I usually send a thinking of you card...not just cancer patients...anyone w/ALS, Huntington's - any terminal illness doesn't need to be sent a perky get well card. I think you'll be able to find something. Or, you can write something personal in a blank card. Be even nicer if you live close enough to help by bringing a meal, visit with her for a short time or, if she has a care-giver, letting that person have some free time while you stay with you ill friend. If she's further away, maybe a card with a tea bag in it...there's a poem out there about having a cup of tea at the same time & thinking of each other. If you knit or crochet...you could make her a prayer shawl to let her know you've been thinking & praying around her & have made it just for her. She might find some comfort in a thoughtful gift like that.

Hallmark does carry a specific line called "Journey's" that are specific to all aspects of cancer.

Hallmark does have a CHRISTIAN lin of cards

Kathy, if you have any type of cancer institute around you, they will have cards like you are looking for. My DH was treated at the Nevada Cancer Institute, and in their boutique, they had very nice cards (he always liked getting "funny" cards...i.e. one he got was one that said on the front "I heard you haven't been yourself lately", then on the inside it said, "But that's okay--I like meeting new people." He loved those (he passed away 8 months ago). I hope this helps.

Check your local area hospital(s). I have seen cards there that really would be appropiate to cancer or any other serious illness.

I had my last radiation treatment on 11/6/2008, and created a thank you note for the radiation staff that got me started creating funny cancer cards. Chemo and radiation can go on for a while, and some humor in the middle is good medicine.

At the beginning, however, the diagnosis is a huge shock/adjustment, and humor is NOT the thing. A card of encouragement would be much better as a first contact. More and more cancer survivors are starting to write and sell their cards on-line. There are cards to congratulate cancer survivors on their cancer free anniversaries. Five years is a really big deal, but every test, with its "scanxiety," is another opportunity for friends to reach out in support.

It has been along time since I have posted on here, but have you tried www.cancer.org? that is the home page for the American Cancer Society. Another thing you can do, is if this person is close to you, or even if not, buy a luminary in their honor at your area's Relay for Life. Or go to the event and get involved. My best friends mom was recently diagnosed with BC and has not told her daughter much. I have done all I can to help get her educated so that she is ready to help her mom all she can. Good luck and I will keep your friend in my prayers.

I agree it is hard...Have to read allot to find the perfect card for the situation....I also find it hard sending a Christmas card to someone in a nursing home...It takes allot of looking to find a nice card with the perfect words for someone in a nursing home or terminal in some way...

That's probably what I'll send for right now, but seems like they carry the same "thinking of you" cards at Hallmark, etc..I've already sent her quite a few, just kind of wanted something really different....I even thought of trying to make something....

Kathy, I know what you mean. I don't go to the Hallmark card shop a lot (because the Dollar General has nice cards for a lot less), but I do like Hallmark. Hallmark has cards in the Get Well section, and they are labeled something like "Suitable for a Serious Illness".

Hi, I know this is way off the subject...but just received some really sad news about a friend that has been given news of reoccuring breast cancer and it has spread throughout her body...doesn't look promising for her and there just never seems to be any appropriate cards to send to people like this...they all say Get Well...thanks for any input.
