I've learned more and more hens are taking up residence in urban areas and even good sized cities. I'd love to hear from anyone who has a backyard flock in an "untraditional" neighborhood for chickens. And especially, if you're a city person, what motivated you to consider starting a flock and why do you find it satisfying?

Eager to hear from you!

Cross stitch pattern

Where can I find a cross stitch pattern for a giraffe? I'm going to post them here as several have wanted to learn to make them... It will take me a while because there are many pictures..

The first picture shows what you need to make the ornaments...

You need to pick out the material that you like, three colors that blend together and look nice..the shiny materials are harder to fold... pick material that fold well...

You can also make them with four colors of material and they make prettier ornaments but I would start off with three....

Cut your material 2 1/2" X 2 "....If you don't have a cutting board and rotary cutter... I would get one..

When I get my material.. I spray starch a bit and iron... then cut... to me the material cuts better and folds better if you do that...

you will need many, many straight pins, pearly top colored pins and ribbon that matches....and 3" styrofoam balls.....

friends

I'm looking for friends to chat with/e-mail online.
My name is Kim and I've enjoyed several Reiman Publiations for years--Country, Country Woman and Farm & Dairy are my favorites. I've missed the pen pal section in Country Woman in the last few years. I found a similar post asking what happened to it and read the response.

I'm not sure if this is permissible on this site, if people were interested, could we request snail mail pen pals through this avenue? I understand the benefit of online chat and find that enjoyable as well. I, like many I think, long for the simple handwritten letter. It seems that so many readers enjoy tremendously their responses from the "Readers are wondering..."section of the magazines. However, if you don't have a specific request, you can't benefit from the contact that so many readers do.

If anyone has any feedback, thoughts, etc. I'd love to hear them! Especially if this is not the proper place for pen pals, I understand!

I'm a stay-at-home mom, 39, with two precious sons--one is 19 mos. and the other 4 years old. We've moved several times in the last few years (due to my husband's career) and always have to start from scratch making new friends. It would be nice to have some consistent pals via mail!

Thanks!
