Well, actually, you can save a little, simply by not printing in color. The printer can be set up to only print in what is commonly called "grayscale," where colors are replaced with various shades of gray.

Thanks everyone for your explanation. I was just talking to my DH and of course he said what you are saying....I just couldn't get my mind wrapped around it. I do see it now, lol.

Maybe I was just hoping for a way to save ink.

If the result is a hard copy (something you can hold in your hand) then you are using ink. If the "copy" is stored on your PC, then you are not using ink -- that is called a scan.

Ok, Renee...maybe my brain just isn't working now, but I don't quite understand what you mean..sorry, lol.

I don't know what you mean about 'being copy, then saved to the computer....like if I print something off..that is stored in the computer...then I know it would use ink. If I would then take the paper I had printed, the put it on the copier window, it doesn't take ink...are we saying the same thing...lol...I think we are. BTW: thanks for the suggestion about the letterhead.

If for instance you are going to copy a letter with a colorful letterhead, use the color option and you'll get the letterhead in color and the body of the letter in black and white.

Now, what I do want to ask...and it may be silly, but we have just bought a new printer with scanning and copying...

Does it take ink to copy something? I wouldn't think so, but just not sure....since it just takes a 'picture' of what is being copied.

I was just thinking of the post about how we are scaling back...or saving money now, and I thought this would be a way to do it.

We don't print or copy much (but hey, the copier is really nice to have)....anyway, if you needed more than 1 copy of something that you were printing off....it would save your ink to do just 1 print, then use the copier for more of the document or whatever it is.

I've only made a copy of a black and white document...I'll have to see how about something with colors....can it be copied in color?

Ok, you can see I'm bored, lol.
