stopped at the desk and asked if E. is safe, that we had been yelled at, and one nurse said, "You should hear what she called me."  I said. "Lots of luck, " and she said, "I'll need it."   While  talking to E. it became clear to me that she was depressed and that is what set off this whole thing - said she didn't care about anything, etc.

Today I have to get a new battery for the doorbell - it sounds as if it has been strangled.  Nancy B

    Hi,

      Good Morning to all,

This will be quick run through. Got to go check some back posts in awhile to see how all are.

DH not well at all.  I was able to get him to Dr’s yesterday but a struggle.

Fell last night here at home but fortunately (if you can call it that) his fall was stopped by the big overstuffed chair so he ended up in heap there.

      Hopefully today will be better.

Just know that I am checking on all of you. Sty well and lots of love   Sandy

    Good morning, CS.

Hey, ZORA, how about them Saints? I did see the end of the game. But, I was switching between the baseball game, football and DWTS.

MARGARET E, continued prayers for the op to go well today. Hope the deliveries by you are more on time than they are for us. I so dislike when they say, between 9 and 5.

NANCY B, nice lunch, my choice, often. Glad your friend was ready to visit, but sad she is feeling so down. And, it seems like the new roommate will not be a good one to have.

{{{{SANDY}}}} Praying things will get better.

Quiet, home day for me. And, that's good because the following days are busy ones.

Hugs and prayers for all CS.

    Nancy Z.

Good morning, Thought I might wake up everybody who is still sleeping. lol I just thought the rooster was cute.

Zora - Congrats to the Saints. Never have been a Falcons fan. I really don't watch a lot of Pro ball. I'm more College ball and NASCAR. How's the finger?

Margaret E. - You are forgiven for being a little late. You had a great reason. Hope you enjoyed the coffee and visit while doing your good deed for the day. Keep us posted on DS's MIL. Praying all goes well.

Nancy B. - Glad you enjoyed your lunch and visit with your friend. Do hope the lady decides on another room. Your friend certainly doesn't a roommate like that.

Sandy - Hope things will go well with the Dr. (((HUGS))) and prayers for DH and you. Glad the chair was there to catch him.

Nancy Z. - Don't you love those quiet days at home.

Will check back later to see how the rest of the crowd are doing.

    Hugs,

    Brenda

Morning all…hope you all have a wonderful day. Dad looks stronger each day to me. The therapists said they think he is doing well. I haven’t been told how long he will have to be there…it’s been a week (Fri) so….  I am still trying to track down his clothes…all of them are missing except the sweat suit that I took yesterday to wash and the long sleeve knit shirts I took yesterday. I think they are in the laundry but they took the clothes Fri and should have been back Sat but…!! They were still gone yesterday evening!! But the 3-11 shift didn’t know anything. I will be tracking them down today!! When we left last night, I heard bagpipe music…we went in search of the wonderful sounds…found our McGuire’s Bagpipe Band practicing in the tennis center’s field…we got to hear a little bit but…it was spirit-lifting!! I so enjoyed that!!
DH was thrilled I cooked yesterday!! We are both so sick of fair food!! I made pork steaks, rice & gravy and fresh field peas…ohhh yummmm   And tonight’s menu…spaghetti with meat sauce, crisp green salad and garlic bread…DH will be in *hog* heaven!! He’s a spaghetti freak!! LOL Have to go to the grocery store later then I have a dental appt for cleaning at 1pm.
Zora, thanks for opening us up each day…you do such a wonderful job!!
Margaret, sending prayers for DS’s MIL. It’s nice to hear that your friend “came around” and realized that she asked for something that she should not have asked. Glad ya’ll had a good visit.
Nancy B, oh, my!! Maybe you should call the social worker and let her know that you are VERY concerned about your friend’s mental status (depression) with the wacky room mate!! Yikes!! Bless her heart!!
Sandy, so sorry that your DH is falling. Will keep BOTH of you in my prayers!! It’s not easy on either one of you.
Nancy Z, I hope you are resting up for your busy, busy days!!

Waving to all…sending hugs and prayers and filling up those baskets…

Good morning everybody! I am here, I am here, I am here!!!! Last week was spent elk hunting with DH. We coverel lots and lots of beautiful ground and one day was even on top of the world when we went up, up and up this road we had never gone on before. Wow was it fantastic up there. But narry an elk did we see. Lots of deer, antilope and even turkeys but no elusive elk. Darn!

Today is about 18 degrees out and evercast. No telling what it will do today. It goes day to day---snow, rain, sun or fog. Hmmmmm inquiring minds want to know.

Sandy-Sure do hope you get DH to the DR today and things go better. Hugs to you both.

Zora-Thanks for the hug and wave. They are much appreciated. Hope your finger is all better soon.

Tippy-Thanks to you also for the sweet thoughts. I would say wow to all your cooking and all you do, but really it is normal for you isn't it. Smile!!! What would you do if you ever had nothing to do?

Helen-Hope there hasn't been any more beeping going on at your house. At least you didn't think the fog horn was in your head. What's new down your way, any exciting hangar shoppng lately?

