My Betty Crocker and Better Homes and Gardens are the newer versions and I know they are different than the old ones you all have. My mom has the old ones and I really like those ones but I really do not like mine. The recipes are different. My favorite cookbooks I have are from the local Catholic church, Presybeterian church and the local Women's club.

THis was a gift and it is my favorite cookbook. The pictures are beautiful and give a great idea of the dish you want to make. The recipes vary from simpleto more fancy. There are various ethnic foods as well.

Funny you should mention this Diana, I have been longing for this book for at least 6 months now.

This is a neat thread!

When I was growing up, my mom was really involved with the Women's group at our Catholic Church and they published a cookbook. Mom put aside a copy for me and each of my 4 sisters for after we got married. After I got married, I would call my mom to get her recipe for this or that and more often than not she would say "it's in the church cookbook under _______'s name" and sure enough it was there, I soon realized that most of our family favorites were recipes that my mom tried from the cookbook and we loved. I still make many of those recipes today.

My mom taught me how to cook and bake, so having a great arsenal of favorite recipes has been wonderful!

Currently I really enjoy the Gooseberry Patch cookbooks. They have the same "community cookbook feel" that I like and also I like the artwork and all the little decororating/gift giving ideas and household tips. Plus the fact that I am published in 4 of the cookbooks has me a bit biased!! LOL

I collect cookbooks and really do try to pull them out and try something from different ones. I probably use the Jr. League ones the most. The Joy of cooking was my cooking bible growing up. It is the one Mom used the most, and the one I received as a wedding shower gift in 1973. It is really a good basic cookbook that I still love and use. I also have the red and white checkered BH&G cookbook that has seen a lot of use too. My current favorite cookbooks are the ones by Cook's Illustrated. I love the way they describe the methods they tried before coming up with the final version. They tell why certain methods/ingredients work better than others. I have learned so much from Cook's Illustrated in the last few years. I highly recommend them to anyone that likes to cook. See if your library has any of them and see for yourself. I think you will be pleased. The recipes are terrific - not a bunch of far out gourmet recipes that you never use.

I recieved the Betty Crocker cookbook (red spiral) back in 1981 for a wedding shower gift.

I'd have to say my favorites though are all my Gooseberry Patch Books. I just love them!

I have too many 'favorite' cookbooks, but my favorite for vegetables is America's Best Vegetable Recipes from Farm Journal.

Well, I guess if I had to pick a favorite, it is going to have to be my Farm Journal Country's Country Cookbook. I absolutely love ALL of the Farm Journal cookbooks. But I think the one 1 cookbook I reach for more often than not is that one!

Thanks for starting this thread! A very interesting one that I'm gonna be keeping an eye one! Who knows! I might discover a recommendation for a cookbook that I will simply have to get to add to the collection!

I have so many... but my favorite would have to be my mom's cookbook She wrote and/or typed out family favorites many, many years ago, recipes that she collected during her 63 years of marriage. She passed away a few years ago, so it's my treasure. The 2 or 3 cookbooks I use the most are community/church group cookbooks, always a lot of tried and true, comfort food recipes! Enjoyed reading all the posts!

I used that old Cookbook site to look up and old Cookbook I got from my Mom. It is a 1959 Farm Journal Country Cookbook. It didn't have it listed. I use the Church cookbook from the church we got married in 1978. I've added alot of my favs in it. Beth
