    Maverick Meat Thermometer ET-87 ~ $9.99 @ BB&B

I found them at Bed, Bath and Beyond when I stopped in there after a diabetic seminar this morning and was gabberflasted to see such a low price on them. Maverick has a MSRP of $24.99 on them.

Now let me tell you a little about a digital thermometer, in case you've never used one. First off, you'll never have a dry over cooked, or raw undercooked piece of meat again. That alone should be worth 10 bucks to anyone. This thermometer has a digital readout base with a wire and metal probe that sticks into the meat and sends the temperature to the readout. That means you no longer have to open your oven door stick a thermometer into the meat you're cooking to know what temp it's at, just walk up to your kitchen counter and read the base. There are pre-set temps in the thermo and all you have to do is chose the type of meat and how done you want it to be and it will sound alerts when the meat is almost done, done and over done. And the nice thing about this thermo is, it insn't just for the oven. you can use it in your crockpot, in a countertop electric roaster oven or in a smoker too. I wouldn't recommend using it in a BBQ grill though as it says not to use this model's cable above 400º because the plastic on the probe wire could melt. I never get my smoker hotter than 300º and in truth mostly run it at 225º so this is safe for that. They DO have models that use an all metal probe cable that work fine in charcoal or gas grills, but those cost a lot more and aren't on sale right now.

I've had one of these type of thermometers for about 10 years now and don't know what I ever did without one. So if you want that perfect juicy roast turkey this Thanksgiving, or chickens any time of the year, or a nice juicy slice of rare, medium rare or well done prime rib or any beef roast or even nice juicy pork loins or roasts that aren't dry, consider buying one of these thermometers while they are less than half price. For $10.00 apiece, they make great Christmas gifts too, especially for someone just married or on their own and learning to cook meats. These things are the perfect confidence booster that will let them turn out perfect cuts of meat every time.
If you or someone in your family use a smoker, these make the job much easier because you don't have to keep opening the smoker to check the meat temp and losing all your heat and smoke.
And if you or your guy are a griller, one of the models that have the steel probe cable and are made for smokers and grills, even though they are a little pricey are well worth the cost and make nice gifts too. No more wondering if that chicken or pork loin is done inside! They even have models that give you the readout base, plus another base thet the temperature gets sent to by radio waves that you can clip to your belt while doing yardwork or set beside you while watching TV or whatever else you want to do. You're not tied to the kitchen, the grill or the house using those models.

You can see this thermometer at the Maverick website listed below, but if you want one at this price I recommend skedaddling over to Bed, Bath & Beyond, pronto!

Hi John, long time, no connect.  I'll try to remember to stop at BB&B tomorrow and see if we have these available here.  What'll they think of next?

A friend of mine recently got a cake pan at BB&B.  She used it to make brownies (from a mix) and they were overdone.  It was one of those pans that cuts your brownies or cakes while they bake.  She had a hard time getting the gizmo out, and her brownies were hard on the edges.  Do you think that was from the extra metal inside the batter during baking?  I'm interested in one of those pans, but don't want to be making hard, crusty brownies.

    Maverick® Voice Alert Thermometer

    Maverick® Voice Alert Thermometer

This voice alert thermometer is the only digital thermometer that anticipates when your meat or poultry will be done. The unique voice alert setting announces time remaining from 30, 20, 10 and 5 minutes to 1 minute from fully cooked, and then a countdown activates when 10 seconds of cooking time remains. An optional beep alert can also be selected. Preset doneness levels, based on USDA-recommended temperatures, include rare, medium rare, medium and well done. Temperatures can also be adjusted to suit individual preferences. The poultry setting has a separate reminder for basting every 30 minutes. Includes three AAA batteries.

Aren't these like the ones that Alton Brown is always using on his shows?  They sound wonderful and I wish we had a BB&B here but did mention it to some friends that may want to get them for gifts (maybe me?) but they sound wonderful!!

Thanks for posting, hope you're feeling well, good to see you posting.

I diid remember to stop at BB&B, but the only remote thermometers were $39.99.  And I didn't find that cut-as-you-bake pan, either.

By the way.  Did you all know that B,BB&B coupons don't expire?  I know there's an expry date on them, but they still take them.  I used one in December that had an expr'y date of the previous August, once.  Lynn in Cabot

You can order the voice alert model on line.

Lynn - the edge pan (or cut as you go) tends to have crispier edges for people that like the edges on a Brownie etc . There seems to be 2 schools of thought here- Those that trim the edges (I am one of those) or those who prefer the edge slices.and would prefer slices to have an edge. There was a post on the BB -  I will see if I can find it.~A

John - you should get a commission for doing such a great sales pitch. lol I have a different brand, but I absolutely don't know how I ever cooked meat properly without it. I gave one to each of my adult children 2 years ago as stocking stuffers and they love them also. I think I will go to BB&B to see if I can find one at such a great price. If I do find it, I will buy some more for gifts. Thanks for the heads up/

I used mine last year at Thanksgiving and found that my turkey was done 30 minutes before the amount of time I would have roasted it according to the minutes per pound recommended. I had a juicy turkey instead of a dried out one that would have resulted from cooking by the chart vs. the probe.

Well, pooh, I checked the B B & B site and all I could find was the voice alert that was mentioned above in another post. I like the idea of NOT opening the oven.

Strangest review I ever read.   Surprise     Is this English? Rigorous Truth? I did understand from this that there is optional beeps if one prefers that over the voice setting.

That is a "weird" review for sure.  I went to our local BB&B but they didn't have this one.  I'll be near there tomorrow so I printed out what they show online to see if I just missed it somewhere.

I went back and bought 3 more of these and right now there's 3 of them being used in the smoker. One in some rubbed, bone-in split chicken breasts, one in a rubbed chuck arm roast and the other in a pork loin that I cut in half, brined overnight and will smoke to 140º, then remove it and cut it into smoked chops to freeze for later.