Here is a recipe I tried yesterday and boy are they good. It is from the Start Fresh booklet I recieved in the mail.

    Banana Oat Breakfast Cookie

1 large banana, mashed (1/2 cup)

1/2 cup peanut butter of your choice

    1/2 cup honey

    1 tsp vanilla

    1 cup oats

    1/2 cup whole wheat flour

1/4 cup nonfat dry milk powder

    2 tsp cinnamon

    1/4 tsp baking soda

1 cup dried cranberries or raisins

    Heat oven to 350

    Makes 12 cookies

Mix all together and drop onto lightly greased cookie sheet.

Flatten with small spatula dipped into water to a 2 3/4 inch round, about 1/2 inch thick.

Bake for 14-16 minutes or until browned.

Cool and store in an airtight container.

DH is now up so I better go yak at him before he goes to work.

    Hugs to you all,

    ~~Leisa~~

Gppd morning CS (& you, too, Leisa!  <g>)

Today, the tech is due here to transfer stuff from old old computer to the new one #4 had built for me...keeping my fingers crossed that it's a better fit for me.  My DD will get my old new one.  Never, in my wildest dreams did I ever think I'd have 3 computers that all belong to me, in my house at the same time.

Leisa, I pictured you snorting coffee out your nose if you read that I can't discern between the sounds of a smoke alarm & a clock alarm.  My other shopping finds are fluorescent night lights, from BB&B, and a low vision keyboard #3 discovered.  Ordered it from Overstock.  It has bright yellow keys w/black symbols...hope I can get used to it easily.

Sandy, hugs for both you and John.  It's got to be scary for you.  Wish him well.

Cilla, sorry that laundry problem has shown its ugly head at the NH.  I went through that with my uncle.  I sewed big labels on his sweat suits, front and back, & they still disappeared.  He ended up with nothing of his own, not even shoes.  It's pitifull.  Many hugs for both of you.

Gotta' get ready for tech...that means cleaning up the computer area!  (smile)

Waves & hugs to all - Helen

    Re: 11/03/09 Cookin' Seniors Chat

    Hello Everyone:

Boy! We got DGS home and then things began to snowball! Got put in charge of a dinner for the County Fire Assoc. Meeting. Wasn't going to go because of all the bad stuff happening in the organization, but then our dept. is hosting this month and the lady that used to do it quit the FD, so guess who? I am also "trying " to get some new stuff ready for the art show on the 4th of Dec. Last week my first cousin came and spent the week. Our mom's didn't get along too well so we really hadn't seen much of each other in the last forty years. Life just went on. Well! We had a blast and discovered that we had so much in common. We spent the week just running around and hanging out. I think that it must be what it might feel like to have a real close sister. The twins have each other so I have always been odd man out in the family. NEVER AGAIN. LOL. Anyway we had lots of long talks and I think it was very healing for both of us.

Harriot is going in for his "big boy operation" in the morning so I brought him in this AM. I wanted to monitor his intake and I can't really catch him in the evening. What a baby. He is suffering separation anxiety to the nth degree even though he can see and hear Ozzie and Desilu through the french doors. He was meowing all morning. At one point we just had to laugh. You know that "fake" cry that toddlers sometimes do when they can't get their own way? Well, we learned that cats do the same thing. He went Meowooowooowooow, kind of warbly like. DH said" I have heard that cry somewhere before" Cracked us up. I finally found a box in which he could hide and he is quitely hiding now.

Since we have eaten at our friends home the last two Thanksgivings, and she has not been feeling too well lately I offered to cook this year. One of her kids & family are coming from Enterprise, but we see them often and they are just like family. I was suprised when she took me up on my offer. i guess she is not even feeling as well and I thought she was. It is good. I need to keep busy as we approach the "bad anniverseries".

Liesa, would like some Elk please. Haven't had any in years.

Sandy, So sorry about DH. Could it be an inner ear problem? Nancy B. My DD worked in a home for years. She said sometimes they put the difficult ones in with the depressed ones because sometimes the depressed one got so mad at the difficult one it helped to perk them up. They found out they did care about something- getting rid of the room mate. Weird, but I can see the logic.

Cilla, good luck on the clothes. Mom had beautiful clothes and they were all ruined. We ended up keeping her in K Mart jerseys that I embellished to satisfy her need for glitter and Bling.

Tippy, I know you enjoy the cooking. Helen, I have seen those keyboards. They are wonderful! Glad you are getting one of them.

Oh, Good news. DS is finally working again. It is tough up in the UP and his unemployment was about to run out. I am so glad, because I think he was starting to get depressed. I can't believe it. For a whole three months only good things have happened. Maybe we can catch a break here

Oh Oh, here comes Harriot wailing like a banshee!  Everyone stay well.  R

Back again for a minute...got the computer table cleaned off, talked with # 3 for a few minutes, ate a PB on wh.wheat sammy, & will try to be mentally ready for the tech.

Thanks for sharing what you observed about the keyboard, Randi.  I haven't seen any 'in person'.

