I used colored sugar instead of food color spray and Hershey's Kisses instead of peanut butter cups due to a peanut allergy. It was a huge hit and so fun to make. Thanks for the great idea!

Re: Candy Land Cake

I made this cake for my daughter's 5 birthday. I did home-made cake and frosting. It turned out wonderful! The only thing I did different was instead of using food color spray, I used colored sugar and sprinkled it all over the bare parts and it made it taste much better too! Had a hard time finding candy canes in summer time so I did without.

Re: Candy Land Cake

This is a really fun cake. The kids love to decorate it, and you get rid of candy from past holidays fast! I made two cakes last year for all 8 of the cousins arriving. They were divided into two groups to decorate, and we had a contest for best cake. Thanks!

Re: Candy Land Cake

Hi! It's in the Aug/Sep 2007 issue. There is a picture of the original version as well. I like them both, and will incorporate my own ideas into the one I will make for my son's 5th birthday in April! I think it will be really fun and not too stressful, such as last year's double layer cake I made shaped like Mickey Mouse head with all his featues plus a hat! It came out cute but I thought I would have to stab myself with the frosting knife before I was done. This at least is a sheet cake to build on top of. I'm going to start collecting (and eating!) various, interesting and pretty candies now.

Re: Candy Land Cake

Can any one tell me what issue of Taste of home this recipe was in, I would like to see the picture in the magazine and I can't figure out what edition it was in. "Instead of piling on candy haphazardly, I thought it should look like the Candy Land board game." The birthday boy and his friends and family members loved it!

View this recipe now
