I especially agree with everything SpicyChicken has said - and many others.

We pay a LOT in property taxes every year and over two thirds of those taxes are for the schools. I cannot state strongly enough how much I object to my money going to pay for these girls and their offspring. I strongly object to schools supplying birth control and pregnancy tests. Our schools are there to educate our children, not encourage them to have babies and then have us pay to take care of them.

Finally, I think it is outrageous that these underage, minor children have 'privacy rights'. Parents have every right to know their children are having sex with birth control supplied by tax payers' money - and then the school supplying pregancy tests! It's an outrage! What the hell is next? The schools supply birthing rooms for these 'mothers'.

Don't get me wrong, I 100% place the blame on the girls and parents, but the nurse and principal were the knowing adults in this situation and I want to know what they did with their knowledge. I bet if the parents were informed earlier on, the #17 would have been much less. And if the nurse or principal would have spoken to these girls like they were their own, the # would also have been much less. And for all I know, they did speak to the girls and we're not looking at 20-something pregnancies bc of that.

Trust me, most of the young people today know more about their "rights" as a minor and the law when it comes to their rights. These girls understand the privacy acts and they can cry abuse so quickly. No, I would feel my DD was stupid to encourage this to happen but I definitely would not beat her. When I think of so many worthy people waiting and wanting to adopt a baby and having to jump through hoops of red tape and testing and yet these girls go and do something so outrageously wrong it makes me mad. When we stop making excuses for these kids perhaps we can make some sensible decisions for all concerned. No I will not blame the school system but I will lay the blame where it belongs at the feet of parents and the girls themselves. Remember these young girls are just 2 steps away from being registered voters. You know the ones that will be helping to decide the future of this country. That should scare the hell out of you.

Sorry, I just thought of something else...

School officials started looking into the matter as early as October after an unusual number of girls began filing into the school clinic to find out if they were pregnant. By May, several students had returned multiple times to get pregnancy tests, and on hearing the results, "some girls seemed more upset when they weren't pregnant than when they were," Sullivan says. All it took was a few simple questions before nearly half the expecting students, none older than 16, confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together.

I can't imagine being a parent and not being informed of the fact that my child went to the nurse numerous times and was saddened by the news of NOT being pregnant. Yes, I understand the nurse has to protect those that might be beaten, but what was done???? What did that nurse and principal do? Any emergency counseling sessions once the spike in pregnancy tests? or was it just golly gee, guess I better order more tests we're running low.

and btw, I would have been a parent that beat my child --- I would have beat the stupidity right out of her. ok, I think I'm done now.

Sex-ed classes end freshman year at Gloucester, where teen parents are encouraged to take their children to a free on-site day-care center. Strollers mingle seamlessly in school hallways among cheerleaders and junior ROTC. "We're proud to help the mothers stay in school,".......Ireland, 18, gave birth her freshman year and says some of her now pregnant schoolmates regularly approached her in the hall, remarking how lucky she was to have a baby.

I don't think welcoming teen parents with open arms is the answer. I do understand wanting to help them stay in school, but how about the teen moms and dads be sent to a continuaiton school off-site. Why should teen pregnancy be rewarded? Jr high and HS girls LOVE babies and letting teen moms walk around with their babies in strollers at their same HS in not a good idea IMO. Teen motherhood will look too easy and glamourous.

Agree Tree, parents should spend just as much time teaching their sons about responsible sex as they do with girls and girls are not always victims. For some reason or other the societal "boys will be boys" thought is still alive and well. Keep it in your pants should be a motto for young men. Maybe bumper stickers would work! LOL

Many middle schools around here keep the bathrooms locked so kids aren't having sex in there. Classes are given specific times that the teacher can unlock the bathroom for the class to go. Otherwise students have to get a hall pass and go to the front office.

I've had young men in their early 20's tell me to stress to teenage DS to NOT have sex with any girl under 16. To just not even date girls under 16. Should the boy ask for id? YES! He should know the girls age before unzipping --- from her family or driver's license. Even if she is of age, he needs to use protection himself -- there are too many diseases out there to be going without a condom. One of these young men in his 20's said he will not date any girl still in high school because it's too close for comfort.

DS was recently at a girl's house at a time he should not have been. He kept saying "But we didn't DO ANYTHING". I told him that even if he didn't do "anything" with the girl, if he is caught sneaking around with her at all and she decides to tell everyone they had sex, no one in her family is going to believe HIM. Also, chances are the law won't believe him either. The word of sweet little 15 year old girl against the word of long haired 17 yr old boy who was in a place he shouldn't have been, at a time he shouldn't have been there????

I guess it won't be their parents but the taxpayers, again.

Give them daycare, give them housing, give them money for their college education once they turn eighteen. Heck who wouldn't want that, sure beats working for a living.

I say the state should take each and everyone's baby and give the babies up for adoption.
There's plenty of people who are waiting to give a baby a good home and all the attention the baby needs.

*****************I hope somebody counsels these girls on responsible child care & doesn't just assume because they knew how to get pregnant that they know how to take care of a baby---NOT! They can't just have the big belly & attention for 9 months, have the cute adorable baby and then forget about it. This will be with them for the rest of their lives. It's not a have it and leave it situation. Somebody had better INTENSLY get these girls prepared for EVERYTHING they will have to do for these babies, the tiredness and being overwhelmed they will feel and how to deal with it all ALONE for some of them. Most probably think somebody else will raise the baby or be there every step of the way. I pray for the babies especially because who knows what they will face when they come into this world with that kind of parental stupidity.

It is a sad situation when girls and guys have no dream or value system that motivates them to look at the big picture of their life. Guys have a brain and they need to use it to protect themselves just as girls do, and when they can learn to see past today, they may find the motivation to avoid risky behaviors, and see teenage pregnancy as a handicap rather than a stepping stone.

Sorry for not being more clear, purseglove. Of course both boys and girls are protected under the law. I was just referencing what I thought was pertinent to this case. And I completely agree with you...that is what I mean "I don't get"...how they could have thought it was a great idea to do this on purpose.

Would you believe they took the doors off the bathrooms at the high school here. Of course we have stalls with doors so that wasn't to bad. It did keep the smoking down but not sure about the sex.

No frenchpress, the Statutory Rape laws are there to protect teen girls and "boys" from being sexually preyed upon by adults. An adult is anyone over 18. Many of the young girls involved here refuse to give the names of their impregnator. You do not have to come from a bad environment,no Mom, no Dad,Gee I just want something to love, to be this stupid. These young girls knew exactly what they were doing.