You knew I'd be on that oatmeal - banana recipe, didn't you, Leisa?  Thank you!

    Re: 11/03/09 Cookin' Seniors Chat

I'm here a tad bit earlier today. Yeah!

The saurkraut is canned. We got 17 quarts and 13 pints out of the crock we made this year. I wound up baking another bushel of winter squash for the freezer as we just cannot find enough people to give it all away. I'm sure it won't go to waste with the cooking ministry in full swing.

ZORA~~Hope the finger is feeling better every day. Sounds like an ugly injury. blech!

You asked about help with meals. There are other ladies who make their own meals and we take turns delivering to families in need. That was my round of meals for this week. There were just so many meals this time because of a sudden surge in emergencies in our church. Since I love to bake I usually volunteer to make the desserts to add to some other meals going in that have no sweets included. Eyes usually light up over home made pies and I love to make them.

When there are special diet restrictions we work around them too. Turns out having a family with so many diet do's and don'ts has helped. LOL

RANDI~~Glad to hear you got your DGS home and I hope things are better for him after doing hard labor for you all summer. 'grin'

Wished I could see you all set up at the art show. I know you do beautiful work. I still picture that one you did of the "band". Just loved it!

Good luck to your kitty. Poor baby.

I am so glad you linked up with your cousin. You seem to have found more than a long-lost relative in her friendship.

HELEN~~I sure am cheering you on with the new computer and the new keyboard. It's so good that they take all things into consideration when coming out with new computer products to meet needs. Yeah, for them for actaully caring enough to provide that.

MARGARET~~Well, how long did you have to sit and wait for the delivery? I'm glad you have resolved the issues that stood between your friendship. Sounds like it was a whole lot of forgiveness on your part. Bless your heart!

NANCY B~~So glad you had a great lunch and got to see your friend when she was perked up. I do hope they make the wisest decision for her with that room mate.

((((SANDY))))  Here's hoping your DH's doctor's appointment went well. I am so sorry to hear he is having trouble with falling. Very scary stuff. My dad has been going through that too and I worry about him.

Love your Michigan siggy! I'm straight West of the "flowers". LOL

NANCY Z~~We might as well cheer on the Saints, as long as we don't have a whole lot to brag about this week. 'sigh'

Congrats to your DH for the succesful bow hunt. You will have plenty of venison in the freezer this year. We have been without for a year now.

BRENDA~~Love the rooster!  How cute. If they only looked that cute when they were waking me up too early. Now days it's the neighbor's dogs who keep us up.

Who do you cheer for in Nascar? ....Or will I get you in trouble with ROSIE?

Boy, CILLA~~I would get to the bottom of that mystery in a hurry. No excuse for that. I've know people who wouldn't let them touch their loved ones laundry and brought it home for that very reason. You would think it couldn't just "dissapear". grrrrrr!

Your meals sound wonderful. My DH is a big fan of spaghetti and lasagna meals too. Come to think of it he just likes to eat. LOL

LEISA~~I'll bet the view on top was phenomenal. We had some of those "mountain top" experiences last week in CO.  Love, love, love it.

Did you have a lot of snow to deal with while hunting? I'm sorry you didn't get an elk. That is some of the best game I think I've ever eaten. We miss DH not going anymore. It got crazy busy with hunters where he had been going. He doesn't want to deal with crowds on the hunt.

You know sometimes I like having "nothing" to do. Even if I do fill the time up with something, at least it is something relaxing.

Are you done with the redecorating at your house????

PENNY~~Your poor DD. Bronchitis is no good. I'm sending her healing vibes friend.

There shouldn't be too much time in the fields left anymore. I know most of the crops are in here. We can here the corn dryers from our neighbors' place this time of year. Kind of a soothing sound.

Hope your having a good catch up day, ROSIE

Waving to you BEVERLY. Hope the trip went well.

Well, I need to go mix up my meatloaf for supper. I kept out some of the buttercup squash to go with it along with some greenbeans and a couple of the last slices of apple strudel that I set aside for us.

((((MABEL))))  ((((SHERRY))))  ((((LOIS))))  ((((GRACE))))  (((CATS))) ((((DARLENE)))   ((((SALLY & COLLEEN)))  (((LYNNE)))   ((((PAT))))

JEANNE if your getting a chance to at least peek in....Howdy!

If I missed saying hi by name....This is me waving to you....Wink

Here's the Hot Wing dip recipe I promised...

    HOT WING DIP

( I got it from Donna De, but guess it was originally posted by 'mary217' way back in 2004)

2 large cans of canned chicken meat. (11 or 12 oz. each)

2 - 8 oz. packages of cream cheese

1 cup of ranch, Caesar or Blue cheese dressing (I used Original Ranch)

1/2 cup of hot sauce (I didn't use a whole 1/2 cup but added a can of diced green chilis instead) YUM

Mix all the ingredients together. Place in a baking dish and bake at 350º for 30 minutes.

Serve with Tortilla chips. It was good with crackers too.
