I found them at Bed, Bath and Beyond when I stopped in there after a diabetic seminar this morning and was gabberflasted to see such a low price on them. Maverick has a MSRP of $24.99 on them.
Now let me tell you a little about a digital thermometer, in case you've never used one. First off, you'll never have a dry over cooked, or raw undercooked piece of meat again. That alone should be worth 10 bucks to anyone. This thermometer has a digital readout base with a wire and metal probe that sticks into the meat and sends the temperature to the readout. That means you no longer have to open your oven door stick a thermometer into the meat you're cooking to know what temp it's at, just walk up to your kitchen counter and read the base. There are pre-set temps in the thermo and all you have to do is chose the type of meat and how done you want it to be and it will sound alerts when the meat is almost done, done and over done. And the nice thing about this thermo is, it insn't just for the oven. you can use it in your crockpot, in a countertop electric roaster oven or in a smoker too. I wouldn't recommend using it in a BBQ grill though as it says not to use this model's cable above 400º because the plastic on the probe wire could melt. I never get my smoker hotter than 300º and in truth mostly run it at 225º so this is safe for that. They DO have models that use an all metal probe cable that work fine in charcoal or gas grills, but those cost a lot more and aren't on sale right now.
I've had one of these type of thermometers for about 10 years now and don't know what I ever did without one. So if you want that perfect juicy roast turkey this Thanksgiving, or chickens any time of the year, or a nice juicy slice of rare, medium rare or well done prime rib or any beef roast or even nice juicy pork loins or roasts that aren't dry, consider buying one of these thermometers while they are less than half price. For $10.00 apiece, they make great Christmas gifts too, especially for someone just married or on their own and learning to cook meats. These things are the perfect confidence booster that will let them turn out perfect cuts of meat every time.
If you or someone in your family use a smoker, these make the job much easier because you don't have to keep opening the smoker to check the meat temp and losing all your heat and smoke.
And if you or your guy are a griller, one of the models that have the steel probe cable and are made for smokers and grills, even though they are a little pricey are well worth the cost and make nice gifts too. No more wondering if that chicken or pork loin is done inside! They even have models that give you the readout base, plus another base thet the temperature gets sent to by radio waves that you can clip to your belt while doing yardwork or set beside you while watching TV or whatever else you want to do. You're not tied to the kitchen, the grill or the house using those models.
You can see this thermometer at the Maverick website listed below, but if you want one at this price I recommend skedaddling over to Bed, Bath & Beyond, pronto!
