It said to roll it out into a 15" circle but I could not get it to roll out at all and when it rolled out a little bit it just started to form back into a ball. It was completely thawed so what am i doing wrong??? I'm hoping there is someone that can help me with this!! (This is really unlike them! They are extravagant gift givers and always go way overboard!) Anyways, my husband and I are thrilled! We have already compiled a list of who we want to give gifts to and a list of ideas. I'm looking for more ideas and ideas for some Christmas crafts, too!

Our list includes:

My parents, his parents, his college-age sister and brother, my married sister, her husband and two teenage boys, my (will-be) recently married brother and his wife, my college-age brother, some aunts and uncles, an eleven-year-old boy, a six-year-old boy, and the staff my husband works with.

Our ideas include:

Aprons, blankets, totes, a survival in a mug kit, movie themed gift baskets, pancake mix, a cape, scented pine cones, gift baskets with cocoa mix, peppermint marshmallows and pretzezl sticks.

We have talked about maing our own Christmas wrap, we'll see. Also, we're going to make cinnamon-applesauce ornaments to go with each gift.

You're ideas and suggestions are welcome! Also, we have a three year old son and one year old daughter. We want to make some of their gifts. Thanks !

Making waffels

This may sound like a very silly question to some but I'm asking it anyway. It was on page 28.

http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/Egg-Salad-Sandwiches

I had never had egg salad before and thougth the recipe sounded very good. I am sorry to say that I did not like it at all. But I do not think it was the recipe, I'm pretty sure it's me. I don't think I would like any egg salad. Which I find fairly strange as I like macaroni salad (boiled eggs with salad dressing) but I guess for some reason one I like and one I do not.

I really was not going to post my review on this recipe, as I thought well no one is really going to care that I didn't like it. And just because I did not like it certainly does not mean that others will not like it.

But I decided to post this review anyway, because my husband did like this. He liked it alot and he has requested that I make it for him to pack in his lunches. As this is much cheaper than deli meats and cheeses (what he usually takes in his lunch) I have decided that the extra effort on my part (and really not that much extra as this was a fairly simple recipe) will save us money in the long run.

With the economy the way it is and prices climbing saving money anywhere I can has become a goal. So I am planning on making up a big batch of this every other Saturday (I don't want him to get tired of it) so that he can pack it in his lunch during the week. The magazine says that it costs 80 cents a serving (I think mine may have been a little higher - simple due to where we live).

If you like egg salad (or if your not sure) then I am assuming based on my husband's request that this is an excellent egg salad recipe.

I hope that maybe someone will find this review helpful!

Melissa Thomas

21 free recipes

I just paid for my Simple & Delicious magazine, and was promised 21 free recipes. I signed in and clicked on one recipe, and then couldn't get back to get the rest of the free recipes. What gives?

Mustard Ham Strata

This recipe was in the March/April 2009 Issue on page 44

http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/Mustard-Ham-Strata

I made this for dinner last week. I was planning on making it for breakfast but I forgot that it had to refrigerate overnight so I whipped it up in the morning and then let it refrigerate all day and we had it for dinner. It was wonderful! Very easy to make but tasted as if I had spent a lot of time in the kitchen.

I used a loaf of French bread cut into cubes and I did not remove the crust. Since it was refrigerated all day with the egg mixture you could not even tell that the crust was still on the bread. It was very soft and yummy.

I also bought a bag of Cheedar/Monterary Jack Cheese blend instead of buying the two different cheeses and just used two cups of that (we like ours cheesey).

The last thing I did different was I only used 2 tsp of ground mustard instead of the 3 called for in the recipe. My two sons and I are not big mustard fans so I didn't want the mustard taste to be strong. We actually could not taste it at all so maybe next time I will use all 3 tsp and see how that works.

I served this with fried potatoes and orange slices. It was very good and very easy. And now that I have made a very large note to myself on the recipe that this needs to be made up the night before it will make a wonderful Sunday morning breakfast that will allow me to put a hot, great tasting breakfast on the table before church without having to get up any earlier than usual.

I have also made a note to myself to plan on having this after ham holidays (Easter, Christmas). This will make an excellent and fairly inexpensive way to use up those leftovers.

Melissa Thomas

Chicken leg quarters

On page 54, the recipe for Soy Garlic chicken calls for 6 chicken leg quarters. Is that the same as chicken bottoms (ie. drumstick plus that triangular part)?

Sweet Pickle recipe

My grandmother who has passed away used to make THE BEST sweet pickles using canned sour pickles, sugar, cloves, and whatever else. She would cut up the sour pickles, empty the jar, then add her ingredients and let it sit. Anybody have something like that out there?

bread pudding

does any one have a recipe for bread pudding made with Crispy cream donuts ?

How do you weight fish -- before or after cooking?

I'm assuming before but not sure.
